A mark is somebody who doesn't know wrestling is fake. In carny language, a mark is somebody who's gullible, easy to trick, you mark them down because you can get money out of them. The opposite is a "smart", somebody who knows wrestling is fake and likely has some connection backstage.
Smark is "smart mark", a person who knows wrestling is fake but enjoys it anyway. They tend to look at wrestling as any other TV show, focusing on aspects like the writing, the acting and the quality of the in-ring competition. They try to suspend disbelief and get invested in it the same way you would a regular TV show or a movie.
There aren't really marks anymore, because kayfabe is dead. If you're a fan of wrestling, you're a smark to one degree or another.
Triple H, for the record, cannot be a smark, because he works for the promotion. Somebody who's in the business can't be a smark.
