Wildlife enthusiast and zookeeper by career here.
I am trying to plan a 10 day trip abroad to Greece (from California) and was hoping /an/ would be able to give me some insight into the opportunities involving wildlife/nature while I am there. I know there are a lot of anthropological historical sights, and I'm planning on seeing those, but I am looking for a more dynamic experience.

Cats, cats, cats, cats.
I honestly think you'll be hard pressed to find even a native rodent around there. Greece is well known for it's feral cat epidemic.

It's a heavily mountainous region and you're mainly gonna see goats, sheep, cows and animals that can thrive in Mountains. Honestly people don't go to Greece for the wild life, mainly the ruins and other stuff like that.

What time of year and what area are you visiting?
I can think of a few things you might want to see such as

I have time off in October. Lonely Planet indicates it is a good time to go by of cheaper prices during the peak seasons. And the other, wildlife abundant areas that I'd like to see, in SE Asia and S Africa are in the throws of their wet/monsoon seasons, and much of the wildlife is harder to see.
