I think it kills Kayfabe a little bit. All 30 entrants are supposed to be set prior too the event, especially number 30. To have him lose the UC title match and still be in the Rumble implies prior knowledge that he was going to lose vs. KO. If I were to book a way to have Roman go out #30 it would have been Triple H getting ready to go out as 30 in the back, Seth attacking him and injuring him and Steph having Seth escorted from the building, pan to next to Steph Roman walks up to her and she says "Just go out there" to him and she goes to tend to Triple H.

To be fair, this has been one of the better rumbles, with the exception of Enzo and Ellsworth, everyone who entered were given their 5 minutes of fame. Seeing Braun clear the ring was fantastic and really put him over as a monster heel, the way he was eliminated kept him strong as well, it wasn't just "bigger man throws Braun out" like they did with Brock.

Only issues for me was, Apollo Crews and Roman Reigns were wasted spots for more deserving people. Apollo is a literal who at this point and, as for Roman, I don't think anyone who participates in a main title match should ever also be in the rumble. It makes no sense. We're meant to suspend our belief and think it was possible for Roman to win, and if he did, Roman would have come out at 30 confused wondering if he could challenge himself at Wrestlemania.

As terrible as his character was, you can go back and watch Sheamus' face run the year he won the Rumble and shortly after the title and see the crowd was super invested in him. Not smarks particulary, but the casuals were eating up his persona as Smackdown Cena, obliterating everything in his path.

Del Rio's was a waste and got muddied with Edge retiring anyways, since they then gave Christian a feel good run to put the cherry on top of Edge's farewell tour. Then they propped Orton up as the top guy, where he failed to uphold the brand in comparison to Edge as ratings and interest never recovered up until recently with the brand split.

Neither of those situations, however, were as widely scorned and hated as Bootista and Booman Reigns overtaking what should have been Bryan's moments (at least for one of them for sure) I'll agree that Edge's was probably the last time most people were genuinely happy with the winner, which is insane when you consider it happened 7 years ago.

The Rumble's allure and prestige has taken a fuckin nosedive these past couple years, and it's entirely on them for shit tier booking.

They could really use this chance to bring to light Romans push over the years by Vince. Vince would need to appear on TV and after Roman goes through Taker a feud with Cena should be next. This of course requires Roman to be a heel but that would be pretty easy if its revealed that he's Vince's kayfabe chosen one. Vince can play up on his lack of faith in Cena and Taker to continue to be there and he can show frustration over not being able to compel the WWE universe to get behind the Big Dog.

Vince has gotten more talent over on-screen than he ever has off-screen and having one last tv role where he can get Roman over just as he wants him to would be a perfect way to say goodbye to Vince McMahon the character. It would please the smarks because they would have been right all along, and it would please the casuals because Vince is a fucking draw and always has been.
