red pill me on Jim Cornette
hes the guy that used to come out to the ring with the tennis racket and scream about his wrestlers
>>2125304
his voice changed over the years and he never smoked or drank just screamed all the time.
>>2125304
Grumpy old fart that can't get over mah NWA territories :(
Has he apologized for ragging on Omega yet? After WK11 people will rightfully laugh his shit clickbaity opinions out of the fucking building he's in.
>>2125304
He is most well-known as a wrestling manager for a few tag teams, but he's most important as a booker (especially on WCW's booking committee, before they were replaced and it went to shit, then was bought by Ted Turner). Also worked behind the scenes for WWF during the Attitude Era, where he helped make that era great. After that, he managed Ohio Valley Wrestling, which was the prototype for the current NXT. Then he went and worked for Ring of Honor, where he helped train people like Kevin Owens.
Dude has been everywhere, known everyone, and done everything. He's a living legend.
But best of all are his shoots. He can shoot on fucking anything and it will be hilarious as fuck. Especially when talking about Vince Russo (pic related)
I literally cried fucking tears from laughing so hard the first time I listened to this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDG9Iu0CYbE
He used to slap wrestlers at the performance center.
>>2125360
>I'm surprised your wife would even fuck you with that microscopic dick of yours, you piece of shit. And if I were you, I would have goddamn DNA tests done on your kids, because I refuse to believe that you could get hard enough to penetrate her, to shoot even a lick of fucking sperm into her to the point where you could have fuckin children. So I have a feeling that those are probably the mailman's, or maybe even the milkman's.
>>2125377
That's when it got a little awkward for me
>>2125360
Him shooting on Kevin Dunn is the best.
>>2125353
He was right though barely anyone paid to see omega
Just because a bunch of redditors watched a free youtube video of le six star match best eva ok regards meltzer and jumped on the bandwagon doesnt mean shit
>>2125383
Kevin Dunn is a close second in my book
at 4:10 is one of my favorite Dunn stories (through the rest of the video)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCeFUdBlHn0
The song he did about wanting to see Brock Lesnar wearing white was great.
>>2125360
>You numb nut sack of snake feces
>>2125383
>>2125388
'a bunch of redditors'? He's the hot topic for everyone right now, what are you smoking?
And that's not even the point, he whined that because Omega wrestled a little girl (a thing that Omega actually explained rather well if you don't care for clickbait) he doesn't take wrestling seriously, well, did he take it seriously last night or no?
Was the table spot a joke?
He is 100% full of shit here, no one will listen to his shit on Omega after WK11.
Bitter old man who passed his use-by date in the late 90s.
His booking of early 2010s ROH was so atrocious it's only just begun to recover from it in the past couple of years.
>>2125400
I don't know what you're referencing, since I cba to watch NJPW, but Cornette is an old-school "professional wrestling" guy who cares a lot about the merits of the business. I've seen him shoot on a lot of stuff that he sees as being disrespectful to the business - fans chanting ECW instead of chanting for the wrestlers, people cheering "the match" instead of cheering the babyface and booing the heel, etc. Cornette hates spot-fests.
Back in the day, matches were about telling stories - not just a series of spots. You wanted fans to get emotionally invested, and the moves a wrestler did were supposed to be part of that (you don't just walk out and start doing moves - you might put him in a headlock to wear him down, chop him as a sign of being angry, etc.).
Viz the "Disney on Ice" metaphor. Nowadays, "sports entertainment" is treated like a spectacle you go to see as a whole. With "professional wrestling" you're going to see storylines that play out in physical altercations.
>>2125425
He said something retarded about 'can someone slit Omega's throat' or something like that because he saw some of the not so serious stuff.
Basically he was talking shit before Omega wrestled at the G1 Climax, he just sounds silly in context now.
>>2125441
Cornette often uses something called "hyperbole" to help make his point
but to Cornette, disrespecting the business is disrespecting him and everything he's worked for in his life. if you make a joke of the business, it's a personal insult to him
>>2125400
>Was the table spot a joke?
