This is the problem with these types of dogs. No one actually knows what they are getting. Is it a guard dog? Is it a friendly dog? Which is it?

Also

Dumb fucking niggers. Also

How are they even deciding which ones will be more expensive? You can flag that as breeding btw, those obviously are not rehoming fees if they get more expensive for the more sought after pups

I've taken care of puppies before, and a litter of 13 cost roughly $20 per pup without shots, vet check or de-wormer.
>>
>>2322809
I'll flag it as breeding, don't really ever use craigslist but I'm sure I can figure out how.

It sucks because shelters are super uptight now because of all the idiots out there. My mother in law got banned from adopting at a shelter because she said it would be an indoor/outdoor dog. You even mention it going outside and they think it's going to be chained to a pole.
>>
>>2322809

Why should it matter you FUCK.. You love a dog regardless of its personality.... It's a dog it has a 100% chance of being better than a person
>>
>>2323037
I think that was mostly aimed at the breeders
>>
>>2322813
Corgis are great dogs! I just feel like with such drastic differences between the breeds, it's pretty clear that this poster hasn't done their research and just wants one of these breeds because they're "meme breeds" like >>2322234 said.
>>
>>2323027
There can be a lot of miscommunication with shelters. I remember having to have a very long conversation with someone to figure out what indoor only meant, and found she was planning on never letting the dog outside and had a spare room for the dog to shit and piss in. Unfortunately you have to be really fucking careful.

>>2323001

I'm always amazed at how irresponsible pit owners are with their animals, quick storytime
>work at a park doing landscaping in college
>some asshole keeps abandoning young pit bulls near a wooded area, usually in groups of 2-3
>animal control is fucking useless, usually park employees (including me) have to round them up and lock them in our tool shed until one of those assholes comes for them
>one day I actually catch the guy in the act, he's literally ushering the dogs out of his van when I drive up
>walking white trash stereotype
>gets angry at me and starts ranting about how it's natural for dogs to live in a forest and releasing them into the woods is more humane than putting them down
The "woods" in this case were like just enough trees that you could wander into the center and not hear any traffic or see any houses.

he was dreadfully thin when i got him, the woman told me she had rescued him from somewhere but i'll always wonder what kind of weird crackhead white trash mom dog ring she was part of, if any

he's a top notch dog now though, minor socialization problems.. otherwise 10/10 , no regrets

still, i'll probably get from a shelter next time because i can afford it and it won't come with weird guiltyish baggage

Yea. I plan to get a dog once I move in June, have one right now and was waiting to get him a companion till the move is all settled. This husky is so sweet tho I'm really tempted. It's $200, all shots completed and comes with that giant kennel. It's really tempting.

My half AmStaff is very gentle with people she knows (takes half a day to get to know someone for her). Never barks, never aggressive, knows when her teeth hits skin when playing (immediately stops, head down, ear down, etc. Normal dog submissive behavior). But the second someone knocks the door or she hears a sound in the backyard, she comes alert and barks. That's a good guard dog for me.

For a while there was a couple posting about their "reptile rescue" asking for donations, unwanted reptiles and supplies. At the bottom of their ad it always said "we do not adopt out animals, all will find their forever home at our rescue." I can understand some animals need special care and wanting to keep them to ensure they get the attention they need but these people just seemed like animal hoarders asking for money. So sketchy.
>>
>>2326381
>Has to go outside
>>
>>2326463
I worked at an animal rescue for a while, the couple who owned and ran the place did the same 'forever home' thing. Another girl was doing the same thing a county over but she shot herself.
Animal rescues like that can and do sometimes turn into hoarding situations. We got some animals from a rescue that had to be shut down because it was so fucked. A lot of the animals there had to be put down because of disease, and the ones we got required a fair amount of vet care. Lady running it just kept taking them in but couldn't afford or take the time to care for them. The place was kind of horrific from what I hear.

My local Craigslist has been having a pissong fest over rat breeders/ratteries. Each one claims the other sucks, sick rats, highly aggressive rats, one is a murderer for culling sick/highly aggressive rats, They eat children, etc. I think there's 3-4 total involved, stemming from a feud between two of them and they've all crossed lineages. Then there's another person posting how they all suck, not-naming anyone but claiming only one tests for diseases like 'Sendai virus and Sialodacryoadenitis virus (aka rat corona virus; SDA.)' and Seoul virus. To be fair they should probably be tested, having had to deal with rat bite fever infected rats before. It's probably going to be even more years before I ever get rats again. Not surprisingly they're all younger 20s women.

Unrelated to rats but pic related. It's not the worst ever. I get that she tried, and perhaps adopted this dog as an adult rather than a puppy but a 'goldendoodle' sounds like a horrible mix to be around small animals or a farm dog even if either line didn't come from hunting stock.

There's also always a constant flow of sugar gliders for rehoming. They're always in a mixed sex harem or male/female pair for hundreds of dollars(but mostly due to selling cage and toys). I've seen over 30 different postings in my area from just checking Craigslist about twice a month when I'm bored. It's how I got my three a few years ago. It's always they just don't want them anymore. I have yet to see anyone have a different excuse like they're moving, allergic, etc.

my idea was that animals should only be freely available. basically it's illegal to make money off of them.

