Why does WD40 kill spiders so well? I spray the spiders in my basement with wd40 and they die just a few seconds later. They crawl away for a few seconds, sometimes their legs start to straighten out, and then they just stop moving. Last night one crawled away, but then it sort of stood up and just fell on its face.

you cover their bodies in oil so they cannot breathe

I doubt thats it, spiders have book lungs not spiracles like insects

You fill it's luns with oil dammit
Try inhaling a sustained spray of wd40 ( a whole fucking bottle to compensate for differences in body weight), see how well you breathe afterwards

>their heart is just one giant internal fang
Man, fuck spiders

Arthropods die super quick if you expose them to any solvent. I keep bugs as pets and can't even spray deodorant around them else it'd risk death.
Its b/c their tracheal system soaks their organs etc. in fluid exposed to whatever is in the air they inspire and WD-40 being an organic solvent just fucks with the vulnerable organic components by shredding through cell membranes and stuff as soon as it gets taken into that system.

I've tried spraying them with air freshener and lysol and neither killed them as well as wd40. I don't even think the air freshener did anything but make it smell nice. The wd40 killed them almost instantly.

It says right on the bottle that it "drives out moisture" so it probably desiccated them.
