What have been your biggest pet keeping sins, my brothers and sisters? Let loose your misdeeds of the past here, free of judgement.

To get the ball rolling, I will start. When I was in early middle school, my mom gave me some money to get crickets for my leopard gecko (which I admittedly didn't take good care of, either) and I came out with a $10 Pacu. I fucking kept that poor bastard in a plastic tote halfway filled with water, no filter, nothing, just plain bathwater. It lived in there until I got it a 10 gallon octagon tank with a filter from a yard sale. It lived in there with a plecostimus that I bought for like a year, until the power went out and the lack of filtration killed it, I assume. I fed it floating pellets and goddamn tadpoles.

Knowing now what it takes to care for any fish, I fucking hate myself for doing that to those poor animals. I would probably slap somebody if I heard they did that today.
>>

>I would probably slap somebody if I heard they did that today.
Just delicately inform them that the animals require more. Offer to help if you have to. No need to be snotty or rude off the bat, they aren't being neglectful on purpose.
>>
during my elementary-freshman high years I kept 4 turtles 2 catfish and a crawfish all wild caught in my 40 gallon
Besides the overcrowding the filter sucked so i was doing 100% water changes every week or two. They didnt have a uvb bulb or a basking bulb but I brought them outside to bask for 2 hours everyday. The biggest sin is probably what I fed them. Popcorn, lettuce, cheerios, bologna.hotdogs among some of the worse things, they did get minnows and tadpoles I'd go out and catch from the same canal I caught them all in though. I had them for 8 years and nothing died on me, only reason I lost them is because my mom found porn on my laptop when I was 16 and sent me to my hyper christians brothers house for 3 months as punishment. She didnt want to clean the tank and it got really dirty fairly quick so she sold the entire set up for$20(water heater, pump driftwood decorations 40gall tank) that she bought some dope with.

I dont remember what I exactly did when I came home but I went apeshit on the furniture with some shitty pawnshop sword and probably wouldve have tried to kill her if she was there.
>>
A caught a tadpole in the wild and put him in a fishbowl as a kid. 3 years, and he never grew into a frog. I couldn't find on the internet what I was doing wrong.

You should be more ashamed of being white trash than anything about your pets.

>>

Of course I wouldn't slap them for real. However my initial reaction would feel to me like a reaction that might cause one to slap somebody would. I would talk to them and hope they'd listen, my friend
>>
To be fair, a lot of children are shitty pet owners.

I kept a lot of fish in my day, one of the first being a bunch of small fish caught in a stream and kept in the bottle I caught them in when I was like 10. Fed them nothing but bread, didn't change the water, and nothing else because it was a fucking plastic bottle. They all died within 2 days.
From then, had a real 20 gallon tank with a filter, heater and the works. Kept a large variety of fish throughout the years but didn't really maintain it well such as water changes and such, the filter and tank was cleaned every month or so though but did clean out all the filter media so killing off the beneficial bacteria. As a result, a lot of fish came and went over the years, the longest being a lone Skirt Tetra that lived for 6 years on it's own.
Eventually got a a turtle during that time, slapped the turtle in the tank when the fish finally croaked by itself (the turtle was kept in a small plastic tank that is marketed for a betta)

To this day I still have that turtle and wised the fuck up by then. It's 11 years old and lives in a 90 gal now (it's an 8" turtle) with all the works, including regular water changes and shit. The dumbass in me wants to keep a fish population with the turtle though, knowing she'll eat them anyway
>>
I poured a can of sprite into my step dad's fish tank, killing all of them.
>>
My friend and I used toads from his half empty pool for pitching practice against the concrete walls. We used his dads cattle prod to reanimate them even as we cut into them with a butter knife. I shot a bird with a pellet gun, but didn't kill him. I only had bb's and everytime I tried to shoot him on the ground the bb's would roll out of the barrel. The bird kept chirping like mad so I finally picked him up and walked over to a bonfire near camp and tossed him in. A different friend and I bought goldfish at the mall while we were high and put them in an unused aquarium filled with water and drano. The fish did the backstroke while blood came out of his gills.

Threw dirt chunks at baby birds once. I was like 4.
Threw salt in my first cats face, wasn't as funny when I found out cats can't laugh. I fucking loved that cat. I was 5. Had him until I was 13.
Had two lizards, moved into new house, left them in glass habitat in my heated room mid summer with no food or water. I was 9.
Threw a large pebble at a small dog that lived behind me once. I fucking hated that dog. I was 13.
Tried killing a baby bird that fell out of its nest. They are fucking tough though.
Threw my then gf's kitten off the bed for biting my lip while I was eating. Wouldn't have been so bad if her floor wasn't dirty...
Latest was me throwing my shorts in this cats face that had piss-ruined one of my favorite pair of shorts only to find out the responsibility of cleaning his litter box unexpectedly became mine so I had to make up for being the piss-head. He would sit with me on the porch for hours on end and walk to the store up the street with me when feeding him became my responsibility at times.

I bought a cat from a pet store. She was a manx. It turned out her anus would prolapse because her spine was so short. My boyfriend and I had the option of either putting her down or paying for a surgery neither of us could afford that would leave her in pain for the rest of her life. They would have put a ring in her, creating an artificial anus. We had her euthanized because we were poor and worried she'd be in pain. I wish I could have asked the cat whether she would want to live in pain or want to die. What if she wouldn't actually have lived in pain? What if she would have been comfortable? I wish I could have gotten her the surgery and then asked her how she felt, if surgery was what she had wanted. I wasn't in the room with her when she died. She was such a good cat. She was very muscular and would sleep on the top of my head like a hat. I only knew her for a few weeks. I don't even have any pictures of her. I'm so sorry Dina.

This isn't something I did to my own pet, but something that haunts me none-the-less.
To give context, I was deeply depressed, with no real support network besides sparse visits every fortnight from my mother.
My one joy were the family pets: 3 ducks, 2 chickens and 4 rabbits.

Most of my daily energy was spent tending to the pets and doing household chores, the rest was generally crying and self-hating.