>>2328090
I'm going to be that person here, plz no bully. Shelter dogs tend to cost at least $100 and often do a background check on you. Just because it isnt a pedigree pup who was raised in perfect conditions and has passed every test under the sun with flying colors doesnt mean it isnt a dog that deserves a good loving home

Most families rehoming a dog don't have an understanding of Schutzhund training, let alone practice it correctly. In my experience, when a family like this says they have a "friendly guard dog" it's a dog with terrible social skills beyond immediate family. Pretty sure these families have never had someone kicking down their door, so hard to gage it as a good "guard dog". Probably just incessantly barks at strangers that pass the house.
>>
>>2328399
There is something wrong with buying from Craigslist. You're supporting the bad breeding of dogs that are not always well taken care of. You are sometimes supporting the mass inbreeding of animals so someone can have a cash cow. Just because you aren't breeding the dog you get doesn't mean others aren't and because there are no lineage papers, those are probably getting further inbred and further health issues. Use a proper breeder or adopt. Unless you are a proper breeder with health checks and everything else, don't ever breed
>>
>>2328349
Yeah, but when people don't want to buy from shelters it's usually because they are doing something bad, like you did. I'll be honest, if I gave half a shit about my animal, I would not give it to someone who isn't allowed or may not be allowed to actually have it.

At least she was honest, and seems to be have been responsible enough to know when to admit her limitations. It's really a much better way for things to go down vs the owner making up a ton of obvious bullshit so the potential adopter doesn't know what they'll be dealing with, or worse, the owner just keeping the animal and mistreating it.

She's a good dog. She's been mauled by my Chow mix about a dozen times now, thanks to her loose skin she never takes any physical damage. She also has never bit or fought back, she just screams bloody murder and hides behind me. She doesn't chew since she got her adult teeth, and she's the only dog I have who doesn't beg for food. She's also helped chase a young bear out of our trash with the Chow mix. She is currently 9 months old. She keeps getting more tan in her as she ages though, and she pisses like a race horse.

Where the fuck do you live? I always paid a minimum $100 rehoming fee + vet cost for any shots+ neutering. Then they wouldn't even use my own vet. Shelters are as much a business as backyard breeding. After my last experience with shelters I'm off them completely.

Asked him if dog was good around other dogs and he said he didn't know. Asked to meet up at dog park to introduce it to my dog, said he didn't want to take the time to do that, just want to get rid of it. Ask if I can come bring my dog to his house and do a test run. Says that he thinks the pup might not do well with that. Ask if the price is firm, since I would need to take it to training for socialization rehabilitation. Says it will probably not need that. Ask again if I can come over with my dog, see if they get along. Starts cussing and saying I'm wasting his time and he's just going to give it to his cousin cause their kids want it.

Didn't know this was a YLYL thread

>outlaw breeders

Yeah, great idea. Outlaw the continuation of pure breeds. Outlaw high-quality breeds.

It's the consumer's responsibility to choose a breeder who has a good reputation for furthering a breed with health in mind. Why should we be denied the chance to buy a high quality, purebred dog because of abandoned animals? They're there because of irresponsible pet owners.

>but there wouldn't be a surplus of abandoned dogs without breeders!

Supply and demand. Meanwhile, once the breeders are gone and all the breeds of dogs are old, dwindling, and soon to be gone, there are only mutts being bred with little quality control.

If you really want to help dogs make it harder for people to own them.

>free animals

The dumbest idea on here in regards to helping those dogs at shelters. Most are not free from shelters. The dogs that are free are also free to go to any person unwilling to invest money in the animal.

If you really want to prevent dogs from going to shelters, make it harder to obtain them and breed them.

>Higher priced dogs
>license for breeding

Except controls like licensed breeding doesn't work either- be prepared for unlicensed breeding with culled puppies to avoid fees. Higher priced dogs with public support for superior, licensed breeders is the best way to go- it won't solve everything, but it will help. Maybe start a campaign against the continuation of unhealthy breeds bred for their retarded looks- like the pug, if you really want to be a dog activist.

And this is what I mean by buying from responsible, high-quality breeders and discouraging dogs from being bred for retarded looks.

German Shepards are great dogs if you buy from licensed breeders who breed working line Shepards. They won't have the sloping back, and they'll be bred with health in mind. The show lines used to be just as great until the sloping back was introduced by people influential in the show business. Now the sloping back wins in the shows due to politics, even though it is not in the breed standards.

Show lines do have more of a pronounced slope for the purpose of showing, but the slope is evident even in German working lines. Yes I concede the American Show standard is detrimental to the dogs health, but a angular slope is a part of the breed. It allows the dog to take off faster, allowing it to cover more ground which is important when tending a large flock.

It can hurt their feet as well as keeping them from being able to access and eat their poop. Rabbits have 2 types of poop, one that is waste and the other is partially digested that needs a second go-through. If they can't eat that second type of poop they can get malnourished

True that.
Which reminds me, we found one of our dogs as a puppy around the holiday cottages next to our village, chucked into a ditch in a bag.
Poor pup nearly suffocated there and was obviously mistreated. Grew up to be the most playful dog we've ever had but he hated children outside our family until his final days and would just curl up and cry if you even tried to put a leash on him.
Pisses me right off.

Which ones? The ones that get animals they have no intention of taking care of once those kids get bored? The ones that support the bad breeding of animals that lead to extreme health issues that are basically torture? The ones that try and get pets they can't afford, feed them bad food if at all, then let them rot to death or dump them when they inevitably need vet care? Which of these aren't bad because at least their kids are happy?
>>
>>2333616
As if a kid can even really understand and appreciate the concept of pet ownership. If you want to make your kids happy then buy them candy or a video game. Something inconsequential and okay to just toss aside.

their intentions are good though, they just arent taught by society hoe to care for animals. none of them seem to be torturous conditions, those are the dog fighters that do that
