>>
You should have gone for GTX 970. And your SSD is crap.
>>
self bump . thoughts anyone?
>>
Actually putting together a build for myself right now.

If it's just for gaming, you don't need the I7. Get an i5-4690K. Extremely comparable benchmarks (within a few FPS) and hundred(s) cheaper. Take the extra money and buy a 970 for a GPU.
>>
>>573287337

That's exactly what I built today. Mini ITX. GTX 970 in the mail though.
>>
>>573287839

sweeet thanks for the advice. other than that. its a good build for gaming. for such games as CIV5 rome total war, skyrim kind of games and Sims right?
>>
>>573286470
You'll want to add a standard hard drive in if you want to install games, especially with this uncompressed audio bullshit developers are starting.
>>
>>573287839
howd you go fitting that card into an itx case? I had troubles with a mATX thermaltake a30 case and a fairly longish card
>>
Take back the graphics card and grab a r9 290 for $299 in canada or 269 in the states its worth the upgrade. The r9 280x is not based on the GNC 1.2 and wont have good compatability in the future.
>>
>>573288453
thank you dude
>>
>>573286470
Go with a standard hard drive. Upgrade to a SSD later. Also if you are looking to shave some bucks off the top, go for ivy and sandy bridge architecture. With a dedicated GPU and a K version CPU you will not loose much. Very few games exceed what my old 3770k can do. Gigabytes makes a solid mobo, but try to get a Nvidia card. They are in all the top systems. Don't skimp on GPU, but your okay cutting out the top end CPU's. For hard drives a WD is amazing, but for SSD's, try out a Samsung if you want one. 1TB minimum is kinda the basis, also, believe it or not, the stock fan will keep your CPU running healthy. Its a bit louder, but it will do it fine. Good ram too. Also, while not a top pick, the Tachyon PSU from Rosewill is backed by a 5 year warranty and is 80 plus platinum.
>>
>>573286470
>had a friend design it

There's your problem, faggot.
>>
>>573289120

i dont know shit about computers faggot
>>
I have an ASUS R9 290 and I am super happy with it, but the price is a little off putting in the states. Somewhere around 330-450.
>>
>>573289295

Then why are you trying to build one? This shit is for tech savvy people only. Just go buy your fucking Dell and be done with it.
>>
IGNORE THAT GUY!
who ever tells you to go with a standard drive first really doesn't see the benefit of an ssd. The price on those SSDs is about 30 bucks more then a decent HDD and its worth it.

Use less space. use media streaming service and 256gb will be plenty for you.

the cooler should be swapped to a h100i if you can afford it. if not, look for a good deal on the noctua coolers. the deep silence really doesnt offer a huge benifit over a Hyper 212 from coolermaster with a decent fan upgrade. you can usually find 4 packs of cougar fans for around 20 bucks and they are decent fans.

Also look into Z87 motherboards with support for haswell refresh chips. M.2 isnt really a worth while benefit in my honest opinion. Raid 1 is still out performing M.2 atm.
>>
>>573289518

haha okay kid
>>
where do you live?
>>
>>573289630
I have a SSD and a hard drive but the bonus you get from the space is worth it. SSD's are insanely expensive per gig compared to a HD. I get the difference. I own both for reason. SSD's are faster I agree. But HD's are far less prone to failure than they used to be and hold far more data per dollar.
>>
Just read from forums faggot
>>
>>573289912
for what most people need now adays a hdd is overkill. i can get by with only 240gb of storage. i use streaming service for media and the only things i store are games. i play around 10 games at a time which fit on around 160gb no problem.
>>
>>573289630
>who ever tells you to go with a standard drive first really doesn't see the benefit of an ssd.

An SSD is certainly a benefit, and I use one. But an SSD is not what you need for gaming, not with games approaching 20GB+ for "next gen." I'd say go with both, but a standard drive first if a choice has to be made.

I love my SSD and all, but the price difference is too great. My 1TB standard was 60$, compared to 135$ for my 250GB SSD.
>>
>>573286470
>Nanoxia Deep Silence 1
Why spend 120 bucks on a case?

Rosewill Challenger-U3 is what I use, it's currently 53 bucks on amazon.
>>
>>573290128
Well I have put all of my games onto a Samsung 840 that i play daily, but as this guys first build, he will probably wind up using this more for multimedia with mild gaming. Thats what almost everyone's first build turns into. Also, games are progressively getting larger, and unless you use steam exclusively, then you will probably need the extra space. I always have a WD black in my builds. Also, I do find the stock intel fans to work well if your not looking into overclocking... and usually I overclock GPU's far before I overclock my CPU's.
>>
>>573290432
Rosewill cases have kinda faltered in quality in the past while. I have my build in a Thor V2 and for case price, its amazing, but the build quality and parts they use are kinda shotty to say the least. NZXT has been my go to for a while now, and while they are pricey, the quality is amazing on them. Also, coolermaster ftw.
>>
>>573286470
To be honest the CPU should probably be an i5-4690k, which would give you another $100 towards an exceedingly more powerful GTX 970 of any make. The R9 280x pales in comparison, and the price vs the GTX just doesn't justify spending money on it.

Also I see you have an SSD (solid choice, they're reliable), but what's the hard drive you have in there?

Good choice on the case and fans, should be nice and silent.