Now for greentext:
>live in the mountains
>suddenly one day, fucking hail the size of cricketballs
>some are BIGGER than cricket balls
>the neighbourhood had windows smashed, countless cars dented, etc

>most pets are thankfully unharmed, only one chicken didn't make it back at night.
>fear the worst, but wait until morning to search for her
>in the morning, I think the missing chicken's stiff body
>there's a dead sulphur crested cockatoo as well
>fuck me, my dad loves cockatoos

>dig a grave for the chook and bury her, then dig one for the cockatoo
>I pick up the cockatoo in my arms
>it starts squirming and flapping

The cockatoo's eye was swollen, red and it looked like it copped a hailstone right in the face. All it could do was flap and squirm.

>can't deal with the stress of calling someone up to help the bird
>leave it outside for the whole day and the following night, beside its open grave
>come out in the morning, the bird is not only still alive
>it's standing up
>and there's a flock of cockatoos swooping and calling to it
>nope.jpg

This went on for two, maybe three days. I just couldn't deal with the responsibility of helping the bird; I could barely take care of myself, as it was.
In the end, my terror of my dad, and what he might do if he found out I had left the bird out there, made me bury it alive.

I can still see it squirming as I piled the dirt on it. It's easily the single act I'm most ashamed of in my life.

We got a Doberman puppy when I was a kid and we fucked up raising it and eventually had to get it put down because it was so aggresive to strangers. I still feel bad about that and with my own dogs I have employed proffesional behavourist to ensure I can give my dogs a stable calm enviroment to thrive in.

>>
>>2143116
Look, I can understand why you'd opt to kill it rather than help it considering the circumstances, but why the hell wouldn't you put the poor thing out of its misery first? Bird necks break like fucking twigs, or hell, just smash its head in with a rock.
>>
>>2143160
I did consider using the shovel to kill it, but I didn't have the willpower to do so. My mind was too muddled with grief and panic to consider any other way of ending its life.

Burying it was a spur-of-the-moment decision, and afterwards I ran, hid and cried. I feel like the event would haunt me more if I had killed it first, as well.

About a decade ago, my druggie older sister and her boyfriend got a young male cat when they were living together. When their relationship went sour, my sister brought the cat back to live with my folks and I in our basement. My family already had two older cats that hated other animals, so he was confined to my sister's room on the bottom level.

Sister would go out for days or weeks at a time to get drunk or high on meth. I'd go down to refill his food sometimes - he'd follow me around crying in excitement - but a lot of the time he was just alone down there. The basement was furnished but only had one window, one of the types at the bottom of a climb-in pit that hardly allows any light in. I guess I didn't like being down there, didn't like being around my sister or anything associated with her, though I did like the cat. Those were bad years for me in terms of depression and I don't even remember how long this went on.

One day my sister took him up to a cabin with her and when she came back, he had lost a lot of weight. I took him to the vet and he was diagnosed with cardiovascular myopathy at only 4-5 years old; the vet gave him two years to live, tops. My mom and I got him on all the medications available but two weeks later, I went down to give him his morning pills and he was unconscious, gasping out his last breaths. I hope he was asleep when it hit.

His last two weeks were nice. My sister was in rehab by then, but my mom and I gave him a lot of attention and nice food trying to get him to eat. One time we took him out in the backyard when my dad was grilling and he got to roll on the cement in the sunshine. I hope it made up in some small way for all the time I just stood by while he was being neglected.

I don't know what was wrong with me. It kills me to think he died down there in the dark, alone.

I was living in a grubby, no rules type of share-house with a couple of friends and we all ended up moving out around the same time. Because the place was a mess and we wanted our bond back there was literally an entire week spent mopping, scrubbing, cleaning and gardening to recoup our measly $400. Whatever, we were broke.

As it was a proper house in a nice suburb we had a fairly sizeable backyard that had received exactly zero hours of attention since I had initially moved in 2.5 years ago. It belonged more to the animals than us and had its own fully developed ecosystem that grew around the side path, over our "lawn furniture" (discarded couches and milk crates we had hauled in off the street). It was going to be a hell of a job.

I was on "rake out all the excess green waste" duty which basically meant try to get the ground under the trees back to the same heigh as the rest of the yard. I started in the far back corner and happened across a giant bush-turkey mound.

My and my house-mates had a few beers each morning before we started our cleaning blitz because we were on holidays and everything is more bearable when you're drunk, so I can kinda blame my actions on that. But it was still stupid.

I started laying into the turkey mound with my metal rake as it was the largest amount of waste to go and I was determined to do a damn good job of clearing the shit away. About 2 minutes into overhead swinging and raking out I hear a large pop.

>(cont)

>>2142707
Why not guppies? You can give a lot of hiding spots for guppies, and since they breed like rabbits, a few every now and then can become a little extra protein snack for your turtle.
>>
>>2143228
>2

I bent down to investigate and noticed a little trickle of liquid, so I cleared the surrounding dirt away, and of course, totally unsurprisingly, found a busted egg. I felt kinda bad, but not really because hey, I break eggs all the time and support abortion before the 2nd trimester. No biggy.

I continue to swing, wiggle, pull. disperse, dirt off of the giant mound and it isn't too long before I hear another pop. I ignore it because I know what it is. Work work work. Third pop. Heh heh, kinda funny sound. Except wait, there's blood in this one. This is a bit too real but I push it to the back of my head and continue my work. It's only a dumb scrub-turkey after all

Third pop. The blood is impossible to ignore now, the embryonic fluid doesn't trickle like liquid, it slides down the pile in a dark browny/reddy plop, decidedly more solid. I now feel awful but figure I'm too far in to stop so I grit my teeth and resume raking, double time.

Fourth pop. I scrape dirt over where the pop came from before I get the chance to see what oozes out. Fifth pop, about halfway through the pile now, same as before I quickly try to rake it away but there's a fucking shape there. I reflexively flick it behind me and see a little dark bird shaped thing flopping around on the ground.

I bashed it repeatedly with the rake until it stopped flopping and went back upstairs to tell my friends. The mother turkey came back later and was scratching around where I left her foetus corpse. I felt so bad. I hope there were more eggs. Worst part is she ended up piling all the shit back on top of the mound so my work was futile anyway. Still makes me sick to think about. I'm sorry for the rant....

