I personally only really liked 4, 5 (favorite), 6, and 9. The others are I don't like personally. 1-3 each has MAJOR problems that seem Dragon Quest 3 and 4 didn't on the NES. I hate 7's localization and battle system. 8's junction system is a nice idea but it's annoying if you don't know what to do. 10's plot is annoying. 12 feels unfinished (the main writer quit half way making it so that's why). And there's 13...oh 13 no one likes you.

But that's my opinion on the series.

I dunno, maybe they just didn't get into the series when it was being rolled out. Most of them say they enjoyed the really early Dragon Quest, but then never played the others until much later on and couldn't enjoy them. It could be the style too. Looking at it it doesn't look like it would appeal to me at first glance either.

Personally, and this is just my opinion, but I never liked the Hitman games. Thief was a fucking disaster, that's for sure, but at least Deus Ex doesn't seem to be taking a hit. They should have never developed a stupid mobile game, but I'm looking forward to their next project after how good HR was. I also was never a big fan of the Tomb Raider games either.

4 out of 13 is bulk? And one of the key things about Dragon Quest is that it hardly changes. The battle system stays the same. And the plot is barebone so that you are just focus on exploring and adventuring over trying to make sense of an over complicated plot.

Well from what I gathered it didn't seem like you had some particularly harsh words to say about the others you mentioned except for VII, XI, and XIII. From you saying that VIII's system is nice but annoying if you don't know what to do (which is just an issue of getting used to it, which is true of a lot of games) I didn't really gather that it's unenjoyable. And even if X's plot is annoying I don't see how that would keep you from enjoying it from a gameplay standpoint. That would make 6/9 of the ones you mentioned excluding I-III, but I don't know what major problems you're talking about there. V used III's job system, which was spectacular, and I don't see much of a problem with it. II was extremely unique but had some overworld and saving/exploring mechanic faults that could get you permastuck in a location. I just seemed great to me.

1-3 are massively dated and honestly was never really good. 1 tried to outdo Dragon Quest 2 (in the creators own words) and it failed. 2 has a stupid leveling system that I've heard SaGa fixes but never played those. 3 Job system came well after DQ 3 job system and DQ 3 system is a much better system. Since 80% of FF3 job systems were either just upgrades or just plain useless. 4 is fun because it let the plot be stupid and cheesy. 5 is even more and not only that every job was useful in some way. 6's problem for me is there are too many characters. Just simplify it down to 4 or 5. 7 plot is a incoherent mess and I'm not a fan of the meteria system. 8 junction system is annoying for multiple reasons. But one of the main issue is the best way to get the magic you need is the card game and I hate the card game. There's also drawing which is even more annoying. And I hate Squall but not as much as Rinoa. Hell the only character I actually liked was Laguna. 9 was a throwback to a time that I feel they were good. The gameplay was dumb in 10 because they tried to give a feeling of freedom with the Grid System but in reality it was just a linear path. They should have just kept it like FF4 and have you as set characters if you are going to do shit like that.

I felt underwhelm by the new Tomb Raider. I thought I was doing to need to actually survive like Snake Eater. I mean they set it up where it seem to had to hunt for your food and hide against the enemies. But then it just turned into a normal shooter. Hell the bow was so fucking broken in that game there was no reason to use anything else.

That's the main problem with AAA. They spend so much to "expand the audience" that it turns into grey tasteless goo. And they need a wider audience because they spend so much fucking money on their games. It's best to have a nice smaller budget so you can target the your people and hopefully have them get their friends to enjoy it too. Just making it more bland so they expand their appeal is what's really wrong right now.

Also morrowind was cool but you have to admit that the next few games are better because of the NPCs speaking to one another and moving about their daily business. Not to mention the less linear sword play and magic casting. Oh, and horses. They only needed to keep the old magic system and the team that developed Morrowind.
