Can we just come together in this thread and appreciate the reality that we can all sit on our asses in our homes; no matter where we are in the world and communicate almost instantly? You are virtually surrounded by anons from all around the world (except North Korea shrek be with them).
More so, out of roughly 1 billion possible websites, we are all big enough faggots to choose this one, right now, at this specific meaningless fucking time.
Sitting on our fucking dust speck,
clinging on to one of 400 billion stars,
in one of 100 billion galaxies (and that’s just what we can see)
In the middle of an abyss.
I fucking love you guys.
This absolutely impossible-to-imagine number that is the odds of this very moment happening. That every moment of existence has, one way or another, led to this moment.
All so that I can call you a faggot.
perfectly put you fucking faggot.
It always makes me laugh that we as a society have access to so much information, but we chose to spend our time shit posting and calling each other faggots.
How the fuck have we not destroyed ourselves yet?
>Can we just come together in this thread and appreciate the reality that we can all sit on our asses in our homes; no matter where we are in the world and communicate almost instantly?
And anonymously. No one knows who we are.
Dumping some inspirational stuff.
Because OP is a faggot, forever and always.
The stars will burn out and give birth to new stars which, in turn, will burns out as well. The Galaxies will combine and dissipate, and eventually time itself will cease to exist. And the one truth we can hold on to is that OP will always be a faggot.
Stoppin' in to say cheers, OP/Anon's.
>I think about shit like this sometimes, and it makes my problems and shit seem so insignificant, so
>thank you, and have a wonderful life, you magnificent bastards.
We can. Thanks for being here, and existing with me.
But not each other
how about actual space dump? not unnecessarily fake computer generated photos dump
This webm always makes my head spin. Like I can't even comprehend how fucking large some of these stars are.
why not both?
I know, right?
We are really all just specks of dust upon bigger dust.
>God damn, I wish I still blazed. lol
I'll just dump my Space folder. It has both.
That's what I'm talking about.
>Also, this pic for OP/Anon's who might appreciate it.
How bout some horsehead Nebula on you bitches?
most of these were taken from the NASA website and are to large to post.
Ive got plenty
"Who we are" is a fruitless question, anyway. No one human life can possibly hope to make a mark on the rest of universe if hundreds of billions have yet to. We're better off focusing on ourselves and own isolated existences than to concern ourselves with the identity of others whose identity is defined by their own perspectives in the first places.
Still, a glance, a fleeting touch of someone else's life who suffers unique trials and victories, brought to you by a common interest and desire...
one of my fav space pics ever taken
anyone have the link to that picture that was floating around a few years ago? It was something like 10 Billion pixels and was a small portion of the night sky. You could zoom way in to make the tiny tiny dots reveal themselves as whole Galaxys.
Look it up, its one of, if not the most interesting moon in our solar system.
look @ this
>Th-That was /b/eautiful, Anon.
I'm in the cold sitting outside of a burger king (they keep their wifi on) on an iPod touch that I stole from a lost and found.
I found a few dollars though, so I can expect a big mac tomorrow, if all else fails I'll pawn this iPod and buy a small helium tank, a tube and a nice trash bag to kill myself with.
Appreciate your lives anon, it could be worse.
Seeing Mars like that, from the surface, makes it seems so much more.... I don't know, real? Like its not just a rock orbiting The Sun but an actual planet. It has mountains and valleys just like Earth, albeit not as green. You could almost mistake it as a picture taken in a desert canyon here on Earth.
I love you anons of /b/, even the ones that call me a useless, basement dwelling, kissless virgin, beta faggot. I truly love all of you. Some of the rudest and smartest people are on /b/.
Sure is, /b/uddy.
>any moar like it?
I'm on it. It's trippy as fuck lookin'.
Not the one I was thinking of. It was much bigger. Thanks for the link though, It's an awesome photo. I remember reading about this one. Its a small "Empty" portion of our night sky, about a quarter the size of our full moon.
That does it for all the "real" pics I have. I leave it in your capable ands to fill my folders /b/ros.
There we are.
That small glowing speck of dust is us.
Just another speck of dust in the sky.
This is a picture from the comet which was landed on the other day, with the Eiffel tower as size reference
Brb, bathroom break. WIll post more upon return
The only depressing part is knowing we'll all be long dead before we even start to explore our own galaxy.
We will never make it in time to see Star Wars become a reality.
It depresses me to think about it anon.
I remember seeing one that was a size comparison between the Comet and Los Angeles. was pretty fucking trippy to look at.
Anyone seen the movie contact?
