small dogs might be alright but I wouldn't get a large or mid-large size dog unless you live in the country or have a huge yard in sub urbia

get an adult dog with a calm demeanor from a kill shelter.

my dog is fine 12+ hours a day if it comes to it

dogs don't understand the passage of time the way we do. my dog reacts the same way when i get home no matter i'm gone 15 minutes or 5 days

That is just part of owning a dog in today's world. What do you do? Pay 1000 dollars a month for a walker or doggy day care? Keep it at home alone 8 to 10 hours a day? Get a job at a dog friendly company? Live off of neetbux so you can just stay at home all day with a dog?

If you want to own a dog in today's world,. you really only have so many options. Pick one that works out best for you and go for it. I am lucky and have a dog friendly office. But I had dogs before I had that job, and I would just leave them alone for 4-5 hours and let them out during my lunch break, but sometimes they were alone for 9 hours.

It sucks, but they will live. As another anon mentioned, time passes differently for a dog, and anything more than 10 or 15 minutes might as well be 24 hours for most dogs. As long as you spend lots and lots of time with them when you get home, and dedicate your weekend to them, I do not see the issue in letting them chill alone during the workweek.

You could get a senior dog that does not need much exercise. But no one wants a senior dog.

A 9-5 job isn't a deal breaker for most adult dogs. What will be a deal breaker though is not getting enough stimulation before work.

If you leave it alone all day, then come home only to ignore it to play video games and jerk off to porn for the rest of the night, then that's neglect. Leaving a dog alone all day and coming home and giving it lots of exercise, training, attention, and love is perfectly fine.
