Can't we just harvest eggs and sperm from Pandas and grow them artificially? Maybe even edit their genes so they are more fertile or willing to have sex? I feel like that's a better use of resources then dumping money into panda porn

Pandas are extremely efficiently evolved. While other bears have to hibernate, struggle to hunt, get their babies eaten by other bears and find food or risk starvation pandas were sitting on top of the food chain eating like royalty. Adults have no natural predators and at worst, they have to actully have to get up to move to more bamboo. They hardly bother with fighting for territory so they don't even have to deal with that. For millions of years they evolved in an unchallenged, large habitat with an endless food source and they're masters in that niche.
The only reason why they became endangered is because of deforestation. The pandas home range used to be way bigger and now it's limited to only a few, small spots. They thrive and reproduce perfectly fine in the wild. Plenty of animals don't breed or are extremely difficult to breed in captivity because we don't know enough of about them. It's gotten a ton better for pandas breeding in captivity now because we learned how to take care of them better.

The preserves that China set aside for pandas are quickly becoming the last hope and bastion for pretty much every other wild species in China as well. Do you honestly think the Chinese give a shit about any other species and are ever going to try to save them?
