Does anyone know any freshwater puffer fish which grow to be fairly large and can be kept in an aquarium (not a MBU) puffer .If so what is there usual max size?
Why not a mbu?

Tetraodon mbu can get over 60cm big, but obviously they need gigantic tanks. T. fahaka gets a bit smaller at around 40cm, but still massive.
Tetraodon leiurus/nigroviridis reach a decent size of about 12-16 cm.

fahaka? I haven't seen one in a store in a long time though. I see a ton of mbus though.

If you are willing to do brackish a figure 8 puffer would work well.