Yes. Drew Galloway did that exact "do a flip over the top rope to a table outside the ring for no reason" spot during the WeeLC match
>>2125447
and?
Cornette is an angry circus clown just begging for attention and dollars, pathetic really
>>2125304
He's a fucking mark who has been fired from literally every promotion he has ever worked for. Admittedly his shoots are funny, but even he has admitted that russo has done more for the business. Basically he's an old fuck who can't accept that Sports entertainment killed wrasslin.
>>2125462
He is a clickbait monkey
>>2125450
Cornette is right about Omega being a clown killing the donestic njpw audience who dont want comedy in their main event
Omega appeals to no one but white smarks who dont actually spend money on merch or tickets or subscriptions
>>2125469
this
im surprised how little wk 11 drew. it would have drawn 10,000 more if naito and tanahashi was promoted as the main event
>>2125469
Was there comedy in that match at WK11 though? I must be missing something here, also, since when was he the voice for the 'domestic njpw audience' again?
Why is Omega so overand so hot right now if what he does isn't wanted? He's talking absolute shit.
>>2125470
>would have drawn 10,000 more
one of the things that's causing the business to go to shit is nobody knows what it means to "draw."
At the end of the day, your goal is to get people to give you their money. Not just to have dirty smarks talk about your product online. Not just for Meltzer to shoot his jizz because of something. You want people to give you money.
>>2125304
favors old school wrestling. he's the anti russo. likes big guys. hates comedy shit.
he's pretty based tbqhwyf
>>2125469
>Cornette is right
>white smarks don't buy merch
Imagine being dumb enough to actually believe this.
>>2125489
>not that guy, but:
I highly doubt American fans are buying an appreciable amount of merch from NJPW.
There may be a lot of white smarks buying WWE merch, but not NJPW
>>2125487
wtf r u talkin about. tanahashi and naito would have drawn more butts to seats in the tokyo dome than fuckin okada vs a gaijin from NJPW
Wrestling manager, wrestling booker, was around in the old territory days, knows about wrestling history, anger issues, libcuck, stuck in the past with how to book wrestling.
>>2125506
oh, and hates vince russo with the heat of 10000 suns
he's a cuck who voted for Bernie
>>2125360
get a load of this fucking mark
>>2125506
slapped the fuck out of Santino for 'muh kayfaybe' in front of Santino's daughter when he knew he wouldn't fight back for rish of being fired.
>>2125522
I'm not aware of his daughter being invovled at all... Not sure where that came from
>have Boogeyman in OVW
>wanting to make him a scary character
>he runs to the exit after some in-ring shenanigans
>everyone nearby takes off running
>fucking Santina just sits there, right next to the door, without moving
>dumbass makes Boogeyman not seem scary
That's like being an extra in a movie and not reacting to anything that's happening. It's your fucking job to play along. Literally - your job.
Granted, I don't think Cornette should have slapped him around, but given that it's an industry based on [controlled] violence, I'm not going to hold it against him. Like going 4mph over the speed limit - it's technically against the law, but nobody cares.
>>2125817
Literally nobody fucking ever was scared of The Boogeyman.
>>2125823
you may not know this but... wrestling is fake. but just like a tv show or movie, the more believable it is, the more you'll generally enjoy it
when i watch a scary movie, i don't really get scared - but it's fun to play scared
>>2125878
The Boogeyman was literally a work in kayfabe.
Sit down, mark.
>>2125522
He slapped Santino in front of Marty Wright, so Santino couldn't fight back for fear of being beaten to a pulp by Marty. In other words, Santino was shoot terrified of the Boogeyman. Cornette exposing Marella's claims about being a shooter meant that the little faggot had to work comedy matches until he broke his neck.
>>2125817
That come from Santino himself who was smiling because he was happy for his daughter who was marking out over Boogeyman.
>>2125909
> shoot terrified
I've been a wrestling fan on and off since the late-80's and I've NEVER seen Jim Cornette in literally ANYTHING other OSW Review's Wrestlemania 17. And, frankly, I don't think I'm missing anything. He seems like a self-righteous tryhard whose above average intelligence is mistaken for exceptional or genius, often by Corny himself. Frankly, there's no way he is important or exceptional if I've gone 25+ years without any mention or sighting of him.