When I was young I had 2 guinea pigs that I would take down the slide with me. Then I would wonder afterwards why their feet were all red. From there, as one guinea pig would die I would replace it with another so the survivor could have a friend until I got to the last one when I was about 17-18 and I let her die of bloat because I was depressed.

While I was depressed I had an elderly dog I was trying to take care of but ultimately neglected because >depressed. He died a week after the guinea pig did.

I took a cocoon in once because I was young and dumb and didn't think it would last through winter. I kept it secured in a tiny box until one day, it hatched. But the box was too small so it permanently fucked his wings up. So I had to take care of mothzilla until he died. But I think I got tired of caring for him or my mother ordered me to put him outside. My memory is blurry on that.

When I was really young I was trying to get a dumb little girl in trouble and saw her trying to get into a chipmunk cage. She was too dumb to lift the brick on top so I said 'be careful with that cage, if you take the brick off, the chipmunk will get loose!' and walked away. As expected, she did what I told her not to do. However, I didn't think she would drop the brick on it once the chipmunk did begin to escape. Never trust idiots to follow a plan.

That's all I can think of right now

I didn't cry when my dog died.

I cried four years earlier as I contemplated his inevitable death in front of him. He realised something was wrong with me and tried to comfort me, but there was nothing physically there so all he could do was whimper and snuggle up to me. The way dogs can read human emotions is amazing.

He wagged his tail when the vet came in to give him the injection.

Some of you are fucked up

I caught a baby bullhead and put it in a 5 gallon with neon pink gravel and an airstone. Had a cave and fed it bloodworms and feeder fish

After a while he was getting big and I decided it was cruel so I wanted to put him back. When I netted him his fin got stuck in the net and it got damaged. He was in a plastic bag filled with water for the whole 3 hour ride to the lake, when I got there he had red patches on him from ammonia poisoning/lack of oxygen or something. Hope he's alive still

>Brilliant idea, I'll step on his leash to stop him

>Could have broken dog's neck, probably badly injured his windpipe
>He stands there, stiff, trying to breathe and just making some choking, snorting, wheezing sounds
>Kneel in the middle of the street crying how sorry I am, what did I just do, etc

He lived a few more years. My childhood dog was not treated well. My family is the type who treats dogs more as accessories. I work hard to treat my dog well and give him the best care I can to atone for the shitty care of my childhood pet, but I know I'm going to answer for this incident someday.

About 10 years ago my cat kept climbing on the garage so he could walk to my bedroom window. He always did this at around 3 am while I was sleeping. It was cute at first, but I already had sleeping problems and it was making me really tired after a while. One day he did it again, and I threw some water on him out of anger/tiredness so he would not do it again, but instead he just walked away for good.

About a half year ago another cat fell through the ice in my backyard and died, and I'm pretty sure it never would've happened if I wasn't playing games with my friends with my headset on. The last thing he did was probably scratching on my door without a response.

And today another cat has disappeared. He was super lazy and never really wondered, but he's been gone for like 16 hours now. He was only like 5 months old as well.

I really hope nothing's happened to him...

When I was around 12 years old I saw a robin's nest in a tree and wanted to look at it. I used a stick to push it out of the tree. 2 birds fell out. I tried feeding them but they died a few days later.

And a few years ago I was digging a border for my garden and didn't notice a patch of dry grass. I dug down and heard loud squealing. I dug into a rabbit nest. One rabbit was severely cut up. It died in 10 minutes. I painted a rock and placed it over its grave. The sound of it crying out still haunts me...

When I was about 7 or 8, I was retarded and thought that you had to pick a side in the "cats vs dogs" debate. My favorite cartoon character was a dog, and he hated cats. So, because I was an autist obsessed with a fictional dog who was staunchly anti-cat, I became something of a 7 year old Dog Nazi and would hit the family cat with a rake. One day she started crying when I did it and I realized what I was doing was totally fucked up. Whenever I think about it today, I get really sad because I would never ever want to cause a cat pain. When I was a kid I had a cockatiel. Sweetest littler thing ever, she loved me, and I loved her.
We didn't clip her wings because she was toilet trained for her cage and we let her fly around the living room freely whenever someone was there to be with her.

But I was a kid, and stupid. I saw her looking outside and thought I'd take her out and let her "see her habitat". I did and I was holding onto her a little but not nearly enough.

A car drop by, she slipped from my hands, and flew, and circled higher and higher and higher until she disappeared.

I was out all night with her cage, bawling like a baby, calling for her, listening for her in the trees. The next day at school I made an announcement on the PA with a color description, her name, and her species. All the other kids started teasing me about how I was "looking for my 11-inch cock".

Fuck them, I was heartbroken and I would've done anything to make it right. I doubt she was found, she was probably either eaten by a hawk, or she starved to death. So much fucking regret. She'd be old, but I'd still have her now if I hadn't done that.

My question is: why?
>>
When I was 14-17, I had a cat named Basket. She had been dropped off at the shelter in a basket with her kittens, thus the name. I fucking loved that cat.

But I was very depressed at the time. The whole reason I got her was because my parents were going through a divorce and my mom felt sorry for us so she let me get a cat, and my sister got a dog (a white toy poodle from the same shelter that we named Daisy).

We really couldn't afford to have any pets. Daisy was never taken to a groomer while we had her. My mom would just use scissors to trim her, and my sister would occasionally brush her. We never once took either one of them to the vet.

I hardly ever cleaned Basket's litter box. I remember easily going two, sometimes three weeks between scooping out the poop. Plus, we ended up moving twice with her in that three year span. Eventually, after the second move, she stopped leaving her litter box altogether and would just sleep there.

We moved again a year later but couldn't take the animals, so Daisy was given to a sweet old couple that would give her the life she fucking deserved. However, we couldn't find anyone who would take Basket (no local shelter would accept anymore cats, and no one wanted her), so we just left her to live in the woods (which she had come to like there at the end).

I still feel awful.

Yes. Much better.

