Sometimes when I'm watching the absolute STATE of Raw, I picture a world where Goldberg didn't throw in the towel in 2004, and actually had a career resurgence before putting over John Cena in 2008, sparking Johns successful heel turn that silenced all the smarks. A future where Goldberg came back to WWE, buried CM Punk and Daniel Bryan in 2012 and pushed for a high billed rematch with John Cena, finally cementing John as "The Guy", where John went on to feud with Rock and Goldberg had a meaningful year long feud with a returning Brock, where both men traded wins, before he finally disappears for the last time in 2015...delivering a spear/Jackhammer burial to a Roman Reigns on his last chance to get over, causing Reigns to leave the company in frustration.

Happy at the future he prevented, Goldberg would retreat to his lavish lifestyle and many cars to live out his days with Milfberg and Sonberg, never to be seen in the ring again.

This is what Goldberg's return was all about, really. A lot of us adult fans cringe at what we were like as kids, but at the end of the day, when Goldberg hit that spear, our eyes lit up. When he hit the second, we smiled. When he delivered the Jackhammer, in maybe the beat fashion he ever had in WWE, we were marking the fuck out.

It was a glorious moment, especially for reasons of nostalgia, and sadly, it might be the last we get.

Goldberg is proof that wrestling is at its best when it's not about having a 5 star technical masterpiece between two flippy shitters.
