I've literally never seen him discussed on /asp/.

This is despite him arguably drawing more dimes than anyone and being the biggest special attraction WWE has ever had.

Probably because none of us were alive to see him in action. Also, how much footage of prime Andre is there?

In terms of prime Andre, this is his best match, in my opinion.

What do they see in this guy? Since he came to the main roster two years ago:

1 time Universal Champ
2 time US Champ
3 time Intercontinental Champ

Sammy, meanwhile, is rotting at the bottom of the card.

Trips likes him. idk, never saw the appeal. Okay wrestler, inconsistent talker, bad look, anti-draw. Then again everyone in wwe is nowadays.
>>
Okay promo (was consistently great when paired with Y2J though), above average wrestler, bad look. Yeah, he'd be a midcarder in most other eras of WWE. Sami is even worse though.

Ric is a hugely overrated bingo hall shitter who couldn't wrestle, got carried by good opponents, and flopped in the big time.
Omega has three six star matches.
There's nothing "great" about this debate. Ric vs Sandow would be fairer.

The match that killed wwe.png

Per Dave Meltzer:

"He's going to wrestle, if he can get cleared and she completely supports him wrestling again. If it's not in WWE, that's fine, go wherever he wants to wrestle. She talked about how he's been getting treatment in a hyperbaric chamber, at least 40 treatments. If he's had 40 treatments, I guess he thinks it's a positive. Joe Namath has been doing that and he said it's improved his cognitive skills and lessened the damage that he's had. I guess Daniel feels that it's been helping him. He's got a year to go and boy does that open up a lot of questions. Who knows where this business is going to be in a year. Especially after the year New Japan Pro Wrestling has been having. And then it becomes a real interesting issue. Because one way or another, he's going to wrestle. If he believes that wrestling is not the right thing for him, he will not wrestle. But he's not convinced that it's not. At one point, he was convinced that wrestling was no longer for him but he now believes he can do it. The outside scene is the biggest it has ever been since the death of WCW in 2001 and quite frankly, if you really want to go in there and your passion is having great matches, there are far better wrestlers outside of the WWE than there are in the WWE. It's not even close. If you're talking about the top 15 wrestlers in the world, how many of them are in the WWE, one, maybe two? So if you want to have the best matches... That's not the place to be. The question becomes... when push comes to shove and his contract ends... Do they then clear him? Does the pressure go on Maroon? Do they really want him, if there is an option that has got some momentum like NJPW or Ring Of Honor or Progress. Do they really want him to go? Because he'll make a difference. He'll make a BIG difference. It's a very interesting situation."

"There's another thing too because it wasn't just his head, he's been having neck issues, the neck thing that sidelined him. At the same time, he'll have had a couple of years off. Injuries heal. I don't know if brain injuries heal. In some ways, I'm sure his knees, his neck and his back probably feel the best they've ever felt since he was 19 years old right now so that's probably why he's so interested in returning right now. I'm sure when he's running around in the gym, exercising and not taking any bumps, when he's doing his normal daily training, I bet he feels the best he's ever felt since he was a teenager. His body's been healing up for the last couple of years. So it's going to be very interesting when his contract is up, it's looking pretty strong that he's going to wrestle. I hope he goes to the right doctors. He'll listen. I know he'll listen. Every doctor's got a different opinion. And this is not a fool-proof science. I wonder if he's doing any media this week, that'll obviously be the big question and he'll give the straight answer. We already know that with him"

Bryan Alvarez: "So it says on this website here: Clinical research has shown that Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy can be of great benefit to traumatic brain injury patients, even as far as 14 years after the brain injury ocurred, some patients with severe brain injury have recovered almost 100% of all normal brain functions and have returned to happy and productive lives.

Dave Meltzer: "That's very interesting. So he has been on this treatment since April and he's had 40 sessions. That tells me he's serious and pretty gung-ho about this."

Uh oh, boys. Is it happening? Jesus Christ, are these Hyperbaric Chambers really this strong and powerful? Could it help heal CM Punk, Katsuyori Shibata and many others who have had severe brain injuries and concussion? Will Omega vs Bryan sell 25,000 tickets in Toronto, Canada or Seattle, Washington?

