A nice bacterial infection known as popeye, but one that got out of hand. His friend probably ate his eyes out at a certain point to. Fun stuff.

What are the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels in the pond?

Water pollution should be reckoned the main cause of fish disease. Water always has germs in it, and it's common sense not to contaminate the water with more pathogens on purpose, but fish can fight off infections very well as long as the water is clean.

If the water is dirty with ammonia, nitrite, or (lots of) nitrate, it compromises basically all the fish's body functions and makes it a sitting duck for viruses and bacteria and fungus.

No, it's light orange. The hue is 17 points too low to be a shade of yellow.
>>
>>2317483
That's not it.

OP said it's at a botanical garden, I don't think he's allowed to test the water there. Or allowed to do anything about the fish's health at all.

Poor fish :(