Pro-wrestling manager and living legend/meme, his shoots, podcast and live appearances are the stuff that keep him relevant but back in the day he was famous for basically managing everyone and their mothers while whining with a racket and playing the character of a manchild whose mother buyed a tag team for him IIRC.
After that, he worked a lot backstage either as a booker (WCW - early WWF - TNA) or a road agent like in TNA, but he's retired
He basically doesn't like anything in pro-wrestling that in a realistic way makes no sense like spotfests (e.g., he disliked Ricochet v. Ospreay), comedy wrestling (Chikara) but not comedy itself in wrestling (he did in fact made comedy skits as a manager but not with the intention of generate laughter but with the intention of looking like a smartass/asshole), hardcore wrestling (because it takes away the original purpose of working a match which is to simulate a combat a.k.a. pretend to hit each other making it look believable and not literally hitting each other with weapons), Vince Russo, Kevin "Bucky Beaver Motherfucker" Dunn and all of those who didn't grew up with a wrestling mentality and then some more stuff which some people translates to "hurr he hates evrything past muh 80's and Lawler" for shitposting purposes.
He got alongside nemesis Vince Russo the best ratings of TNA by (according to him) fixing everything Russo made, he saved RoH with all the deals he made for them although his booking there sucked, he trained people like John Cena, Randy Orton and Batista in OVW, the developmental program which he pitched to Jim Ross and the WWE in the first place and now lives a supposedly happy life swearing on his podcast and being as healthy as possible so he can outlive Vince Russo and, in his own words, "go to his grave and piss on it".
>>2125463
He already accepted it and even questions himself why people even want to be wrestlers today
>>2125948
As I said in >>2125360 , Cornette's importance isn't as a manager and/or an on-screen figure. His tennis racket will always be well-known, but that's not his main contribution.
Cornette was part of a 4-person booking committee (with Flair, Kevin Sullivan, and Jim Ross). When they got replaced with Jim Herd as the booker, it turned Jim Crockett Promotions/WCW to shit, and after that it was bought by Ted Turner. In other words, he was part of the last good run of the Starrcade/Ric Flair/Dusty Rhodes/4-Horsemen era of classic WCW
Cornette was also a booker with WWF during the Attitude Era (along with Vince Russo and others, though Vince was ultimately the filter that separated the great ideas from the multitude of shit ones)
Cornette also ran Ohio Valley Wrestling, the prototype NXT - which trained people like John Cena, Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar, and Batista
Cornette is one of the great minds of "the business." The overarching point of this thread is that Cornette cares a lot about the business aspect of everything. Heels and babyfaces developed through storylines, events that form a plot, wrestling as a plot device and not just a show, etc. You can teach any fit guy to wrestle - what's a lot harder is teaching them to work a crowd and get the audience emotionally invested in what's happening, and make it more than just a series of moves.
>>2126007
>along with Vince Russo and others, though Vince was ultimately the filter that separated the great ideas from the multitude of shit ones)
Vince [McMahon] was the filter
Russo was known for coming up with a ton of random shit, but McMahon picked the gems out of the pile of shit -> Attitude Era
He's a delusional fuck. Watch him fantasy booking the invasion. He thought it would be a great idea to have Dusty Rhodes vs. Hulk Hogan main event WM 17. Also, iirc he proposed a year-long storyline with Terry Funk and the IC title
He gets obliterated by Kenny the six star GOAT and the Young Bucks everyday.
>>2125304
Cornette is a bitter old fuck who's never been an actual success in any role that wasn't exclusively on-screen as a manager. He's never run a successful wrestling company in his life, but people still act like he's the greatest wrestling mind in the history of the business and anything he books will become instant gold. Fact of the matter is he's just an old fuck who doesn't know how to adapt with the times, got stuck in the 80s and refuses to leave. He has a huge problem with wrestling being driven by writers instead of bookers, but he doesn't realize is that bookers became obsolete when pro wrestling went from being a fake live sporting event to a television format. Cornette wants the internet to go away so he can go back to working marks and taking money from them. If Cornette had it his way, everybody would be stupid and still think wrestling is a real sport so he could make money off them like everybody else was doing in the 80s when he came up in the business.