To stay on topic, here's a couple of things my elder brother did when he was an edgy teen going to high-school via train on the rough side of town:

>kicked a small dog in the gut with his steel-capped boots
>it'd been annoying him for weeks on end, yapping at his heels to and from the train station
>one day he had enough and kicked it hard
>it feel down and never got back up.

When he got back in the afternoon, the body was gone. Still never sure whether he killed it or not by doing that.

And second:
>another dog that would follow him for ages, being aggressive and shitty.
>this one he lured with him to the train station
>coaxed it on board, then moved to another carriage
>presumably this poor dog got carried all the way into the city

He'd never do stuff like that now: his high school was a shit fest, and he tends to react to stress by lashing out with anger.

OP here, I have a few more shitty things I've done to animals that I guess I'll get off my chest. Although most of mine where done with good intentions.

I've had 2 leopard geckos in the past, and I never took very good care of them. For whatever reason, I thought that since they could survive for a long time without food that I only had to feed them when I felt like it.

My first leo was Geico, she was a birthday present from my aunt. I only fed that poor thing like MAYBE 2 times a month, which was especially bad since she was just a baby (came from a pet store). I fed her a whole cicada once and I recall it's carapace bring visibly stuck in her gut for weeks. I remember she stopped eating before she died, so I force-fed her these spongy fruit bites that I now presume were meant for arboreal geckos. I adored that lizard but unintentionally took super shitty care of her.

The second was Skippy. Geico I had in elementary school, but Skippy I had through late middle school-early high school. I took slightly better care of him, but he still only lived for like a year and a half. I didn't feed him very much until I found out they needed fed more often, so I got mealworms and calcium dust and vitamin dust, and started feeding him every other day. This went on for about a week, until one day his tail got all dried up and hard at the end and he wouldn't move, he could barely open his eyes. He died over night and I still have no idea what was up with him.

Today I have a leo that I take excellent care of. Thermostat on the heating pad, ideal humidity/temperature readings, humid hides, and she gets fed every other day with properly dusted feeders. She's big, fat, and very tame and I hope I'm making up for my past transgressions by taking good care of this gecko.

Pic related is her

i have a serious unhealthy attachment to my cat
i've had her for 15 years (got her when i was 3) and she's been with me through divorces, abuse, etc. at one point i was a complete shut in and she was my only friend and that lasted four years
i will not go anywhere without her, i try to avoid flying because it stresses her out but if i absolutely have to then i bring her along because i trust no one to watch her except one woman who's out of town atm
my biggest regret is getting her because i've limited myself so much just to keep her safe and comfortable
today i'm visiting family and she got loose and i straight up had a mental breakdown
>ran around desperately looking for her in the front + backyard
>worried because i'm surrounded by woods so she could be everywhere
>alerted neighbors
>sobbing and questioning god's motives
>called 2 family members i'm staying with and yelled at them
>checked the inside of the house, ran through poison ivy, went everywhere atleast 5 times
i now have cuts all over my leg, a possible rash on my foot, and i'm drenched in sweat
>cat walks into the house few minutes later
this all lasted about an hour
i like to think i'm a good pet owner, she gets monthly visits to the vet and i spend a lot of money getting her the highest quality food, etc. i'm just so fucking exhausted because i'm so attached to her. i want off this ride.

When I was a toddler I used to pick up our fish and pet them so hard that they died. After petting them to death, I'd put them back in their tank. My mom thought it was some sort of disease from the pet store which would make the fish explode, but she continued to buy new fish and I kept on petting them to death.

I also once had a hamster, when I was around 7 or 8. I forgot about it and it starved to death.

I still feel bad about it.

i want her to die happy of old age peacefully. i'll probably get her cremated and keep her with me in a vase.
>>
>>2145226
Why is it going to the vet monthly?
>>
>>2145465
just check ups/get her nails clipped, sometimes its once every 2 months
since she's older they grow faster and if i don't then she'll often get her nails stuck on random shit
i also keep her indoors because we have many strays wandering around because our old neighbor just adopted kittens then threw them out when they got older + i live near an intersection so its just safer
i do let her out in the backyard (supervised) and when she's done she walks back in herself
i hope i'm doing a good job

I took very bad care of pet mice and finches and a budgie a few years ago (around 17). I just stopped caring about them especially when the male and female mice were accidentally mixed and everything started getting inbred. Their cage got very bad.
The budgie died because I forgot to feed it and the finches were the same way I believe.

I think I am just very bad around animals that don't love/can't love me or are too shy. I took far better care with my rats and lorikeet.

Letting my dog lick my nuts while I was jerking off. I jerked it off, so it'd be fair. Only did it once, but god damn, does it haunt me to this day. Horny teenagers are the worst.
>>
>>2143116

I think that actually isn't as bad as some other things. Most horrible things people have confessed are done out of malice or out of ignorance.

Yours is more out of, without a better word for it, weakness. You still knew that the bird needed to be helped, but you couldn't due to your weakness/cowardice.

Hope you've grown from it.
>>
>>2145831

Indeed, I have grown from it immensely. More or less recovered from my depression now.
My initial story was more-or-less when I had hit rock-bottom.

And I would agree that it is weakness that made me kill the bird: to the point where I did not have the integrity to at least kill it in a humane fashion.
It's a low which I staunchly refuse to sink to again.
>>
>>2145915
Guess what. That weakness is not part of you anymore. Be proud. I'm proud that you accepted your weakness and grew from it.

I dont understand why, but I'm in love with spiders and tarantulas. I don't mean i am just interested in them as a hobby. I feel a strange attraction to them. Kindred feelings. I feel a warmth from them. I want to spend time with them. They are so unaware of my existence and i just want to be acknowledged. I'm too overweight to ride horses. I lie about my weight and ride them anyway.
>>
>>2146488
What do you weigh? How big are the horses you're riding?
>>
>>2146495
275 lbs last time I actually stepped on the scale, but that's starting to come down. The horses I ride are around 15hh. I don't ride for longer than 10-15 minutes at a time, or if it's too hot out, etc. I'm also an experienced rider so I don't flop around on their backs, but I know that's not much of an excuse. I feel kinda guilty about it but I just can't stay out of the saddle. None of them have ever been sore after a ride or had any lameness issues and I've been riding them at this weight for around a year. They're also /fit/ so they're used to hard work. If any of them get sore even once from me riding them I'll quit riding altogether until I drop some weight, but at the moment I don't feel like I'm hurting them, just probably making them more uncomfortable than they'd like a couple times a week, which they can get over for the amount of money I spend keeping them well cared for.
>>
>>2146514
If you're an experienced rider and not working them too hard that's honestly not that bad. You seem to be taking reasonable precautions, and mentioned you're losing weight, so don't lose too much sleep, Anon. They could have it far worse.

