Do you disagree with some of abernethy's applications?
If so of course which and why

Looking at 52 blocks you see that just about anything you can do with your hands is a viable fighting technique, so it's not strange that you can find things that make sense out of any kata movement, and keep in mind that the things he comes up with are smart regardless.

The thing that bothers me is that if the way he interprets them is correct, the kata would hint at it more clearly to begin with.

For example, what this guy does here https://youtu.be/TwtlVGODs7s?t=2m26s can easily be interpreted as Kusanku's first movement, but how do you explain that you're supposed to slightly hunch back from your position?
It's more akin to this https://youtu.be/juyanT_0zoM?t=2m25s

More practical example, the cup and saucer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXCrbuMKMTk).
Why does the kata make you move your hands to the side directly, instead of giving a transitioning move like he does?

First example was for the first line I wrote, not the second

Still on the cup and saucer, considering passai's supposed history, we can look at other versions.

Tomari https://youtu.be/r_KXtiRVtuU?t=45s
This is the same as Funakoshi's enpi on the other side https://youtu.be/KjGZLa50Z_w?t=14s

Chotoku Kyan https://youtu.be/i2wAqLJZnYM?t=19s

What they have in common is arm goes from inside to outside, to then strike with the other towards it.
Funakoshi Enpi/Tomari passai move something sideways and strike it with the forearm (highering the knee). Kyan passai takes a hold of something from inside to outside of his perspective, raises foot sideways (unbalancing the adversary's leg?) then strikes moving towards what he grabbed.

We can fairly surely say the hand going outside is to grab the enemy's arm from its outside to then hit both it and his leg

The look for the head to feel it better seems in comparison a wasted movement for something larp tier

Well, tomari doesn't strike with forearm but puts pressure with open hand, but you get the point

I'll go on later

Tekki / Naihanchi

Besides the obvious (kata doesn't keep hold of anything: the hand is on the side), it goes from back hand directly to hand on elbow, were it like his the kata would simply make the hand circle above the head.

Thus the hand either parries and takes the head, or directly takes a hold of it and helps it meet the elbow, only in all older versions (https://youtu.be/vewbBy4dUEo) the hand is inclined upwards, and were it about taking the head it wouldn't make any sense.

Enpi / Wanshu
https://youtu.be/LgG3MuD7V_8?t=3m29s
What even is this, all the kata does is take your hands to the left hip
https://youtu.be/LgG3MuD7V_8?t=5m59s
Were it intended like that, the hand would actually make that circular movement. Instead it does a straight line.

Should I go on?

Alternatives are, naihanchi: just an effective way of closing in on the enemy while parrying the inside of an arm, then elbow the side of his head
Enpi (example for the start https://youtu.be/SW5907Eeo7c): someone grabs you, place your other side's arm on his, grab it with other hand, turn sideways while pushing his arm outwards from you, punch his side with arm that stays near the hip