I feel as if its a kinda accurate portrayal of how we would react to the discovery of aliens.
At least, I wish our government would disclose and build the machine
Another good deep space picture.
Fucking Eye of Sauron.
I prefer to hope for a more Star Trek like future.
We should enjoy our short time in the sun then.
Not technically space, but cool nonetheless
Whenever life gets you down, Mrs.Brown
And things seem hard or tough
And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft
And you feel that you've had quite enough
Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour
That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned
A sun that is the source of all our power
The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour
Of the galaxy we call the 'milky way'
Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars
It's a hundred thousand light years side to side
It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light years thick
But out by us, it's just three thousand light years wide
We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point
We go 'round every two hundred million years
And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe
The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding
In all of the directions it can whizz
As fast as it can go, the speed of light, you know
Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure
How amazingly unlikely is your birth
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth
Galaxy Song - Eric Idle - Monty Python
Nah, I like life. We are living like kings compared to the majority of humanity that has ever lived.
I hope that I can go to LEO before I die.
Anyone still lurking?
Uh, the universe is almost 14 billion years old and only in the past century did we develop relativity, quantum mechanics, and leave earth's gravity.
It's interesting to be alive now, too.
Taking pictures from different worlds.
Something that a person 100 years ago couldnt even comprehend
I'm sitting in my room on /b/, watching south park, grubbin', thinking of my girl, see this thread,
Dude weird, same here except no girl
Like south park and eating and browsing /b/ at 3 am. Holy hell its late
If i remember correctly, these are mars' little moons
Gonna head to bed soon, looking for any more real pics I have. I forgot to organize real from fake space pics today.
I like to think of it this way: since everything in this realm is recycled, we will see those times are the same components of our bodys and on some level our conscious have been used since life started on earth. in a way we are reborn over and over again. This is why I try to treat people with the respect they deserve because there are no other people, there is just me. we are one and all together, forever
From this distant vantage point, the Earth might not seem of any particular interest. But for us, it's different. Consider again that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity – in all this vastness – there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves." - Carl Sagan
Easily the most humbling quote to ever be spoken
Fuck yeah, man.
>Would buy you a beer.
>Fucking accountabili/b/uddy episode?
Shit is yucks.
And for fun,
Voyager's parting shots of the solar system.
Imagine with me for a moment if you will; if we take these as deep field galaxies and say theyre roughly 10 Bn ly away, those galaxies are 5.865x10^22 miles away.
Thats like traveling to and from our sun ~ 3.15 quadrillion times
We cant even comprehend these distances
10am in germany.
woke up 12pm.
can't sleep during nght anymore.
fuck winter depression.
don't even know why i type this.
/b/ always cheers me up, and if it is just for the people who have it worse than me.
You fags keep me up.
Bitteschön, Deutscher Bruder
Hab ein Bild
Yeah man, it gets me too.
I love my spoiled fucking rotten little slobber hounds.
I miss my old doggies too.
>Truly man's best friend.
I actually watched raisins (S07E14).
It was supposed to be sad, saw an anon recommend it in a sad thread and watched it.
kinda related to losing a girl who was your world but realized I cant stay sad after 3,5 years lol.
Shit man, I've seen that before.
>I cried like a little bitch at the end.
>No fucks given.
And to think: we will never explore them in our lifetimes.
Phobos actually, had to reverse google it.
>hover over youtube link
>instantly know what it is
holy hell dude, i cant do those.
I watched it once and, after not hving cried in 2 years, that just broke me. Dogs are my weak spot, seeing them in pain and dying is just too much for me (hurr pussy whatever)
I love my dog so damn much but I never really see him while im gone at uni for months at a time, hes really old too and I have nightmares of the day my parents call and say he died.
Butters says some deep shit in that, all while being a goofball faggot.
>One of my favorite episodes.
Don't worry man, another special lady will enter your life and then the new exciting path will yet again unfold.
yeah.. but at least we get dank memes right?
good post op
i will lurk
I kek'd hard on that one.
I think im running out if not out of real pics
Just knowing we are made from stardust is incredible. Life itself is amazing. We don't appreciate it enough.
Might post a few fakes before I go to bed.
Fuck you anon. I am the biggest pussy about dogs.
I fucking love my dog, she's snuggled up to me right now. I don't have or want any kids, but my dog is going to have the best life I can give her because she always makes me feel good. I have been to the looney bin for suicide, see a shrink, get prescribed all kinds of drugs with annoying side affects. All my friends are scattered and have families of their own. But my fucking dog has been the best medicine since my sister got her for me for my depression. She makes me smile, laugh, and melts my heart every fucking day. She gets my lazy ass outside and not sit around in the dark and stew. I love my dog, she makes me feel like things aren't bad at all.