I probably could have killed him, choking him like that. I was in/about to be in high school, I should have made the connection that stepping on his leash would snap his neck back and hurt him. But I didn't until it happen.

That was just the worst thing I could think of. There were other things that one could chalk up to the fact that my parents expected me to train a puppy at 5 years old, and I never really knew how to take care of a dog properly until I got my own as an adult many, many years later. My childhood dog didn't live a shitty life, but he didn't live a particularly good one, either.

I was heading out with my family somewhere when I was really young and my Dad wanted me to turn the fish tank light off. All we had was one bottom feeder in it. I asked where the light was and he said "You have to learn how to do things yourself" so I just started twisting and clicking everything in a desperate effort to turn it off so my Dad wouldn't get mad at me.

We come home a few hours later with a weird smell. We look turn on the room light and see the bottom feeder floating upside down. We felt the glass and the water was fucking boiling. i cooked him to death.

Felt like shit for a while.

Parents get into a huge fight and dad takes off storming out of the house. His German Shepard mix scared off a momma opossum and nabbed a baby female and gave it to my dad. Dad brings it to mom as a "peace offering" and we end up nursing this stinky shitter back to health, tried releasing it and it had already imprinted on us so we kept it. Took it to a very trusted vet, gave it shots etc.., Litterbox trained it and had her for around 6 years. Acted like a very lazy, yet affectionate cat with the worst smelling shit known to man. Vet's assistant gave us a call that she had 6 orphaned baby opossums so we took up the offer. Raised em' correctly, trying not to allow to imprint on us. Everything was going fine until one day I heard lots of hissing and screeching. Went to check up on em' and 5 of these fuckers were chowin' down eating one of their siblings. Angry, I put them in a box, hopped on my atv and dropped em' off probaly a few weeks too early at the edge of our property. Feeling guilty I later brought a bowl of their typical food mixture later that night. Still kick myself over it because I most likely doomed 5 cannibalistic babies.

I bought an adorable baby ball python. Had a nice setup and everything. Bought some of those heating lights to keep him warm, with a red one to simulate nighttime. After a few weeks, I put these on timers in case I got home late so it wouldn't fuck up his circadian rhythm or stress him out. That night I crushed up some morphine pills, put them in water, sucked them up in a turkey baster, and squirted it up my ass. It got me high as fuck and I nodded out watching Fist of Fury. I woke up at 9:30 p.m., 30 minutes after the day light was supposed to go off and the night light was supposed to go on. He was cooked to death. I still feel terrible about my adorable little snack.
I gave the little black and white mousey that was his next meal to my mom. She named him Stuart. He started having awful seizures and I had to crash him with a hammer.
Just a bummer all around.
I'm actually procrastinating moving my piranha into a 30 gallon right now.

How can you tell if they like it? What do they do? I looked up horse porn when I was in high school, and usually the stallions would have erections but wouldn't seem into it. Versus watching horses fuck, like the infamous Mr. Hands gif, where they're going at it like crazy. But that's stallions. My coworker was in Afghanistan and he said that the Arabs would fuck donkeys. One retarded guy rented a jinny from town and brought it in front of their base and fucked it while waving at them. He said the donkey didn't even move. Another time he was in a fire fight and looked up on a hill and some kid who looked to be 14 was fucking the shit out of a donkey. I guess if you're about to die, might as well get it on. Not a pet, but I killed 5 chipmunks this week. I've caught them digging up my garden, so it had to be done, but I wasn't too kind about it.

One could say that your lack of a counter-point (muh morality isn't a counter-point, stoning children for disrespecting their parents used to be considered moral) proved him right.
>>
>>2151078
One could also argue that if you have to be convinced that fucking animals is wrong then you are a broken person. No counterpoint or not, some things a rational person should just know, a concept of right and wrong should be ingrained in you by the time you reach puberty.
Knowing that you should not stick your dick in animals (or vice versa) is not an alien concept, nor is it unreasonable to expect from anyone who is not mentally deficient.
>>
>>2151086
Now you see, that is dangerous reasoning. We could use that same reasoning in many objectively acceptable situations:

>if you have to be convinced that fucking a guy in the ass is wrong then you are a broken person
>if you have to be convinced that watching cartoons as an adult is wrong then you are a broken person
>if you have to be convinced that arguing morality on a Mongolian basket weaving forum animals is wrong then you are a broken person

So on and so forth. I can provide more examples if you want, but in essence what you are saying is that your opinion is objective truth and you have nothing to back it up. You need to learn to be able to defend your positions without sounding like a teenage girl.
>>
>>2151096
I shouldn't have to explain my position to anybody that beastiallity is wrong. It is that simple.
Of course on this board somebody like yourself will stand up and say "bbut whyy" or "you need to prove that fucking animals is wrong", but let's be honest this place does not function like the real world.
>>
>>2151114
Well then, he shouldn't have to explain his position to anybody that bestiality is okay. It is as self evident as you being right.

You can't use a relativistic moral argument and then expect it to not be turned right back around at you.
>>
>>2151096
>We could use that same reasoning in many objectively acceptable situations:

but everything you just mentioned technically makes you broken.

so you're admitting that you're broken?

>>
>>2151119
>You can't use a relativistic moral argument and then expect it to not be turned right back around at you.
Just as much as you can't expect a statement such as "there is nothing wrong with fucking an animal" to be accepted by anyone in thier right mind.
Somethings are a given, keeping your dick out of your pets is one of them. Why are you trying so hard to make it sound like I need to show proof or sources? Most mentally stable people will agree with the obviously popular opinion that fucking animals is bad, and leave it at that. Why do you need this statement explained to you?

