It was. But it's hardly his fault that a match against Stardust, wherein Stardust got 90% of the offense was a turd.
It just dragged way too much. There were numerous places wherein Zayn should've hit his comeback, but Starudst just dragged it out for another 2-3 minutes each time.
It's not like Zayn doesn't have a vocabulary of matches down in NXT head-and-shoulders above anything Rollins has done, anyway.

That's probably why they do it, it's a good asset to make the opponent seem strong and the matches more believable. Unfortunately overdoing it slows down the pace too much and makes it tedious.
Ziggler at Survivor Series '14 is a good example. He sold the group beat down well, but it dragged on longer than it should have. Then Sting eye fucked HHH for literally 2 straight minutes.
Tempo has always been a major issue in the business and there aren't enough people who can control it well.

Zayn is probably the best salesman in the WWE. When he wrestled Owens, and took that beating where Owens took the belt from him in a TKO win. Most of the people in the building were getting worked hard cause they thought Zayn was legit dead/injured from concussions. Havent seen that many gasps in a while.
