What books, essays, or articles have you read that have most influenced and informed your ideology? What are the most important books that everyone should read before they die?

Everyone should read it. It's such a fun mental exercise about people uniting for common goal
>>559246535
orwells 1984
>>559246925
I would recommend people to read it a few times to let it really sink in
On the Genealogy of Morals - Friedrich Nietzsche
>inb4 someone calls me an edgy teen
I did read it back when I was an edgy teen, but still, this fucker makes some good points.

You should educate on every possible field. This is the only to understand the "truth" and not only parts of it. Every little thing I learn, i understand as a tiny piece of a huge puzzle. Its a blind thing to only learn about biology for example. To understand lets say the nature of humans and the world, its necessary to put together the knowledge of various different fields.
Not his most well renowned, but my personal favorite. The prspectives on war and alien life are neat as is the hilarity of the mortal perspective. It's like he took the idea for Slaughterhouse Five and expanded it to science fiction while propping a lot of acid.

those books are good for nothing except intellectual masturbation.
hurrr they help you become a better critical thinker in various situations
fuck off with the shitty excuses
>>559247323
Fine point, but do you have any such interdisciplinary books to recommend?
mein kampf
>>559247723
you learn a lot better by doing, dont listen to these 4chan faggots infact dont listen to me either
>>559247723
If you really want some formative reading, take a look through literature that's shaped the world, things like the communist manifesto, mein kampf, as well as holy books of all faiths. The broadening of your understanding of the human intellect will come naturally reading these.
You will also learn that no modern practitioners of religion understand their religions, or philosophies for that matter. They just think whatever they want or what they're told to and slap a label on themselves.

It's not exactly 'interdisciplinary', or indeed interdisciplinary at all, but I found "Gödel, Escher, Bach", by Douglas Hofstadter, to provide a very deep insight on the nature of truth, perception, language and logic, which I'd say is a pretty decent basis.
I've read this and you have to take some parts with a pinch of salt, but it's fascinating how much willpower could a person accumulate.
>>559247468
Agree for the most part.
>>559248425
On this point, I find it amazing how many people try to make sense of the world with diverse political or philosophical ideologies without having the slightest grasp of logic.
>>559248425
I had that book on my reading list for a while. If Im not mistaken he has a new book, an "upgraded" version of that book. Dont know which to read first
The SAS Survival Handbook

Minna Unchi by Tar? Gomi
Changed my life. You need to read it more than once to really get it but it's worth it.
>>559246535
My girlfriend bought me a copy of that book (pic related) while she was in Ireland. Would you honestly recommend reading it?
>>559248425
This. Fucking this. Very clever, entertaining and educational. I'm about 500 pages in right now. Don't want to finish it, don't want the experience to end.
Nietzsche's Thus Spake Zarathustra.
sun tzu's art of war
i can hardly remember anything, but it's a pretty fun read

The new book is a collaboration with a french psychologist (Sander), published in french and english at the same time.
It's about Analogy, and is almost as long as GEB.
I started with that one, and went on with GEB.
Both of them are genius.
>>559248938
I liked it, although it does get repetitive at times. It's basically a list of experiments that prove how irrationally people act, even when they think they're making logical choices.
>>559246535
Is this pretentious enough for me to be in the book club of /b?
I bet you faggots read the same book on the way to work for a year.

Marcus isn't edge material. Something like Ayn Rand would be edgy, Markie Mark here just advocates doing the most good and living your life to the fullest potential you possibly can (with the two commonly conflating).
Dude wrote it as a self help book while dealing with some turbulent shit during the Empire.
