Why does /asp/ recommend Kyokushin karate as a good striking style when it doesn't even train for punches to the head? What does it have that Muay Thai doesn't?
Also, discuss striking styles

>What does it have that Muay Thai doesn't?

Belts, uniforms, Japanese terminology. A bigger variety of techniques.

You'll find many schools DO train for punches to the head, but honestly not as well as Muay Thai.

You'll probably end up a little better able to take hits to the body from Kyokushin, but not substantially so. Conditioning will probably be better from MT, so that's a wash.

They're not THAT different, but if the cultural trappings of KK appeal to you more than those of MT, you're going to look forward to training more and end up getting more out of it.

Kyo trains for self defense and with self improvement as the first and foremost goal

In muay thai you train to win matches as the first an foremost goal

Before you can go into technical details you have to look at the overall destination of each art/sport.

Hey /asp/ I'm hoping maybe you can give me some guidance.
I'm a big fan of super-heroes and fictionalized martial arts, and I'd really like to "get into" that sort of thing.
But I'm not sure what I should do.

I know that I want to be able to defend myself well, and also deal some damage, move quickly, and be agile.
So it would seem parkour is what I need to learn, right?
What else?
A martial art seems like something else I should develop, but I don't know which one(s) or how to choose.

I don't wanna get super buff or anything, my body is already on the masculine side, and I don't wanna look manly/unattractive.

As an aside, i should mention that I'm not completely, out of shape, I'm 6'0" and I weigh about 160 right now (working on losing some weight; my "goal" is 145, but I don't know how reasonable that is in practice)
I bicycle often, but I don't have super thighs.

I'm a woman, in case that was unclear
>>
>So it would seem parkour is what I need to learn, right?
I don't think so. Parkour would help you navigate a terrain but it very rarely focuses on any sort of combat.
>>

right, I know that, I guess I left out the "I want to be able to move around well and not hurt myself" bit.
...idk, Spider-Man type shit, basically.
pic unrelated.

So in less than a year, I plan on becoming a vagrant and traveling the world with nothing but my backpack. While I do this, I will obviously not be able to attend regular martial arts classes, but I do want to continue to train and grow as a martial artist.
My question is, what would be the best way to do that? I figure I'd be able to enter amateur fights every once and a while to maintain my skills, but how can I continue learn more?

Boxing vs BJJ.jpg

Boxers can break your neck , knock you out, smash your skull, or crack your ribs with just one punch.

BJJ is a shit tier martial art for realistic self defense. First of all 90% of street fights happen with multiple aggressors. You do not want to be hugging a guy on the floor, whilst his friend stomps your head.

You want to stay on your feet and move around, always being aware of surroundings.

Fights happen on concrete, Which is a bad place to be rolling around on the floor with someone.

Choking out a lone aggressor would be attempted murder. Breaking someones arm would be grievous bodily harm. Knocking someone out would count as self defense.

Only with very strict rules (e.g no pinching or biting) and competition like environment is BJJ ever a useful "martial art" .

In conclusion : BJJ is useless art form, that only works in an unrealistic and contrived sports environment.

If you train BJJ for anything other than competing in professional MMA you are wasting both money and time.
