You and me both. I guess Cold War era stuff isn't considered that cool outside of a very small minority.
Like WWII stuff is regarded as this big grand thing thanks to decades of the Greatest Generation rambling on about how they personally punched Hitler while getting blown by Eva, modern gear is more accessible and there's plenty of stuff to do ranging from US kits like MARSOC to RUSFOR stuff like FSB, and even things like various HRT and SWAT units. The only thing I ever see from the Cold War era is Vietnam, and that's because of the vast cultural effect it had on the US.
It's probably also a combination of Cold War era kits not being super high speed, and the fact that there wasn't much action between Vietnam and the Gulf War other than small skirmishes in places like Grenada and Panama.

Ausfag here, moving to japan for a few years soon, pretty keen to try airsoft. i know that the jap market for asg's is a bit different to the US and Uk's (from what i gather) so is there any hard to find bits and pieces i should keep my eye out for? not necessarily looking for a gun so much but like little tidbits like a good speedloader or any other jap wondergadgets that are hard to cop anywhere else?

I just rewired one of my guns with 16awg wire (thickest I could get in the gb) and converted to deans.

It made an appreciable difference to the trigger response, and it also cured my leprosy at the same time. Would recommend.

Yes, here is my blessing and my advice:
Look not for guns you want, but for guns you know are worth the trade. Know what your options are around your home, look at the local pawn shops, the thrift stores, even gun shops. You will NEVER know what may be there, not even I know. Finally, know what websites may help you in your endeavors. For me, it is a local site known as lejeune yard sales; for you, it may be a county site. Craigslist or letgo when narrowed down will help you too, I just got a 40" flat screen and fireplace for $20. If you wish to have a recommendation on sites with decent prices, all you have to do is ask.

Picked up a H8R last week and finally used it for about 5 hours of CQB. Pretty fun gun and it is really easy to shoot, but the range is like 50 feet so don't expect to snipe people

I just don't like grip safeties on pistols, I always felt the Spaniards had the right idea when they omitted them from their 1911 clones.

It's not so much an issue of engaging it or not, I just think the presence makes for a slightly less nice grip, like it'd be nicer if it was just engaged by itself at all times and there was no change no matter how my hand shifted.

Hicaps are fine for starters, but they're noisy and can be somewhat finicky. Midcaps sacrifice capacity for simplicity and quietness.
If you want hicaps, at least get flash mags.

Hicaps are often looked down upon because they don't require you to reload. You wind a gear on the bottom of the mag to compress the spring. bb's are fed from a large chamber in the mag which can hold more ammo than several midcaps combined. I carry one on me as a last resort if I go through all my midcaps since having just one almost doubles how many bb's I can carry at once on the field.

It only takes a sliver of knowledge to realize that the tiny gas mag of a 1911 wouldn't rupture like that and shatter the frame unless you left in the oven, and then started wailing on it like a retard. Don't bother with AEPs. They're generally really weak clocking in at sub-200 FPS, have cheap plastic bodies, the slides are slow and only go back about an inch, sound pathetic, and have zero replacement parts.

If you absolutely HAVE to get an AEP, get a CYMA since those are Marui clones and you can get CYMA OEM gearboxes from places like Ehobby when your current one shits the bed. You don't get blowback on them though.

So I was trying to fix my gun (wouldnt fire) and after I ckecked the motor connections the motor was running fine. After I put the motor in it fired one shot then stopped. I had a WE brand Beretta 84 and it was a gigantic disappointment, trigger spring broke (after not that much use), and after a lot of effort trying to communicate with the dumb gooks to get me to send me replacement parts (some which they got wrong because of their terrible communication skills), the gun fell apart when I tried to put in the new spring (which I never got in there) and it's now sitting in a box, in parts, because I don't have hands small enough to get all the working parts inside.

I don't ever want another WE made Beretta again.

Airshit is generally not made out of high strength forged steel or machined aircraft aluminum, it's ABS plastic, zinc castings and maybe the odd small part made out of steel, on nicer guns. The finish is seldom anything but paint, as well.

Enough impacts from a 0.30gr projectile at 300fps or so will not only chip paint like crazy, but it'll batter that plastic and zinc over time, you'd definitely end up seeing some stress fractures at weaker points with enough hits.

i have one. It's true that there isn't really much to tinker with under the hood. I spent all of last Saturday flat hopping my gun only to find the stock krytac bucking and nub consistently out performed the flat hop. The only thing I could do to increase performance was installing a prometheous barrel and rewiring the gun to deans. With an 11.1 lipo the trigger response and fire rate is great. The only thing I plan to do in the future is install a spectre mk2 mosfet as soon as they come back in stock.

The bucking is the piece of rubber inside the hopup that comes in contact with the BB. I say the safety and trigger because over time both will wear down since they're made from cheaper metal. They shouldn't really be priorities on your upgrade list unless you're the type of turbo autismo that needs a 1 lb race gun trigger for bbwars.

Parts wise, a lot of it should just drop right in, but you need to realize that not every company makes their parts to the same exact dimension so they may require some minor modifications to the part of the gun itself. Slides are a good example of that where you may or may not need to lightly file down the slide so it runs smoothly.
For example, I have a WE slide on my TM 5.1 and it's not the snuggest fit.

It's a "skull crusher" mount for the PVS-7.

its just that for unknown reasons, my charger displays up to like 12V on the small display while charging them and they heat up a bit near the end. havn't had, like, fires or meltdowns or anything but was a tad worried still

Just bought a JG HK416 for $38, how should I upgrade it? I plan to put a ~350 FPS spring in it and use it for cqb. Assuming a budget of about $100, what else should go into it to generally improve performance? R-hop? New motor? Never worked on internals btw, what am I in for?

The Vector is interesting but I pretty much know for a fact I'll never have one, between dealing with retarded Canadian prices and liking other options a lot more I'll likely never get one.

On another note, I have quite a few guns for my VC loadout and have been thinking the past while that an airsoft MAT-49 would be awesome. Their receivers are so chunky I think you could easily provide a decent space in there for batteries. Am I the only one who would be interested in one of those?
