Ryback does seem to genuinely believe it too - that 'hard work' should lead to top-billing.

Leaving aside the very likely assumption that many people work as hard or harder than him, entertainment really doesn't come down to *just* hard work. He can 5am as many gym sessions as he wants, but it won't give him a character that people care about.

So in that sense, he's right. As he doesn't have the ability, vocal chops, or charisma to take him up the card, 'hard work' alone gives him a pretty low ceiling in this industry. And rightly so.