I am not comparing bestiality to homosexuality, I am comparing that person's argument to a similar, just as pointless argument against homosexuality. I am trying to get them to think logically about why bestiality is wrong instead of using Tumblr-tier "muh feelings" statements.

the difference is that homosexuality is usually between two consenting adults.

beastiality is not, much like pedophilia.

I don't need to. I can recognize it as an act of degeneracy and know that it's not for me. Again, some things are a given.

and about not ending up in jail.

one might argue that spending time in jail isn't too bad though, you're getting food, water, a roof above your head, and I'm sure Tyrone agrees with that once you drop the soap.
>>
>>2151179
Bestiality isn't illegal everywhere. West Virginia for example.
>>
>>2151183
neither is freedom of speech but there's plenty of countries that will throw you in jail for it anyway.
>>
>>2151186
"You shouldn't fuck animals because you might get arrested" is a completely different argument from "You shouldn't fuck animals because it hurts my feelings."
>>
>>2151186
Yep, which is why the legality of actions should be avoided when discussing why an action should or should not be done.
>>
>>2151188
not really, don't you get thrown in jail in America for hurting people their feelings?
>>
>>2151189
even if it's legal I'm willing to bet that you'll get arrested if you publicly admit that you fuck animals anywhere on earth except for the caliphate.
>>
>>2151152
To make that comparison work you have to identify why pedophilia is wrong, and then make a convincing argument that those issues are still relevant in the context of bestiality.
Most arguments against pedophilia aren't relevant in the context of bestiality.

>>2151161
>>Can you make the logical reasoning as to why bestiality isn't wrong?
>I don't need to. I can recognize it as an act of no I'll effect and know that it's right for me. Again, some things are a given.
See, that doesn't work. It's the same as you saying "It hurts my feelings."

>>2151190
Are you saying that bestiality should only be illegal in America? Sounds convenient for you.
>>
>>2151194
>Most arguments against pedophilia aren't relevant in the context of bestiality.
it's a consent issue in both cases.

I don't think they need to make it illegal for you to go to jail for it.
>>
>>2151196
>it's a consent issue in both cases.
That's still an appeal to emotion/morality. A pepper argument would address the negative effects of the actions.
>>
If bestiality is wrong, breeding is wrong.
Both are sexual acts the animal cannot consent to.
Both are done for personal gratification and/or greed.

But really, if you're a horse, would you choose

>have a small object shoved into my vagina that I barely feel a couple times a week and live an otherwise comfortable life

or

>have an appendage the size of a stallion's penis repeatedly inserted into my rectum and vagina throughout my life for the sole purpose of forcing me to carry a child that will be ripped away from me and sold into slavery to sate the greed of my owner, just to have the process repeated again until I'm barren and sold for slaughter

Have you ever seen a brood mare? Most are treated like absolute garbage. Their lives are a living hell.

The way I see it, one of those lives is much worse than the other.

If you're coming at this from an animal welfare or consent standpoint, you have things that are far worse out there that are tolerated/ignored by society that you should be focused on changing if you actually gave the slightest fuck about animals - but let's get real here, you don't, you just want any and every excuse to hate something different than you, regardless of the validity of said excuse.
>>
>>2151492
You know it's possible to be against both right?

By your logic it's okay to beat children because some other people rape and murder theirs and beating isn't as bad comparatively

>>
>>2151558
>By your logic it's okay to beat dogs because some other people torture theirs to death so just beating isn't as bad comparatively

>>
>>2151650
Beating inflicts pain and suffering. A sexual encounter with an animal many times your size does not. At worst it causes temporary discomfort - just like riding or working. Animals have no retarded stigma attached to sex like people do. If you're inflicting pain it will show in her body language, and yes if you continue at that point it becomes abuse, but the vast majority of people that do this don't push the issue if she's unwilling. Believe it or not we hate rapists and sadists as much as anyone else, but to immediately label all sexual contact with animals as rape and abuse is not only asinine, it shows a complete lack of capacity for objective rational thought as well as anthropomorphization and projection of human attitudes about sex onto animals that in reality simply do not fucking care.
>>
>>2151678
It doesn't even necessarily cause discomfort. If one is able to recognize discomfort in the animal and stops what they're doing if and when see it (which is true in the horse fucker anon's case), you don't even need to address that.
>>
>>2142573

I kidnap my current cat.

I leave food out on my yard for the strays, and even play with them. One day, a hungry but well-kept cat wandered in, ate the food, and acted like he owned the place. He also started to chew my hair.

I am instantly smitten. I let him go in and out as he pleases, but he keeps coming back, and he never left the place for more than an hour, so after a week or so I booked an appointment with the vet to get him neutered.

Deep down, I still feel guilty because I probably took someone's pet (his fur is too soft to be a stray), but since he keeps coming to me..

I'm a horrible human bean.

Had a 9' Boa I inherited from a friend who had to leave town in a hurry. Kept it for about three years and built it this awesome 6 foot by 4 foot by 2 foor enclosure. One day boa knocked over water dish so sand was wet on heater. I noticed but didn't change sand for two days. Take boa out to change sand and skin rash on belly from hot wet sand. Boa stopped eating. Gave it baths, cleaned it and tried everything for a full year. Bought it rats every two weeks but it never ate them. Fucking snake hadn't eaten for a year and I'm headed home with one last rat. I figure if it won't eat I'll kill it and end it's misery. Snake was dead. Worst thing I've ever smelled. I'll never keep another snake after that.
>>
>>2151704
It's because of stories like this and of what I did as a kid that I refuse to buy my kids any rodents as pets.

