TKD is derived from Karate to some extent, so obviously there are similarities

But technique-wise, what makes these two styles distinct? Do they essentially all have the same kicks ( roundhouse, sidekicks, crescent kicks, etc)? What about their stances?

The only differences i'm aware of is that some karate styles allow foot sweeps and knees.

>>
if you want to get down to the real meat of the issue the main difference is methodology
in theory tkd is supposed to be 70% kicks 30% punches, but its more like 90:10
karate is really 50/50
>>
>>1115780
Really depends on the style of karate.

For example, shotokan is extremely different from TKD. (Shotokan has a super deep stance, weak kicks, and a very low kick focus compared to TKD)

But other styles that give more attention to kicks have more similarities.

But I would say in general, TKD focuses mainly on kicks, while karate wants punches and strikes to be as powerful and focused on as kicks.

Semi-related.

Can someone give the run down on Goju Karate?

What's its training methodologies like?
What's the blend of conditioning, kata, drills, and sparring?

What's its blend of striking and grappling?
What is its striking like?
What's its grappling like?

Is it worth it for someone with experience in Boxing, American Kickboxing, and Wrestling, to take?

Bork La-a-zer!
Bork La-zer!

Bork La-a-zer!
Bork La-a-zer!
Bork La-a-zer!
Bork La-zer!

but he said no (he thinks he know everything), the lyrics goes like this

Bork La-a-zer!
Bork La-a-zer!
Bork La-a-zer!
Bork La-zer!

Bork La-a-zer!
Bork La-a-zer!
Bork La-a-zer!

I'm a mainly a grappler by training (Judo/BJJ), and I have a little boxing experience, so I don't know much about spinning/flying shit

Are flying knees or spinning moves actually more useful/powerfull than regular kicks, punches, or elbows? Or are they just there to look pretty?

I feel like spinning moves just open you up to being picked off if they go wrong. A good classic example is fedor vs arlovski where fedor drops arlovski as he's flying towards him with a hook to the jaw

<iframe width="854" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TAJvo6LVtGc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Another good recent example is northcutt's tapout that resulted from his failed cartwheel kick

convince me /asp/, why are spinning moves effective?

>>
>Are flying knees or spinning moves actually more useful/powerfull than regular kicks, punches, or elbows?

if done correctly, yes.

however they are riskier than more traditional techniques so its not a good idea to spam them
>>
>>1114124
since you're a grappler ask yourself are flying armbars and flying takedowns useful?

sometimes right depending on the situation

same could be said about flying knees and spinning moves.
>>
>>1115678
Do you have a example of a non pro-wrestling flying takedown?

hello /asp/

what martial art is the best, and why?
34 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1108951

The best martial art for what?

If you are fighting in the jungle with machetes you want to do something differnt than if you are preparing for the UFC.

If you have 5 weeks to show civilists the basics of fighting you would theach them different stuff then if you teach an olympic contender.

If you teach soldiers, bodyguards, doormen.. they all have differnt "rules" under which they apply their martial art. A soldier will have no use for "how to grab a guy with two people fro two sides, so he can't move and you can carry him out". A doorman probably won't use to chops/punches to the throat or neck cranks.

So there's no real answer. But the best "martial art" is an aknowledged standup style in combinations with a grappling style. But no standup style is "invincible" and no grappling style is "invincible". That's why cross training is so important.

What's with the recent hatewagon against this guy? I've seen a lot of people blindly shit on this poorly booked tater tot smuggling samoan, but they shit on everything about this guy. It's like the Cena hatewagon 10 years ago. Whenever they hear about an idea to save Roman Reigns career they instantly shut it down. He's also a major scapegoat. His ring skills aren't nearly as bad as people suggest, and even he has the ability to cut good promos when this exists:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pbS7iCMxn0
Some of the more bitter ones complain about his look, sometimes they point to his "relation" to The Rock, sometimes they'll say he's a bad person in real life.
What is it? What'd he do to make you hate him this much?

Bret Hart said Scott Bigelow was the best "big man" he ever wrestled. That's quite the compliment.

Most are not familiar with Bam Bam's work in the late 1980's. When he and Andre the Giant were selling out Madison Square Garden. Bigelow's popularity grew so fast, Vince had plans to make him the WWE champion.

Injuries and poor booking held him back. What are your thoughts on the "Beast from the East"?

Bam Bam and Andre became the last two survivors, although Andre would win the match. For Bigelow to outlast Hulk Hogan during this era was unheard of.

Imo he blew Vader out of the water, sadly i understand his best work was in outlaWCW and havent seen that much of it

Also im glad that he had more WM MEs than CM Punk and Ric Flair combined, he deserved it

Hey guys it's New-Wu-Style Tai Chi Chuan. I'm switching over to my youtube name because reasons.

Here's the basic info pastebin:

http://pastebin.com/mZhSFCx9

As with the last threat, any questions you've got, I'll answer. Any requests for videos, I'll try and oblige.

Myself:
1 - I've been boxing for about a year now. I started last year because I screwed up my shoulder and was afraid of hurting it doing Aikido. I've wanted to box since I was 18 but lacked the courage go to a gym. I have a friend who went and I decided to tag along.

2 - The gym I go to is apparently a good one. The owner is a former boxer who has guided quite a few prospects to state golden gloves over his 30+ year career as a coach. He was recently joined by an assistant coach who has been boxing since he was 7 and, while he never had a pro fight, he spent a lot of time criss-crossing northern VA going to gyms and wrecking top prospects in sparring matches.

3 - Since I'm older, have a day job, and know my limitations, I know that I'm never going to make it big as a competitor and instead have devoted a lot of time to learning the technical and mental aspects of the game so I can coach.

4 - With that in mind, I'm well aware that I'm not the most knowledgeable person on the sport and still have a LOT to learn, so anything and everything I say is going to come with the addendum of "but I'm still learning, so I might be wrong."

>>
>>1094119
I've never heard of them. They have a legit website vs many of the other brands I haven't heard of. At $30-40 they are either cutting corners or are seriously underpaying their labor because authentic leather (even low quality) and gel inserts usually run about twice that.

I'd be worried about them falling apart really quickly, but for $25 I guess they'd be worth a shot.
>>
>>1094231
I just might buy them if I have some extra money in a few months and they're the same price.
