Hello /an/, /k/ here looking at getting a Nile monitor this isn't my first time with lizards or dangerous animals and i was wondering if y'all could give me advice on caring for them and what to look out for. Any help is welcomed thank you!
no you're being dumb
Why something so big? There are other monitors and lizards with similar personality but smaller, not nearly so expensive to house and feed. Niles are also semi-aquatic and require a large water feature in their enclosure. Amd arboreal too, so housing has to be pretty tall.
This is really not a practical animal to keep in a house.

I'm guessing he wants to use it as a guard lizard for when the gun grabbers come.
Pretty good idea if his state doesn't allow crocodilians, but a stupid endeavor regardless.
OP if your lizard wont attack you then it wont attack intruders, and despite having scales it's not bullet proof unless it's a croc or gator.
I don't think there's a single gun defense pet you can own without some sort of wildlife permit or some shit that is better than a dog. And we know how that goes.
Oh, and if it's not for the obvious, then as linked post said, there are much better monitor lizards out there.
