There are a lot of things to be sad about, it's important to find nice things to balance it out or you'll have a big problem

It's an essential part of life. Some evolutionary paths lead nowhere or aren't quick enough to adapt to environmental shifts. It's been happening since life first appeared and will continue to happen until our little rock gets snuffed.
Think of this, though, the demise of every species frees up space for new possibilities to develop, every major extinction event is followed by a diversity boom.