To put it simply, Jim Cornette is a mark for his own goddamn nostalgia and people praise him as a fucking god because he's one of the only people who've been in the wrestling business who has some charisma and whores himself out to shoot interviews whenever anybody comes a'knockin for one.
>>2125304
still living in the 80s, nearly killed ROH, gets attention today mostly from literal meme appeal.
Would probably just be an obnoxious msnbc pundit if he were born a few years later.
>>2126007
That's all well and good, but his last stint as a booker was a fucking disaster that caused ROHbots to pelt rings with >>>/trash/
>>2125497
You are an assclown and if if you actually went to wrestling events outside of WWE you will find many people wearing Bullet Club merch.
>>2126011
>Russo was known for coming up with a ton of random shit, but McMahon picked the gems out of the pile of shit -> Attitude Era
If Cornette said it it must be true. Where is McMahon 'pickin the gems' today?
>>2127055
Failed nu-male ""Hollywood writers"" don't have any good ideas nor do they know how to book a wrestling show.
>>2127068
But if Corny tries to say Russo is shitty writer, what he is saying doesnt make any sense. If he even managed to write that many gems that McMahon allegedly picked, hes pretty damn talented writer.
>>2127149
you do realize russo and vince weren't the only two people in the creative team. and cornette himself has said that russo had 2 years of big success, just everything else was shit.
>>2127055
You know Mr. McMahon is old and senile right?! Stephanie McMahon and Triple H runs everything now and ain't doing such a good job...
>>2127149
>>2127055
McMahon isn't picking a whole lot of gems today... especially in terms of storylines and character development. The 'big names' are people who got famous outside WWE on their own accord (Kevin Owens, AJ Styles) and people people have [also] been in the business for a long-ass time (Chris Jericho).
>excluding women because Vince doesn't know how to think of women and Kevin Dunn has always tried to fuck everything up, so there's no solid foundation to talk about things
Keep in mind that Cornette fucking hates Russo. He and Kevin Dunn are probably the two people Cornette hates most in the world. Cornette's not going to make shit up so Russo looks good - but he does give him credit for coming up with good ideas (and discredits the shit he didn't come up with but says he did - like Austin 3:16 and the Stone Cold persona).
Back in the day, McMahon and Pat Patterson would sit around Vince M's pool and work out what they wanted their storylines to be
>including pushing a lot of people into pool's because, well, they could
so a lot of writers/bookers/etc fed ideas to them. Russo came up with some great ideas, but also a lot of shit. It was while they hashed things out that things got so good, and they left a lot (but by no means all) the shit behind
that's also why Russo was a huge flop when he tried to save WCW, and shit became so gimmicky. McMahon would never have allowed a "Judy Bagwell on a pole" match. You never would have had David Arquette winning the WWF title. Russo had absolutely no filter in WCW - other than people with creative control like Hogan not putting up with his shit. Without that filter, he was fucking garbage - and WCW died.
Did he manage anyone besides the Midnight Express and Heavenly Bodies?
>>2125304
He was a pretty hot piece of boipussy back in the day but then he got all fat and angry. Sad!

I enjoy his podcast and political rants but he couldn't be a bigger Democrat shill if he tried.
Everything he says about Trump is accurate though.

>he couldn't be a bigger Democrat shill if he tried.

>he's a shill

What did he mean by this?
>>2131369
Nice way to ignore the "about Trump" part
>>2131369
trump is a democrat tho
>>2131369
He's correct in his criticisms of Trump but is completely blind to the Democrats' own corruption and self-serving hypocrisy.
Both parties are shit but Cornette genuinely believes that the Democrats are good.

Is there anyone on wrestling history that hates another person on the business as much as Cornette hates Russo?
Man, I hate to say this, but I would really like to see what happen if Russo dies soon, Cornette's podcast will be historic that day