FUCK wrong pic.
I think that was my last real pic, but im not sure. my folder is a mess as you can see.
Ill start dumping fakes here for a bit
luckily i dont have class till 1pm tomorrow and its my easiest (german 4) so I can afford to stay up till 3:23
I could feel your urge for dank memes call to me through the stardust my friend.
I am here communicating to you through this glowing window contraption on a chinese moving pictographs imageboard, let us cooperate in wonderful friendship.
I also have
300 confirmed kills
in case you were wondering
I literally would do anything to live in a city like this.
I have watched this amount a million times:
Thank you anon. I appreciate it.
This collection took a while of browsing and overcoming the laziness of saving.
You might live in time to see it given how fast our tech is moving along.
I want you to keep in mind that 4 in 10 Americans believe that the world is only 10,000 years old and that only 67% percent of those poled in the UK knew that the earth revolves around the sun.
Humanity is fucking stupid. I bet that nearly half of you think Jews had something to do with the planning and execution of the attacks on the twin towers.
Still feel full of awe?
Happy to be here with you guy
Capcha: Robert , that my name truly a wonderful universe
sad to see this thread going back pages
Once this thread is over all of us anons will disappear back into anonymity, maybe one day to run into eachother again unknowingly by calling eachother fags or arguing about god knows what.
For any other of you people who are nerdy as I am with spaceships
Jesus christ anon here come the "holy shit the universe is too big" feels
I think we'll all go our ways with a more positive outlook on life in general. At least I feel that way.
Maybe temporarily, I mean life is pretty rough.
>Just knowing we are made from stardust is incredible. Life itself is amazing. We don't appreciate it enough.
posts picture of Miley's ass
>FUCK wrong pic.
It still worked out well.
I'll see you there,
Today was another shitty day of the worst three months of my life. But this thread really set me straight. I love you faggots.
Go to bed knowing you cheered up a /b/tard today.
Yup, thats pretty much what I have been thinking ever since i watched that. I try to discuss it with some of my friends, but they are all retards, only perhaps 1-2 of them (ie the intelligent ones) appreciate how fucking stupidly shit large the universe is and how insignificant we are.
This is god mode If you ever wanted any way of trying to comprehend the sheer size of our universe versus us and how little we know or ever will know.
We're all gonna make it /b/rah
That topic is the main point of debate between me and a very long time friend.
He is ultra religious and im almost not anymore and he loves to argue that humans are the center of the universe cuz "we are gods most special creation"
Got more on the way.
Hope you like em
Not nearly as serious or real; though I guess for all we know monsters like this could exist
Although gravitationally impossible, I wish I could live on a planet with this kind of view
We can. In our dreams.
Am I the last one in the thread?
>All you have to do is /b/elieve, man.
>Hope shit gets better sooner than later for you.
>It always does.
Remember pic related, all of you, my /b/retheren.
These people are all around you http://youtu.be/Unqe61wS7IM
This is why we don't have a colony on mars and have not cured cancer. You are surrounded by idiots.
Doesn't feel so special now, does it? Being human.
These are the finest minds we have to offer. http://youtu.be/dhekTRrvGrI
Trust me anon, I know.
I went to a baptist private school for kindergarten - 12th grade.
I know how they believe and teach.
Moss gathered rocks do not outshine perfect diamonds.
Another real picture, guess I did have one more
How about some sunlight glinting off of Titan's seas?
Im still here.
So anon, question. If you could do one thing that is technically and physically possible before you die, what would it be?
For me, it would be to go into outer space. How fucking amazing would it be to be in a space suit, hanging over the earth, while looking into space with no interference at all, just seeing space exactly how it is, no atmosphere or anything.
By the way, if you are absolutely blown away by the beauty of space, I absolutely recommend SpaceEngine.
You will be blown away
Imagine a 3D vision of all these galaxy pics to this
I think we’re living in a virtual reality.
Remember that time where you almost died? I think you probably did in one version of the game, however the one we continue in, we all somehow survive.
Money is like power-ups. You do stuff and get the ability to go to a new level – a holiday / place you’ve never been to before, etc.
The religion stuff is just back story. The guy you play in Doom, COD, Dark Forces, whatever looks human. A programmer made the character in his own image. Probably took him a week to get his code together. (I guess if we are in a virtual world, the ‘real’ world has computers far more powerful than the ones we use (or think we use), so time to make a game would be far easier.