Razor Ramon VS Shawn Michaels, WrestleMania X

Bret Hart VS Owen Hart, SummerSlam '94

Bret Hart VS Steve Austin, WrestleMania 13

Shawn Michaels VS The Undertaker, Badd Blood: In Your House

John Cena VS CM Punk, Money in the Bank 2011

These are the five matches Meltzer has granted the coveted five stars to in WWF/E. In your estimation, do you think any of them REALLY deserved it? Here's my take on each:

>Razor/Shawn
It holds up well enough, but I feel like you had to be there to truly appreciate it as the first-ever ladder match. Definitely at least four stars, but maybe not five.

>Bret/Owen
Holy GOD, Meltzer is a mark for the Harts. This match was thirty minutes of boredom with an okay post-match brawl. MAYBE two stars at best.

>Bret/Austin
I think this one deserves it. The crowd brawl in the beginning, the iconic image of a bloodied Austin on the verge of defeat but not giving Bret the satisfaction of a tap out, the double turn that ultimately resulted... it's quality stuff. Five stars for sure.

>Shawn/Taker
I honestly don't remember much about this match except THAT'S GOTTA BE KANE, but it's Shawn and Taker inside arguably the best stipulation match WWF/E produced. Absolutely four stars minimum, but I think five is debatable.

>Cena/Punk
Mostly slow, but the last ten minutes or so are great. McMahon coming out to try and screw Punk only for Cena to say no and get beaten for his honor was the highlight. Vince calling an audible with ADR was also cute. Again, at least four, but I dunno if I'd say five.

I think a tangible part of Cena/Punk is the story and the crowd. If that's in Pittsburgh, it ain't a 5.
>>
>>3018039
Cena vs Punk was the only match EVER worthy 6,25*
>>
Michaels vs. Mankind would have easily been 5-stars if it had a non-DQ finish.

Do they personally care what le metlz thinks? Some do. But a lot of wrestlers, particularly outside the WWE, are very concerned with what people think of their match quality in general

Only if you're a mark. There is nothing validating getting your fake fight rated by some wrestling "journalist" by his subjective opinion.

Alright, /asp/. Let's settle it. Between Kazuchika Okada and Kenny Omega, which of these two is having the better year? All I hear about is how great Okada is and how Meltzer and Alvarez and the majority of this board think he's the greatest wrestler in the world right now. Am I the only one who prefers Omega to Okada? His moves are more devastating, his attacks hit harder, his selling is unbelievably good and he's far more charismatic in the ring. But personal opinions aside, which of these two do you feel is having the better year? And although we all recognize how incredible and amazing Tetsuya Naito is, I think it's safe to say he isn't having as good a year as Okada or Omega.

I agree Omega is more offensively explosive but I think Okada has much better selling, psychology, storytelling and to round it off his offense is also excellent, just not as visually amazing as Omega's crazy move-set. He's a lot more fundamental, but his dropkick is literal perfection and the elbow drop's not far behind.
I think it's more the style you like. Omega's the thrilling high-spots guy, Okada's the sound, completely versatile mechanic.
Personally prefer Okada for more consistently great matches with a wider group.

How did I do boys? This was the second year in a jow that I've flown to Japan to catch the final nights of the G1. Met a couple cool guys, shutouts to Eric and Harry. Maybe went a little bit crazy on the merch but hey, I've got the disposable income so why not? Kenny T-shirt and towel are from last year, kinda cheating but makes the pic look more impressive. Hello Kitty T-shirt is my wife's. The big cushion was a free gift they gave you for buying tickets in the lower bowl area of Sumo Hall.

What a show! The main events all delivered. There were some surprisingly good tag matches in the mix. SHIBATA! His return might've been the most moving and emotional pop I've ever heard. The cute Japanese girl sitting next to me started crying. She later screamed so hard for Kenny she lost her voice. Overall it was an excellent trip. If New Japan stays hot I'd love to come back next year. Happy to answer any questions you guys might have about buying tickets or travelling to Japan. Cheers!
