It will take years for you to be a match for an average untrained male of your same body weight in any martial art, decades to beat someone heavier and you'd never have a shot against someone with a basic understanding of how to fight

I'm in a similar position with kickboxing and BJJ.

I've been wondering whether dropping the 2 bjj sessions and taking 4 x kickboxing classes a week would give me that much more skill in a shorter amount of time.

Thoughts?

Previous thread.

Okay, so what's going on in this week, in the world of professional wrestling? Well:

> The huge story is still Seth Rollins sustaining a dangerous injury, suffering a torn ACL, MCL and medical meniscus. This means the prince of the Authority is going to be out for at least 6-9 months, putting him out for his title defence at Survivor Series and any future WrestleMania match they were planning
> The WWE is thrown into chaos as it's been said that creative are trying to come up with something to help rectify the title situation. The latest is that come Survivor Series, there will be a tournament to decide the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion
> Also with Seth out of action this leaves the WWE with very little options as it comes to having people in the main event picture. John Cena is is taking his time off, Orton is also injured and Lesnar... well he's probably at home sleeping on a bed made of solid gold (so I doubt he gives that much of a shit). Word is going around that the WWE will have to shake things up and build around a new set of main eventers and to spice things up on the roster

What's going to happen come Survivor Series and next week's Monday Night Raw? Only time will tell...

alright so what's the consensus?

is it safe to skate *after* rain? will my deck/bearings/hardware get fucked up?
>>
>>757313
water messes with the mtal parts but it's worse for your deck, because it's made out of wood. If you can handle the slipperiness make sure you avoid splashes. That's what logic dictates.

idk about the technical parts but my griptape got really dirty and i ended up towelling it off after i was done skating

Hey, looking to pick up a MA, as my condition went to shit and i put on way to much chub
college offers these:Aikido, Capoeira, Judo, JuJutsu, Karate, Kung Fu, Muay Thai, NinJutsu Tae Kwon Do
wich one would be best suited to loose the weight and build up condition?

muay thai or judo

everything else on the list is garbage. not even trolling
>>
>>757247
Muay Thai if you do it for cardio.

Judo if you want a style you can stick with forever.
>>
>>757247
If you're interested in fitness, look for Capoeira, Judo, Muay Thai and TKD or Karate if they're good.

If you want the bonus of fighting, pick Judo or Muay Thai. If you want to avoid fighting, go with Capoeira.

New to airsofting, been once but went in just some walking pants and a grey hoodie. I've decided im going to buy some gear for it and was wondering if anyone would recommend and certain pieces of kit, certain camos etc? Anything will be very helpful

Look around the local goodwills for uniform pieces in different camos.
I got a pair of us military combat trousers in desert, light urban and woodland camouflage all together for less than $20.
It's not even hard.

Depends on your price range. But go on Evike, Airsoft GI, local stores. Also Jet Desert Fox, Evike, and Airsoft GI all have awesome youtube channels.

last week my 3 month gym membership expired and i didn't renew it because of the prices there. i pause for a week and i already started feeling like an inactive shit. i only tried out the 3 months option because i planed to join a martial arts gym after that ( mma or simply muay thai if i can find serious gyms ). i'm still young and i could perform well in competition about a couple of months or a year and i have time for that. however i haven't found a serious martial gym yet, i have a few option in mind but i didn't try out any of them yet.

after these 3 months of lifting i could already see the results ( not mad gains because i started following a serious program only in the past month and even then with unplaned pause days but i can see results ), i felt better and i was thinking i should get another membership at a local fitness gym. there is no shortage of cheap gyms in my area so i can continue my fitness plan.

the question is how effective is martial arts training ( as i said, serious training, not the chinese bullshit you can see in 70s movies ) for gaining mass. i wanted to start training for self-denfense too and maybe even competition, but i don't get in many fights and i can already kinda defend myself so that's not the main goal.
how effective is martial arts training, should i choose lifting over it, or can i do both ( considering that most club require 3+ days/week and most fitness programs also require the same amount of days ), and if so how well should i eat and how should i shape my daily schedule , also other than what mentioned, what other martial arts would you reccomend for the most effectiveness?

i'm asking people who had experience with MAs so if you dont't, at least keep shitposting to a minimum

>>
I have some experience with arts and no experience with weights (some with bodyweight, tho)
If you want to conserve your weightlifting mindset, you're best thinking of MAs as cardio. If you're already built a bit, it will contribute to get you slimmer/burn fat. Denfinitely no mass gaining, unless you're just starting. Also, it's lots of fun, if that's waht you enjoy. Much better than jogging for cardio.

By all means take a self-defence class, but be sure they're serious (try http://www.nononsenseselfdefense.com/self-defense.htm for example).
>>
>>756972
how would you recommend balancing training days with lifting days ?
>>
>>756974
No idea, friend. I have never done weights, and only did bodyweight as compliment to MA.
If you can find a place that does 1h classes (as opposed to 1,5h most do) you can probably use that as cardio before weights workout, I guess?

Interleaving wight days with 1,5h MA days will probably leave you exhausted in a matter of weeks. While not building mass, MAs will still train muscles for resistance and explosiveness, and the shit will leave you sore. Probably.

I think it's best I leave this question open for other anons around.

Hey /asp/, I was wondering,
Why is it that MA/ combat sports instructors (generally pretty ripped guys or at least in good condition) make all their students do so much calisthenics when you can read everywhere that weight training is an "easier", more efficient way of improving your strength?
Like, do they want their students to stay average until they actually become pros?
What's your vision on strength and body conditioning in general in regards of what's needed in martial arts?
14 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>756767
Its one of the faults of tradition, sometimes you do stuff that isn't efficient because thats what they did in the old days and they didnt know any better.
It's a case of a guy teaching the way he was taught, because his teacher taught him that way and so on
>>
>>756767
So they can do it in the club without expensive and non idiot proof kit. They assume that the majority of their students won't work out otherwise at home.

Weight training is better by far but sometimes calisthenics can be good too and is obviously easier to train groups in. Also to get results weight training takes as much tutelage and work as the rest of the nights class.
>>
It's also that for most combat sports you need to be loose and not stiff. Using weights in the wrong way (for martial arts or combat sports) will just bulk you and make you slow. Stronger but slow and that's not good for most stand up martial arts
