I've only ever had one personal interaction with the police because I'm a law-abiding citizen.

A couple years ago I was in downtown waiting for the light rail. Dude asks for directions, I give him some, he thanks me by offering me illegal drugs. I decline but another passing bystander trades him some for a train ticket. I was appalled that they were so open about it so I moved to another part of the platform and got on the train when it came. Lo-and-behold the original guy gets on the train, sees me, and sits down next to me. He proceeds to tell me he's on the run from the law in Idaho, he jumped out a window of an illegal dispensary to avoid arrest, stole a car, and drove here, getting into town the night before. Said he was on his way to burn the car. He got off the train, I waited two stops, then got off and called 911. Police sent a guy out to talk to me, I related everything and showed him the picture I took of the crook, and then he took off. Several cop cars cruised through the area as I waited for the next train.

I never got called to testify so I assume they never found him or they didn't believe my story.

The cops were being incredibly fair in the beginning and it wasn't until the students were being huge dicks that they started spraying. I'm not defending the cop, but students had some blame too. Everyone was at fault.

To contest a law, you have to go through the court system. That takes money most people don't have. That is why the rich get to break laws and the poor get to be pushed around by them.
This stuff does take time. And all too many people don't want to take the time to see it from many angles and be objective about the long term implications of those decisions. I can understand the need to draw a gun or a weapon of some kind to stop someone shooting at you, but I cannot in good concience understand why a cop would draw his weapon on someone without an equally deadly force.

There is a reason why people suicide by cop. It is easy to make a cop freak out and kill them.
What I think is needed are some better defensive tactics. Tools that help a cop defend himself while still making sure people calm down.