Go into space, go to the moon (we did it once, we can do it again), have sex (lmao)
no but seriously if I could just go to the moon since its possible ( im not sure a manned mission to mars is even possible yet because life support for that long is crazy)
>we are all big enough faggots to choose this one, right now, at this specific meaningless fucking time.
well most of us are lazy retards who aren't interested in learning.
nothing to celebrate.
Fuck I want off this planet. I want to be in space exploring different planets and galaxies, but I never will.
My girlfriend is at a Baptist college. Her old testament feather thinks Jews hide yeast for kids to find at the end of the passover seder. He taught this in class. He also claimed that Jess pronounce the name of god as yahway. That they pronounce the name of god.... He thinks all Levite's are Cohen. This shit was on her test. For fucks sake, they don't even know what's in their bible.
>that's fucking cool as hell
This is similar to what I imagine Heaven would be like.
Just roaming around the universe.
Like a spot? Stick around a few million years.
With of course the bonus of fucking and making new spirits/souls.
Lot's of Angel Whiskey.
At least we can do it virtually as I said in>>580207070
but yeah, I have literally been depressed before about that fact.
Honestly, theres no feeling (to me at least) like going out, especially with a gf, and just starting into a super dark night sky and just seeing tens of thousands of stars, some of which may have life just like us
I was always taught 6k year old earth, 6 days of creation, evolution is satans tool yadda yadda.
I swear, I mean my little brother is there in 10th grade now and I looked at my old science book (he coincidentally was given the one I had randomly) and it states "factually" that the big bang is wrong and that the universe is 6k years old and dinosaurs co-existed with men and such
image limit reached anons, I might stay untul 4 am then I gotta head to bed. Having too good of a time talking
God I can still remember the first time I really saw the night sky. Cub scout camp, in the middle of the field the sky so bright with stars we didn't need lights. The milky way a Great stripe across the sky. Absolutely fucking beautiful. I sat for about 2 hours just staring.
I only allow myself to be a dick in trivial threads like "which is better" , music, or movie threads. Serious discussions I remain civil. When talking about more serious issues, being a troll just shows your ignorance IMO.
It is amazing I agree.
I live in a busy university city so some nights I drive out to the country about 10 miles away (rural missouri is everywhere in this state) and just sit there and just realize how small I am.
Its pretty humbling.
i do enjoy my life, and you all anon faggot assholes.
Yesterday night, was checking the site before sleep, and bam, lost it hard in a thread.
Was nice, fuck you all.
Yes it would, didnt think about that.
Also the energy required for it to move would be unimaginable.
Also it could only move as fast as c, so if it were longer than 186000 miles, it would be interesting to see how it moves
Yeah, the moon would be pretty damn cool. Mars would be better, but to be honest I cant see that happening in our lifetime, not while governments are off spending all the monies on war and other pointless things.
The pics from Voyager are cool, pretty crazy to think that in 2025 it will stop operating and just float into outer space forever.... poor thing, so lonely :-(
meant to reply
damn im so tired cant even reply right. lol
maybe half, though some fakes are so good you could think theyre real for instance
I'm going to bed now. Thank you for your glorious dump.
>Thread of the day, by far.
Until next time, /b/.
Until next time.
I hope someone archives this shit.
I am also going to bed.
Have a good night and good Nov 19th anons, for whatever that means to you from a random anon.
One of the best threads I have ever been in on this godforsaken website
The entire point of the thread is too realise that it doesnt matter what humans think or believe. Realize how fucking small and insignificant it all is to get so worked up over shit. You couldn't even let it go for 5 minutes, stupid people exist; everybody is born into a different perspective of consciousness. Let it go for just a little bit, because you are just another one of those persepctives.
FUCK that is a cool picture
Man I love looking up at the stars, it's why I love night so much. I could stare up at the sky for hours and just wonder about all the different crazy shit out there, the possibility of life too. It's just mind-boggling and amazing to me that all those lights in the sky have planets surrounding them each unique in their own way. Our knowledge of space is so pathetically small compared to what is out there. If we start colonizing other planets I'll be the first to sign up.
I’m in the UK. Usually the sky here is orange thanks to the glow of street lights.
It was the middle of the night and I was driving home over the Pennine Hills (in the middle of nowhere, so no light pollution). I had to stop the car to get out and look at the sky - it was so full of stars you I couldn’t make out any constellations. (I’m not great at them, but I can easily pick out Orion, Cassiopeia, The Big Dipper, use that to find the North Star, etc.)
