Planning on getting a baby blue tongue skink, and I see I can get one from an online shop for about $100 less than in any petstore near me, but I'm worried about the thought of what overnight shipping might do to the animal.
Does anybody here have experience? Should I just bite the bullet and spend the extra $100 or wait for a show to come by?

Does that price include shipping? I've never tried it with skinks but my birds cost a fortune to ship.
I'm pretty sure it would go well though considering how little they actually need to stay alive for a night or two.

Yeah, it's about $100 less even with the $40 overnight shipping

Also, I see there's a reptile show in my city on the 26th and 27th. How do prices at shows compare?

Than I say go for it, they're fucking resilient creatures when it comes down to it

They're usually a lot cheaper over there. I got myself a pacman frog for $15 which is really good compared to pet stores. Wait till than and if there still reasonably priced (which they usually are) I'd rather go with them.
Baby BTS are so cute. As for shipping, so long as your shipper follows correct procedure (meaning the seller is responsible) it's safe. I have had several reptiles shipped to me. Usually the way it goes is seller drops lizard at airport cargo late evening and lizard arrives late morning the following day. There are guidelines about acceptable weather/temperature for safe shipping of live animals.

mate, i could pop in the backyard and grab you one for free
I've never understood people saying they'll get an animal from the store or a show to avoid putting them through shipping.
How exactly do you think these animals get to the stores?

Also correct. Unless you're buying directly from a breeder in person, your pet almost certainly has been in shipping at least once.

The idea is that they've already gone through shipping and survived. Nobody wants to pay for an animal only to have it die mid-transit.

I've got my leopard geckos shipped to me and it went just fine. Just wait for the time of year, where the temperature is about right for the animal and make sure it's an shipping service specifically for animals.
