Decent ideas marred and limited by traditionalist teachings. You see some of the base techniques in other sporting arts (boxing, etc) used more effectively. Lack of live sparring with a good lineage prevents it from being "super" effective in general use.

Wing Chun is the very martial art out there, hands down.
We all like Wing Chun a lot over here.
We're all pretty much Wing Chun practitioners in some way.
Boxing is such a sport orientated sport, it doesn't work in more real situations, like in situations against animals.
Wing Chun, however, is very effective against animals.
Just look at how ineffective boxing is in this video.

Truth.
Wing Chun can be one of the best things to practice for (very) close range combat.
Especially if you are physically weak.
wrist movement and blocking systems are terrific.
you learn how to box, learn some wing chun, and learn some jui jitsu, and you'll be very very dangerous

This gif is a perfect example of a modified Wing Chun front kick being used as anti-grappling.
