can animals willingly commit suicide?

>inb4 Lemmings
it's a myth

>inb4 Whales
it's not willingly

>inb4 monkeys in zoo
I'm talking about animals in natural habitat

>i don't want to believe it so i'll ask if it's possible and diss everything that says it is as vaguely as possible.
Humans and cows do, i think sheep too.

>drowning a bunch of rattos
Fucking awful. How was this even approved?
>>
>>2338512
Monkies killing themselves in a zoo is definitely willing suicide.
If you think otherwise you are literally retarded
>>
>>2338512
I remember reading something about a bear running into a wall after it escaped during a raid on a bile-farm. It also chewed on it's baby's head to kill it before taking it's own life.
>>
>>2338512
I can understand dismissing the first two, but why the latter? That's a definite case of suicide in Animals
>>
>>2338512
>inb4 monkeys in zoos
Is this a thing that actually happens?
>>
>>2338512
Cetacean breathing is purely voluntary, so if they don't want to breathe until they die they won't. Not sure if it counts as suicide as this usually happens when they are very stressed.
>>
>>2338512
1. do animals engage in behaviors that result in their own death?
yes, this happens constantly
2. do animals know these behaviors will kill them and choose to engage in them anyways?
no, don't be silly. Only humans do that.

Wtf is a bile farm?
>>
>>2338996

They harvest bear bile so chinks can get their dicks up.
>>
>>2338512
well humans aren't really in our natural habitat we're all part of an elaborate zoo

Are you kidding me

Im going to tell myself he is no matter what other reality might suggest just because I refuse to live in a world where thats true and I would be forced to accept it. So I wont. Thats just over the line. Ive put up with enough shit lately to have to process that also. Just, no.

"Chinese medicine"

So yeah, basically boner juice. I'm positive that, when the end of the world comes, it will be because of China and their penis problems.

generic Viagra is getting pretty fucking cheap. And it actually works. They'll figure it out eventually.
>>

>They'll figure it out eventually.
haha you wish
>>
>>2339044
Cheap is a negative to these monkeys. They want the expensive bullshit solution because it sets their placebo alight. Coupled with 2000+ years of muh tradishuns and you have TCM.
>>
>>2338570
Are you still talking about OP? Why didn't you reply to him instead?

eradicating the Chinese would solve a lot of problems.

When I left home my cat stopped eating and spent most of her time crying at my room or looking at pictures of me.

There is a dog suicide bridge thats a 40 minute walk from my house. About 50 dogs have jumped off of it to their deaths in as many years.

I take my dog for a walk around the area but keep him on the lead when crossing.
>>
>>2338512
I'm not sure if they see it that way, but I have seen dogs/cats that starve themselves to death when their mate dies.
I had a cat once who spent most of his time with a female cat. After she got hit by a car, my cat wouldn't move, drink or eat at all.
We had to shove food and water in him for a few days.
>>
>>2338512
I don't want to go out on a limb here, but any animal that has a big enough hippocampus and a reward system should be capable of committing suicide.
Catatonia in people can be induced through "learned helplessness" just as well as animals. And while most animals obviously can't make tools to kill themselves, the catatonia alone is sufficient to induce death by starvation

Fortunately nobody is horrible enough to test it, but a re-trial of a learned helplessness test like the Pit Of Despair should produce answers to such a thing.

Are honey bees aware that they will die when they sting?
>>
>>2340156
I wouldn't entirely doubt it. Usually they only sting upon very dire circumstances such as an attack to the hive or if they're held by a predator, whether to ward off a threat or at least teach a surviving assailant that bees=serious pain. Alone, they attempt to fly off first when provoked. Also, when engaging in swarming behavior, they don't react to provocation almost at all.
>>
>>2340156
Is a single honey bee aware that it's alive in the first place? Eusocial animals are a crapshoot.
>>
>>2339042

I always found this really strange

I mean, China's renowned for making counterfeits and knock offs right? Surely there's a cheaper way of making this shit than catching a bunch of fucking bears
