God tier movie thread, points if nobody's heard of it
Inb4 mr.nobody, the master, or anything by lars von trier
Good choice OP
Herzog is sometimes hard to watch
Man the little girl in that movie was sort of a dumb bitch. I guess the main character should have checked his privileges at the kindergarten door.
i'm not cinephil (if that's how ppl says in english)
appreciated this movie because of watching Captain Philip one month before it, and Kapringen blows ass compared to tom hanks shit
everyone should watch this movie in a dark room with full attention
This was good. Waking Life was also great use of same film technique.
Pan's Labyrinth, No Country for Old Men were my best mainstream releases lately
I love No Country For Old Men.
-Gangs Of New York
-There Will Be Blood
-Lords Of Salem
This. Best gangster movie I've seen in a long time.
I saw Koyaanisqatsi in an old school theater with the the Philip Glass Ensemble performing the sound track. Simply incredible.
There are so many good movies out there. Some of my favorite danish movies is:
Pusher 1,2 and 3
All by Nicolas Refn
If you guys havent watched any of these yet i would really recommend it :)
pic related (bleeder)
The original, not the bullshit American abortion
This movie is a world for me.

The first Movie by Christopher Nolan. Filmed on a budget of $6,000
Very good movie.
"Triad Election" and "Election 2" are great movies that I bet most people don't know of since they were produced in China.
"Tyrannosaur" is a movie that will leave you sad for days.
Anything by Guy Richie is pretty damn good.
"13 Assassins" is very engrossing, great villian
"A Prophet" is a very trippy movie but pretty unforgettable
That is all I can think of off the top of my head
"Gomorrah" is a really intense film about the Mafia, none of the glamour and all of the realism while still being entertaining
"Misery" was great but most people know of it, "The Machinist" too
"King of Devils Island" was something great
"Hunger" has a really amazing opening scene, you won't forget it
> The Tunnel
First horror movie to give me the creeps since I saw REC.
Any horror fans got any suggestions as to what I should watch next? (inb4 Exorcist, Shining etc)
If you like documentaries, "The Act of Killing" is probably the best idea and execution of a documentary you will see in you lifetime. Getting Indonesian who engaged in state sponsored murders to reenact their crimes in movie form, only to cause that reenactment to reflect on their deeds IRL is pure genius. Was really some documentary.
"The lives of Others" is a movie that I haven't seen yet but looks to be really great
This thread made me realize I have watched some really good films so I'm just trying to share.
In terms of horror movies, I would reccomend a 2007 movie called the signal. It's divided into three parts with three different directors, and each take is a little different.
Lords of Salem wasn't that good, if you didn't read the book before.
Hard to Understand IMO
original is much better imo, the actors fit the situation more
also part 1 surely
interesting, but definitely not god-tier. Could've used a rewrite.
Is a much more interesting idea than it is an interesting film. By that I mean so much of what is interesting about the plot is not communicated very well by the film itself.
it looks painful to be underage
I see. I don't have that kind of viewing range, hopefully someday i'll get around to watching movies made before 1990.
(2) Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (already mentioned in thread but was really great)
(3)The Fantastic Mr. Fox is worth watching, despite being a cartoon with A list celebs playing the parts
(4) The Last King of Scotland has superb acting. And since i have mentioned Forest Whitaker, I should mention his films "Panic Room" and "Ghost Dog". Great in both
simply brilliant. anyone who knows anything about russian cinema knows how great this film is
I'm not a hipster, I just don't want to start a mainstream movie circlejerk where everybody just sits around and agrees on one movie because they've all seen it.
Upstream Color was better
>I don't have that kind of viewing range, hopefully someday i'll get around to watching movies made before 1990
Well in that case you may enjoy some on the list I posted.
> Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (already mentioned in thread but was really great)
If you liked the movie, be sure to check out the old (1979) miniseries with Alec Guinness, I liked that a lot more than the movie. In case you liked it also check out the "sequel" Smiley's People (1982).
I'd give honorable mentions to:
(1) House of Sand and Fog
(2) Whiplash (2014)
(3) Moon [Really enjoyed this movie]
one of the all time classics in these threads
still god tier
This reminds me of Rounders and American History X too, since both have Ed Norton in them.
Should mention "The Prestige" is powerful watch as well
true, but that doesn't mean that there aren't people who haven't watched it yet
also it's not only about recommendations here imo
and one more classic everyone should know
I liked it
this isn't a "list the top 50 on any list ever"
OP is probably looking for movies everyone and their mother haven't seen.
Saying LOTR doesn't add anything. Do you think OP has never heard of it before?
this movie was so edgy. i liked it
1st i dont care if anyone has ever heard of it, this thread'S about god tier movies
2nd i know enough people which at least havent WATCHED lotr, so i'll post it anyway
My favorite b movie ever
I agree that this is a troll post. The movie, while not a bad one, lacks much beyond the classic cliches of modern big budget blockbusters. What most consider to be a god tier movie must contain something other than large scale action sequences that makes it stand out.
can you say that in any more creepy a manner
equilibrium is a great movie though
I didn't expect this to be any good but holy shit it was great
Upstream Color is a pseudo artistic overrated piece of crap its what americans think arthouse movies should be like. Pseudo deep pseudo meaningful.
Movie had me hooked till the end
This is the only movie in 30 years that I have stood up and walked out of the theater, and if you like it, I am sorry to say that you will be pushing a mop for the rest of your life.
Mystic River too
THE KILLING ROOM
i see it now
Fuck you Gaylord. American version sucked ass, as with all American releases of Asian cinema.
The ring, ju-on, and dark water are more examples
Or greatest documentary?
How has no one mentioned Irreversible
foreign movie though
I saw the commercials for it, never had any desire to see it. The few people I know that saw it both hated that I ruined the ending and wanted to know how I knew it before it ever even came out.
"irreversible" got a lot of hype because of the controversial rape scene and some ultra violence, but those 2 things aside it was honestly a pretty bad film
not god tier but I really liked this movie and its not really mainstream