I used to neglect my hamsters until they died of either starvation or dehydration, I was a horrible pet owner as a child. I would also pick up cats by their tails and spin them around. Now I own some guinea pigs and I make sure they get the best care, I even schedule monthly check ups, bubble baths, and nail clipping for them.
>>
>>2152546
Children are just really shit pet owners.
The best thing that can be done is not only teach the child about pet care but have some kind of pet that only you solely care for first when the child is still practically a baby, like a fish or something. By having them grow up with something, it makes them less likely to mistreat them when you teach them not to fuck with them.
Never give them real responsibility over a pet until they actually seem like they can handle it
>>
>>2151196
I don't see animals giving consent to be butchered or put in cages

Which is fine by me because they taste delicious

When I was ten me and some friends were playing around with toads we'd caught, giving them names and making them race each other. I decided my toad was hungry and would like to eat some ants. nearby was a big ant-hill. So I dropped the toad next to the ants, but instead of the toad eating the ants, they rushed at it and began biting. Turns out those were Hercules ants. The toad began swelling up and twitching, big purple bruises from the ant bites.

It died shortly after. We held a funeral for it and spent the remaining day picking at the anthill with sticks.
>>
>>2152974
Yeah... Your average 7-10 year old isn't responsible enough to properly take care of a small animal on their own.

My kid sisters have a hamster, but they only pick it up with supervision from my mom and she makes sure the cage is cleaned etc.
>>
When I was 12 or 13 our dogs fucked and the girl got pregnant. Neither were spayed or neutered so it was inevitable really.
Our girl gave birth to like 13 fucking puppies. They were adorable and precious but being a poor af family there was no way we could care for these little guys. So at barely 3-4 weeks old we tried to find them homes. I even remember being outside watching them pups when a guy walks by and asks me if they're old enough to eat regular dog food. Not really knowing anything about dogs I just said yes and he immediately chose one to take. I don't know what damage I did giving that pup away so soon but I still feel extremely guilty for it.
That might have been the only pup to have gone away I think. None of these puppies were taken to a vet. We could barely even afford dog food at the time for the two grown dogs. I knew they needed shots and cried when they started getting sick. Every single one of them died. I held their heavy corpses and placed them in baskets so family and I could abandon them in a ditch.
I don't want another pet until I have the means to take proper care for them. ;-;

I'm fairly sure fucking animals is the effect of some kind of mental problem, but 'rape' is a human concept. Many species 'rape' as their natural means of reproduction.

Imo, a guy who lets his dog fuck him or puts bacon on his dick so the dog will lick it, is strange and has some nasty fetishes, but he isn't abusing any animals.

Using consent as you would for a human is a slippery slope. You wouldn't put another human on a leash, or make them sleep outside either.

I hit my dog once and I don't mean just the slap on the nose or the butt. I mean just open hand hit her. We were playing and she accidentally scratched my eye and it hurt. I just hit her really hard and she hid in her cage.

It took her a couple of weeks to get back to normal but she still acts different. I'll never forgive myself.

I had collected some toads and put them in a big glass jar. My dad told me to release them before I went in for dinner. But I didn't want to lose my 'friends' so instead I hid the jar behind the house and went in for dinner.

It was a very hot and sunny day. When I came back, those toads were roasted. I felt super guilty, but I still proceeded to take out all of the crispy corpses and lay them around the garden so my dad wouldn't know I'd left them in the jar. I was 6 or 7.

I love animals, but I was severely depressed for quite a few years. Here's a list of animals that've died before their times and been pretty badly neglected:

-3 hamsters
-2 hermit crabs
-5-6 ish ADFs
-many goldfish
-2 koi
-a baby guinea pig
-a betta fish, although he was in a heated and filtered 10 gallon. I never cleaned it, just added more water when enough evaporated.

I feel so bad. I never really should've owned animals and I took okay care of my cats and dog, but the small ones always ended up sitting in their own filth with no food and no water for days on end.

I want a snake, but I'm scared that it'll happen again, even though I'm better now.
>>
My old guinea pig Muffins, which I had for 5 years. I spent a lot of time with him and he loved to cuddle, but sometimes I just couldn't bother to clean the cage and his poop would pile up. It'd be so bad sometimes I'd find him sitting on top of his house, just to not lie in his own filth, at which point I always felt really bad and cleaned it. I don't know why I sometimes neglected him like that, but judging from the similar posts in this thread I was probably depressed. Didn't take care of myself or my living space either.

>>
>>2156986
>I don't get why they're so highly recommended to depressed people.

Because therapy animals are a thing. But there's a clear difference in having therapy session with like a bunny to actually keeping it at home because the former doesn't require you to actually care for it, it's someone else's responsibility.
Plus some things like fish do have a therapeutic effect in watching them swim, forage, and explore, but the maintenance part is what's forgotten when considering them to be therapy animals.

What is it about the small animals that makes you ignore them as oppose to your cats?
>>
Had a pet cat when I was like 5 or 6, wanted to help my parents out or some shit and give it a bath.

>What is it about the small animals that makes you ignore them as oppose to your cats?
Different anon, but my dog is very insistent on reminding me to feed it, or let him outside, or play, or go to sleep/wake up. I assume cats are just as bossy when it comes to maintaining a routine. Anything I had that was contained and quiet tended to get overlooked. Not intentionally, but I don't have much memory and can't seem to form habits.

maybe it helps to have them at a fairly frequent traffic location? But not enough to stress them out 24/7

Honestly sounds like you're fine with your cats.

A small pet just sounds like it's only for the novelty factor and if that wears off, you'll end up neglecting it unless you actually really care about it.

You mentioned a snake and that's a reptile who tends to have a lot of novelty attraction to them (what with how they eat and overall just being a snek) but bear in mind some have specific care requirements and heating is important. A plus to them is at least unlike most pets in general, they only eat like once every couple days, which is great since it's less demanding but sttil gotta clean their shit. Plus they don't handle too much and like hiding alot

Me and my two cousins (we were around 13) found this pond on our grandparent's ranch with a fuckton of frogs in it and, being bored, egdy teenagers, proceed to genocide the fuck out of them. The frogs would congregate on the shore and we would kill them with airsoft guns. They were so slow, they barely attempted to hop away, and there were so many of them that it was almost easier to hit than miss. They were small enough that they just exploded when we shot them. We killed almost all of them over the course of three days, the number must be well into the thousands between the three of us. One of my cousins even killed two turtles with a bb gun.

