I use Windows on a custom made PC, almost everything is compatible with Windows, especially on the gaming side of things. It seems the people who always brag about Linux are wannabe coders, script kiddies at best. The people who use Linux to it's full extent(an OS geared towards developers) and know what their doing I respect, not the ones who brag about their freshly installed copy because it's cool to be part of a minority.

Here it is, OP
I have linux installed as my first boot priority, if I am getting on to play vidja I just scroll down to Windows. Linux is a great OS, astounding free applications for every utility or entertainment need imaginable, everything is open-source, but many a time I have set up a game or windows app with wine and watch it run crappily or not run at all. If I am doing anything but playing vidja, I get on linux, but usually I am playing vidja so always on Windows. I never have a machine without linux installed in case of issues, and even install it on a 5-10gb partition on every computer I do maintenance on at work, for assisting them in the future. It is by far superior to Windows, but the compatibility with Windows programs (mostly vidja) and the clumsy feel of wine is the big issue for most.

>>
The only thing I ever use wine for is to handle the silverlight plugin so I can watch Netflix on Linux. There's a package for it, to boot, so you don't actually have to interact with wine at all. Why is everyone trying to use wine for shit? You could just take the time to figure out wtf you're doing and then not rely on Windows programs. Anything else, just dual boot. I have a separate Windows partition for the odd time that I get an inkling to play a game and I probably boot to it less than once a month on average as everything else is handled by Linux with the added bonus that most software is easily findable in a repository for whatever distro you're using.

Because no-life faggots like OP make it into a religion.

Linux as a whole, is bad. It offers no substantial benefits beyond Windows, and it's harder to get programs to work. The repository system is fucking retarded. The entire argument for using it is based on heady idealism which doesn't translate to the real world. If you use it and make a point of being known to use it, you are naive or maladjusted.

"Lunix has virtually no support. The best you'll get are forums with up to 3 Lunix "experts" who will just tell you to do 1 of 4 things: Reinstall, enter several lines of useless commands that probably won't do what could easily be done through the package manager, use a shitty alternative to some already shitty software, or nothing(that's right). And that's if you're lucky."

In the figure to the left, you see me install it, and then unmount the partition, then remount it. If Windows actually supported an ext3 driver, do you think it would install this fast and effortlessly? If you used a software manager do you think that after waiting for it to open, then you to do the search, then click on "install", you'd have it installed quicker than on the CLI?

Driver problems and because I can't play all of my steam games. I've used Lubuntu before on an old laptop and it was okay, massive learning curve for some things though

I love linux, but since i'm a mega gamer,
>MFW always need windows

I have my second drive as permanent linux mint,
I'm not spending 5 hours++ to make profiles for each individual game just to get it to work.

What WINEHQ really needs is a function that "Tries everything" Similar to the function of automatic when pressing the button on a brand new universal remote, it just "Tries every option available, you just press some combination to note that it's working.

Shit that's allegedly gold doesn't work. :(

So why even bother arguing with me? You already know that it is better for you, and more importantly you know that you're one of very few. Like a bunch of die hard obscure music fans telling everyone their music that no one else listens to is superior.

>If you don't know what you are doing, then the GUI is quicker. If you do though, it is not. That is really the whole CLI v GUI debate in a nutshell.
>I'd never recommend grandma fire up the 'ol terminal. Just because I said it was quicker, doesn't mean I think it is easier.
You seem to think convenience = speed which I already said is not even part of the argument. For me, convenience is an escalator next to stairs. Almost everyone will take the escalator

I don't know, I used to but after four years using Linux (mostly Gentoo and Crunchbang) I decided to come back to Windows, Linux is very nice tough, and I still have an old notebook with Crunchbang linux.

I super hate windows..... HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT...

I would be full time linux if it wasn't for the fact of gaming. :'(
>>
>>556257930
Because I can use windows without having to constantly google console commands. Seriously, what kind of fucking modern OS requires console so much? It's retarded.
>>
>>556287803
Linux is better.... Ok, imagine this... Giving tech support over the phone

Open up console type in Internet Finger Console Open Nine Figure Internet Gamble

Now, windows. Click this (i don't see it), OMG IT's RIGHT FUCKING THERE YOU RETARD.
It's right there to the right, click that, click this, click that... Hand holding over the phone is fucking retarded for windows... If not impossible

Oh, your in linux that's fucking awesome!
Type in these 2 commands, I'm going to go get some more to drink. Have a nice day.

Here, by the way sudo apt-get install skype
Done... No having to hand hold them getting to the website, and good luck with them finding the download buttong. Oh, but they managed to click the first ad link so now you have to clear malware off the machine

please excuse all the whining cunts and fanboys (they should all fuck off to /pol/ ), but does anyone have valid and helpful links to information for getting games like skyrim and just cause 2 work on say mint 15 or have suggestions for alternatives?

>So why even bother arguing with me?
Because you asked why people use the terminal when they can do it in GUI. I answered that question for you. I dunno, maybe I am missing your point after all, because now I'm just confused.
>>
>>556288623

Goto winehq and then see if skyrim is supported, and what "Workarounds" you have to do to get it working... Total time: 5 hours or more.

I love linux, just gaming is the main issue right now. but out of everything though they've come pretty far. :) #soon lol

give me 100% no bs drivers.
>>
>>556288447
Even what you say doesn't always work as stated either. Sometimes if you try to sudo apt-get install, it doesn't work because you don't have the source within your apt-get thing and it just says skype not found for example. Sometimes, you want to install something but little did you know you needed like 20 different dependencies but it didn't even tell you that, so now you have to wonder why it's not even working. Good luck trying to install the latest NVIDIA drivers from their site. I read like 5 different sites with tutorials on how to do it, following word for word, and all that happened was my linux install broke with me not having the GUI anymore.

>, it doesn't work because you don't have the source within your apt-get thing and it just says skype not found for

you find somewhere else that it's compiled from and download the linux version. Skype is on the apt-get (Linux mint latest version here)

Don't even bother trying to compile from source... Waste of time lol

>anime
>intricate plots
Every single anime follows the same plot. Girly boy, girly girl, manly woman, extra tough manly man, nerdy boy/girl, outcast, hot teacher/mom, normal boy/man. There's no variation and the animation sucks. And yes, they are cartoons.
>>
>>556289072

[edit] Haven't messed with nvidia... But ATI you just go on the website, find your device, and download the linux drivers and install and dooone :)
>>
>>556289072

oh whoops forgot... How are the open source drivers on the linux distro? In the hardware section. Cause that might solve your problem.
