I've read a lot of alarming stuff about how eating any amount of onion or garlic will totally obliterate a cat. But I've been around and had cats since I was born, and they've all consumed some amount of onion and the like without any visible ill effects, and lived long, healthy lives. The stuff I've found online ranges from "any onion will kill your cat on the spot" to "don't worry about it lol", but I haven't found any legitimate-looking sites with information on it, nor any actual scientific metabolic information on the supposed effects. So what's the real story here?

I'm not an expert but I believe it's toxic to them. In small amounts they should be to handle it.
Why are you feeding onions to cats though, op? I don't prefer cats either but I wouldn't actively poison them in any quantity.
They are poisonous to cats, but it's not like one nibble of garlic and they are dead. It's usually more a concern if they cat somehow got into onions/garlic powder and consumed a ton.

I've fed sauteed onions, just a few bits, once. No ill effect that I noticed.
This seems like the appropriate thread, my cat ate two raisins, I know it can cause kidney failure but i've heard some cats are not affected by it. What are the chances my kitten's gonna be okay?
