Wrestling was seen as legit, it build momentum and drama before the good moves started to hit in the match, you saw an story in the ring, performers sold you that they were fighting in the ring.

Dynamite Kid was seen as this crazy Michael Jordan guy that could do amazing things in the ring because he was that good.

The Mcmahon vision of Rock'n Wrestling shat on everyone as he exposed the business with his cartoony shit, then people stopped to like wreslting because it was exposed as "fake".

The popularity of Vince WWF was because kids liked iits cartoon style and parents were "casuals" that fell into the hype and flash of the subpar product, compared to the territories days.

The NWA era was miles better on the ring product that WWF, if Hogan stayed on the AWA he would of been great imagine him feuding with an "old final boss real wrestler vet" Nick Bockwinkel would been miles better than Hogans feud with King Kong Bundy.