I’ve never seen anything like it before or since. It was like looking into a nebula.
I know right???
In fact, most of us should be around when New Horizons drops into outer space:
I wish I could give like a virtual brohug.
Saved and will read again if I'm feeling down.
This thread gave me a fucking life boost.
Sometimes I don't want to exist. But then I think that if I never existed then I would never want to not exist in which I would then exist only to want to not exist.
I love all of you anons.
Gotta say, it's a nice sorta change from the ocean of dicks, r8 my gf, and le may may banana ylyl threads.
Glad to have chilled with y'all this fine day.
I'm gonna hug my dog, call my girl, and sleep the sleep of the just.
>/b/e well, guys.
You don't seem to understand. Yes we are insignificant, but the little we know shouldn't fill you full of awe and wonder. It's 2014. We continue to wreck this planet like a college football team going at a passed out drunk girl during spring break in mexico. You're surrounded by idiots. True and honest idiots. They dont just have another perspective, they are willfully ignorant. When in order to save humanity it's going to take future Terra forming on earth I'm not particularly concerned with the cosmos.
This thread, and the thought I've had provoked from it has made me happier than I've been all week. Recently, I crashed my car, general life fuckery ensued, and my depression came back. I'd like to thank everyone here. Somehow, in more than a small way, I feel more whole. I guess it helped me put some things in perspective. We're all going to be okay, you know?
I dont think money on war is totally pointless.
Lots of huge discoveries have come from war and we maybe wouldnt be anywhere near what we know now.
I listened to a good podcast with Brian Cox and some other randomers about wether science needs war.
Its more of an entertainment show but the points raised are still valid.
Link any uk fags
>Gotta say, it's a nice sorta change from the ocean of dicks, r8 my gf, and le may may banana ylyl threads.
We've had a few of these on /b/ before. They're rare but they count when they appear.
Sleep well /b/rother. When you wake up, Carpe Diem!
>I'd like to thank everyone here. Somehow, in more than a small way, I feel more whole. I guess it helped me put some things in perspective. We're all going to be okay, you know?
Suddenly all those little troubles don't seem so big.
He was an excellent speaker, talented at sparking the imagination and inspiring awe and wonder in terms that anyone could understand.
There's a good reason why he's still remembered as one of the greatest popularizers of Science.
I still enjoy playing through the entire original Cosmos series just as background noise now and then, and for similar reasons I like listening to some old Feynman lectures and videos.
Yeah, the original Cosmos is a regular pass time for me.. The science may be outdated in parts, but it was an incredible series.
Carl left too soon
Are you familiar with Richard Feynman? He was also a fantastic fellow and a great speaker, though a lot more self amused and, ah, eccentric.
If you like Sagan, you'd like Feynman, I think, though he's more physics and astronomy.
make sure to do it in the bad part of town
no point in being too careful in this black void
*touches balls while picturing you getting stabbed to death and having everyone get on with their equally meaningless moments without even being aware of your pathetic stuggle to hold onto a world that could easily get by without you*
TFW alien contact is incredibly unlikely due to the distance and laws of physics including all currently accepted models of quantum, including ones which incorporate extra dimensional space and even highly improbable but popular multiverse and string theories. You can't communicate across such great distances in a timely manner, and even if we could its making the huge assumption that their technology took a similar path to our own. That they could receive the message or we for that matter. Let alone understand it.
meh we will have proof of other intelligent life in our lifetime. but you are right the process of communication will be much more difficult because of the limited speed of light.
don't kill yourself anon
I mean we are all going to die
why put so much effort into it
if I were you I would just buy some whisky and chill until cruel unfeeling fate takes my final breath and I fade into nothing... forgotten
wish i could help u out anon, i'd buy you a sandwich and split a bottle a jack with you while u crash on my couch. hang in there, life can be hella sweet.
What ship is the most powerful there? I'm leaning towards the dalek saucer. I don' think there is anything else there that could take it, but its hard to see all of them.
Nigga don't know about EVE
If Concord frigates and cruisers are in that mix, they fucking win every time
Do they have the power to 1 shot the entire universe, travel through time, to different dimensions, survive being erased from time and tank the destruction of an entire multiverse?
cause if they can, I might start playing eve
Mate, it's Concord
They send Goonswarm a runnin, they Concordukken the largest, most expensive ships in the game for something as small as opening somebody elses cargo container.
They're the baddest space police in the motherfucking cosmos and are the soul reason I hide away from them in null security space.
Daleks would tremble
