Linux. If you are new to Linux, get Lubuntu or Linux Mint. Some people recommend Ubuntu, but it has bloatware, spyware, and a bad default desktop environment. The variants such as Lubuntu, Xubuntu, etc are best. Just go with Lubuntu or Linux Mint.

The advantage of Tor is privacy/anonymity. It's not for stuff like checking email and the like, that is linked to you anyway. It's just if you want to do stuff that you want to keep off the radar.

From doing what? Tor isn't illegal unless you're in fucking North Korea or something. Using it can get you on a watchlist in the US, but chances are you're already on one. Millions of US citizens are. Just being an anon probably puts you on one. Just know that Tor is not perfectly secure so although it's a great tool, don't go fucking admitting to murder or something just because you're behind Tor. If you intend to use Tor for the deepweb, same thing. Nothing illegal about it unless you access illegal content. As long as you follow the instructions in the pic, especially enabling NoScript, you should be fine even if you do come across illegal content. Just don't go bragging to your friend about the fact that you accidentally stumbled upon naked 5 year olds.

youre wrong, javascript is a scripting language and its NOT possible to get any more informations about you using javascript than other web languages like php (what is actually able to get your ip, but only your connected one e.g: the TOR exit node).

noscript addon is a lie to make dumb users feel save. just like firewalls and antivir software. opium for the masses. if you want to stay secure, you cant simply download software that does the job for you. you need to learn2internet, learn how javascript, java, css, html, php, your browser, proxies and all that jazz works.

>>583152324
Everything is in the pic I posted. Other than that just be smart. It's not only about using the software, it's about not being an idiot. Everything is pointless if you do all this in view of a security camera or if you tell your friend or if you use a compromised computer (i.e. a computer that cops or feds have had physical access to, or TSA if you've brought it with when flying, etc). Common sense is important. A few other things like file encryption are covered in the pic I posted but one thing I don't think is included is DBAN. If you ever need to securely wipe your hard drive so no data can be recovered, reinstalling the OS is not good enough. Use DBAN, either with the DoD 7-pass method (for pretty high security) or the 35-pass Gutman method (for very high security). Keep in mind the former will take about half a day or longer, the latter will take several days.

JavaScript is a scripting language that is executed Clientside (except Node.js, but for that the client doesn't need to have JS enabled)
PHP is a serverside parsed scripting language

In his last post he said JS can't be used to reveal someone's identity. More likely he's a fucking shill.
>>
To make some things clear:

Javascript is able to read out browser related stuff like the browser name, version, your screen settings, your installed plugins etc.

These informations can ALSO read out using php or a combination of css and simple html.

A website can fingerprint you, you cant do nothing against that, or you need to run your browser every time with another user agent, another screen resolution and changed plugin settings, uninstall system fonts and all the stuff a site can read out to identify you. the point is: you are not secure. never. and not more secure with disables javascript.

because the idea behind Tor is that while thousands of users are all shifting IPs and locations and such, adding an extra layer of static of your shit makes you stick out.

and also it allows other in on what you're doing. which may or may not be very wise.

I'm not a tech expert by any means, but I know that using a VPN or a proxy service while on tor is a really stupid mistake.

the best way to use TOR is a truecrypted laptop with a Linux based OS and nothing tying you to that MAC address or laptop.
and don't use your own WiFi.

but that is the very best you can do with Tor.
>>
>>583154040
Fonts can be disabled. Look at the fucking pic at the top of the thread. You can do it in about:config by setting gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled to false.

Also, JS can do more than fingerprint your browser, dumbass. It can REAVEL YOUR FUCKING IP ADDRESS.

How bout using a virtual computer within Linux and delete it afterwards
>>
>>583154197
Mostly true except TrueCrypt is compromised, and it never even worked for full disk encryption with Linux. Instead, use dmcrypt/LUKS. Many Linux distros have a built in option for full disk encryption that you can set up during installation. I know Lubuntu does, that's what I use.

Also, although using public internet has its advantages, there are other risks like security cameras. There are advantages and disadvantages, but in my opinion, your best option is to use your home internet, but of course connect directly to your modem with ethernet rather than using wireless, that's more secure and preferred in general, not just for Tor

>>
>>583154420
Look into TAILS. I think you'll like it. You boot from CD and it only uses RAM, not your hard drive, and it deletes memory on shutdown. And it routes all internet traffic through Tor (unless you use 'unsafe browser').

>>
>>583154961
If you have a need for it to be persistent, sure, but if you don't need that it's just another potential security risk. With strong enough encryption the risk is minor, yes, but I would be in favor of using a TAILS Live CD and then storing files on a flash drive encrypted with LUKS/dm-crypt
>>
I'm pretty sure the government puts red flags on encrypted files, is there anything available that encrypts files without them "looking" encrypted

If you use a strong algorithm (i.e. 256-bit AES) and a strong passphrase (20+ characters letters, numbers, special characters, have letters in words swapped out for other characters, etc) then it shouldn't make much difference. TAILS and some other Linux distros come with the software pre-installed to encrypt drives with LUKS/dm-crypt, that's what I recommend using. Avoid TrueCrypt and Bitlocker, both are compromised. LUKS/dm-crypt is currently the most trustworthy. I would also recommend encrypting your entire hard disk, not just specific files. Some Linux distros have the option to encrypt your hard drive during installation.

I've run into issues trying to do full disk encryption with Lubuntu because of a glitch with swap space, if you run into that just turn off swapspace during installation before setting up full disk encryption. Open a terminal emulator by right clicking the background during installation and clicking terminal emulator, then you have to enter one of these two commands (forgot which, just enter both)
sudo swapoff
sudo swapoff --all
Don't worry about that unless it gives you an error related to swap space when you try to install with encryption.

Confirmed government shill

JS is known to have vulnerabilities in it's implementation that are discovered every now and then. This has already happened with the Tor Browser Bundle at least once and has been exploited by the US Gov in connection with the Freedom Hosting bust: https://blog.torproject.org/blog/tor-security-advisory-old-tor-browser-bundles-vulnerable

Why do you think that the NoScript extension comes with the Bundle by default? Now shut the fuck up, no one here actually believes your shit
>>
>>583156504
I still think your data would be more secure without putting up red flags, anyways the government could already own quantum computers which theoretically could crack any encryption in mere seconds
>>
>>583156876
they've had quantum computers for years now, what do you think they've been using the crashed ufo's for?
>>
>>583156876
>I still think your data would be more secure without putting up red flags,
Indeed, but I think it's more important to just encrypt your entire drive. If you encrypt specific files you could hide them in obscure directories where they are unlikely to be found.
>anyways the government could already own quantum computers which theoretically could crack any encryption in mere seconds
Right now quantum computers are nowhere near being powerful enough to crack encryption or even do something as simple as processing a text document. Of course governments might have more advanced quantum computers than we realize. Quantum-proof encryption algorithms are being developed though, look into SPHINCS. I don't know anything about it, if it's in use yet or if it's trustworthy or anything, but worth looking into.
