I've tried it out and it's sitting happily next to my speakers and monitor now. No observable magnetic effect. What I see is residue of limestone, so that speaks for espresso/washing machine.

No distinguishable smell whatsoever, but *still* mildly moist or oiled.

I can't make sense of those windings. So most likely something high(er) pressure and water went thru it. Plane/microwave/speaker can be safely debunked.

As you can see, the inside is black from what was supposed to be intense heat. So there was heating involved for sure.

Well, that fits the pressure/heat profile. And I pried the sieve part open. Inside is something that could be described as rust and probably some coffee residue.

That explains what it is. Now how it got here... maybe some bum or scrap metal collector hoped for copper and then it got too heavy for him and he just dumped it into my front yard. My best explanation. But I like the idea of a nuked espresso machine. After reaching 1 gazillion Pascal, it blew up and parts of it landed here. Nice.