I don't know enough about the monitor but 1440p is amazing IF your GPU can run it. I would expect to see some fprs drops in high quality or demanding games.
>>
>>573289743

I guarantee I'm both older and have built more computers than you. Fucking with this stuff when you don't know shit is a good way to get involved in a money pit.
>>
>>573291165

k
>>
>>573290730
What kind of issue would you expect to run into? I've had it for 3 years now, been moved about twice a year(to and from university) and it's held up just fine, doesn't flex or bend on me or anything like.
>>
If you want some real advice, see how close a Frys is to you. I live in DFW and there are several. Or a Microcenter. Since you're doing this without any background, you don't want to use Newegg or Tiger Direct because you're probably gonna be returning a lot of shit. Frys has a no questions asked policy. Plus they have a massive selection of parts.
>>
>>573286470 if you follow this build and the monitor linked you will not be disapointed

The Challenger is pretty nice for a "cheap" case. My only complaints are that there's almost no room to route cables and that it comes with a shitty blue LED fan. You have to get creative with the cable routing if you aren't using a modular PSU.

Mine has a handful squeezed behind the motherboard tray, a few running parallel up the front panel, and the rest shoved under the hard drives. And swapping out the front LED fan is a must.

>>573291165
How the fuck is he supposed to learn then? I don't know about you, but I learned it by fucking with stuff when I didn't know shit, and I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only 12 year old ripping PCs apart and building new PCs out of the parts.
>>
>>573291285
Well with the few rosewill cases I have dealt with, i felt the quality to be shotty. My current Thor V2 has a cheap frount panel where the USB 3.0 has already given out, the audo jack on it is tripe, and the LED's in the case failed after 3 months. Checked the Mobo in a NZXT case I had for a different build and the Mobo was fine. The Hard drive trays are kinda cheap, and the tool less bays, the lock piece is already busted. Its great for the price, and the rigidity is pretty good, but the plastic parts and their work they did on it is just bunk.
>>
>>573289295
You're a fucking idiot, you are not in the right here. Don't act like a cunty little tweenie, acknowledge that you've blown a lot of money because of your foresight.

You gave some guy who you thought had experience in PC building and said "here's my budget - tell me what to do." Quelle surprise when he makes an unbalanced and needlessly expensive build.

You SHOULD have asked for the final build and posted it around on 4chan and reddit's /r/buildapc (inb4 reddit, when you're spending thousands of dollars suck it up and get a broad selection of advice) as well as any resident tech forums like linustechtips or tomshardware. This shit ain't hard you fucking idiot.
That way you would have been able to identify any issues early on and optimise your build (quite substantially in terms of the GPU and CPU).
>>
>>573291651
>cheap case

Cheap cases are fine, I just wouldn't go with an all plastic one, for thermal and efi reasons.

>learn
I agree, but he doesn't seem to be here to learn. He got the build from a friend, and he's asking us to tweak the design. Which I don't mind helping with, but he's never gonna learn shit that way. My impression is that he is unwilling to learn anything.
>>
>>573291751
really the only thing wrong with this build is the i7 being a bit overkill and the r9 280x. a 290 at todays prices would do him great at 1440p. I would know i have one and a 1440p monitor.
>>

Get. Gtx 970 a smaller power supply 500 min 650 max drop the i-7 go for the best i-5 and either go with a noctua NHD-15 or a good AIO liquid cooler now you can upgrade the ram and hard drive space oh also you'll have a much more powerful computer you're welcime

first build.

I completely agree. R90 or GTX 970 would do him well. However, they're also the most expensive components and the ones his friend has fucked up on. Tweaking them around a bit would allow him to reallocate money.

>>
>>573292115

i7 is overkill. What I usually do is price several CPUs that are what I need, and try to find the "sweet spot" in the pricing scheme that will give me the most bang for the buck. For now that's probably somewhere around a slower i5.

And buy the best, fastest matched set of RAM you can find.
>>
>>573286470
I hope that's not yours. Too much positive airflow. You want it near equal. Nice choice on the Noctuas at the bottom.

You've got great everything, but the video card is weak. Go for the 970; better gflops, efficiency, and it's goddamn brand spanking new. Plus nVidia is great with drivers.

Source: I sell this shit for a living and manage a major store most of you fags probably shop at.

Basically what >>573292228 said. Only the front panel is plastic. Does anyone even make 100% plastic cases?

>I agree
Yeah, absolutely. Asking about this stuff beforehand would definitely have been a better route for him. Fixing it afterwards shouldn't even happen.
>>
>>573286470
You do not need an i7. get an i5 4670k instead.

1tb HDD is about 70-80 bucks and will last you pretty much forever (until you are going to make another computer ((4-5 years down the road)) a ssd of the same price won't last a month sssd's are a "luxury" item and you always want to have enough storage space to do whatever yo need to do in the future so an HDD is a must however a 250-250 GB ssd is only about $100 and well worth the price but it should never be either ssd or HDD it should be HDD and then ssd

I agree that Nanoxia case is sexy, but you don't need something that big and expensive lol. For your build, you don't need that much juice coming out of your PSU. SAPPHIRE has bad cooling configurations, go with EVGA or ASUS. Get a gtx 970. If you're just gaming, an i5 will do (my 2500k still kicks ass). Just get a 1tb HDD and 100gb SSD (preferably Samsung or ADATA).