In 4th grade we had a tadpole as a class pet, just something nice and interesting to look at when you walked by. I killed all three. It wasn't intentional. I did not act with the intent to kill them, but I wanted to know how they'd react the different ways I'd stimulate their little plastic box. Eventually I stopped because I realized I was doing a bad thing even though I didn't really feel bad about it.

Yeah my biology teacher was a bitch and always kept this tacky ass aquarium(goldfish, neon tetras, plastic plants, multicolored gravel etc). One day she gave me and a friend a weeks worth of lunch detention because she thought we were cheating(We weren't). Another teacher comes in and my biology teacher goes with him. I just was sitting there eating when my friend pulled out a salt shaker he stole from the cafeteria. He unscrewed the lid and poured a shitton on the table and used his paper and his hand to pour it into the aquarium. By the next day we come in to see the aquarium empty of both water and life. I hated my biology teacher but I've never seen a human being crushed so much by the death of some fish. I think she suspected that we did something but never did anything because she didn't have any proof.

fuck you right back bud, it's all contextual and varies from case to case

you ever see that story of the furry that adopts a female husky just so he can fuck it, and ultimately the dog ends up a complete wreck?

What? of course cats have emotions.

Also keep them inside, most cats dont survive long outside.

My daughter emptied a tube of toothpaste into my 75 gallon while I was doing laundry. She was about 18 months at the time. I had two black moores that I'd had since childhood in there. No survivors. Didn't think I'd be so fucked up over a couple of .90 cent fish but I really was. Had to bury them because they were so big. Still miss them 7 years later. Rip Albert and Carlos.

Strange. I love dogs

>wake up one morning to see neighbor's shitty beagle dragging one of my chickens corpses across the yard from my window
>sonic speed downstairs, out the door, grab the dog and cage it
>killed one chicken, another one was missing and still is, never found it so I assumed dog killed him, too
>fill up barrel with water
>drown dog
>dead in like 1 minute

No way I was letting that thing live. I work hard to protect and raise my chickens while they just let that nasty flea-bitten dog run all around. It had a fucked up leg and ticks/fleas all over it, I doubt they even fed it.

My only regret is that I don't know how to use a gun so that I could kill it quicker. Never had an interest in weapons or hunting, so I've had to drown off a lot of pest animals (that beagle, feral cat, more raccoons than I can count on two hands).

when I was little I used to be a psycho bird killer so I would hunt birds, grab them and give them to my dog. once I tied two birds by their legs with a string and every time they tried to fly they failed terribly. I remember the horrible chirping when my dog came after those two

also, when I was little I bought many fishes because they were cheap at the marketplace and would put them all together. I never understood why they all died and ate themselves, I mean, now I know you shouldn't just put a bunch of fucking noncompatible-fish-that-will-kill-eachother together.

I had a parakeet once and one day the thing just wouldn't shut the fuck up so I grabbed him and put him between my legs.
I kept studying. I didn't realize it died of suffocation.

I'm afraid of having kids.

How have you had multiple divorces while being 18?
>>
>>2142573
I know for a fact that it was my fault our cat died. I didn't even realize how until years later. It haunts me constantly. I'll be at work, and I'll remember killing my cat. I'll be eating, and all of a sudden I'm thinking of my cat. I'll be in the middle of feeling good about myself, and then I remember how I fucked up and got my friend killed. I hate it, and its why even ten years later at 25, I don't own pets. Its too traumatic for me, and I don't even consider myself a sensitive person.

I had two ferrets which I sweared I loved yet didn't even take them out of their cage everyday. Also they ate regular, cheap cat food.
Actually I'd say I took them out 1 hour each week... Probably.
Also I had 2 rats living in a tiny cage. I left 2 days can't remember why, left them under the sun and they were dead when I came back.
I fucking hate myself now.

Saw a bird with a damaged wing yesterday. Tried to think of a way to help it, but couldn't think of any and just left it there. I mean, wouldn't it just shit itself and die if I picked it up?

Mostly my mom's terrible pet stories, I just mostly roughhouse my cats and give them time-outs in the bathroom.

>first dog ever in my life
>my mom borrowed it from her (ex) boyfriend
>she kept it in a dark tiny space that's open to the rest of the house but the dog was chained into a small corner
>I was 4, I come to pet it every day
>I let it loose one time and the dog got beaten by my mom
>my mom wouldn't give the dog water, give the dog only salty-ass human food
>the dog almost died after 2 weeks with us
>the boyfriend broke up with her because she was playing the single-mother's game and mistreated his dog
>I was 6
>mom got a dalmatian puppy from her client's litter
>dalmation puppy would be chained outside of our house, hoarded of mosquitoes and all
>scratched himself raw and bleeding the next morning I came out for him
>whenever I try to snuggle with him, he would yelp in pain because of his raw patches of skin
>the dog ran away after a week

>What's wrong with our culture? /pol/ and tumblr are starting to make more sense now
Societies naturally promote factitious thinking. In the old days it was easy to morally justify since most enemy factions where linked to foreigners or obscure social trends. People could righteously, even rationally uphold their views because they were ignorant of who their enemies were.

Now we have enough knowledge of foreigners and subcultures to know they aren't that different.
Of course factitious thinking still persists but without a focused reason or target. It requires broad constructs that are hard to disprove and forced personal ignorance.

/pol/ and tumblr look insane because they are paragons of the way things have been done forever but with none of the fanfare. They are kids fighting over cats and dogs because they don't know what else to fight over.

Hey OP sorry to jump in here out of subject but I saw you mentioned you had cared for a leopard gecko. I am planning on getting one this weekend. Do you have any special tips for caring for it/things you wish you'd known? I wish to give the little guy a nice home and a pleasant life.

I stupidly let a stray husky near a box of outdoor kittens I was taking care of. Dumb 12 year old me didn't think it was a threat.

In a split second, the husky ran off with one kitten. While we were in chase, the kitten's neck snapped and died. I managed to get the dog to stop and drop the cat's lifeless body. I started bawling right then and there. Husky was wagging its tail like nothing was wrong --like the kitten was just a chew toy. Silly thing even tried to comfort me and lick my face. It wasn't until later I found out Huskies have powerful prey drives and shouldn't be trusted without strict training (and even then), around smaller creatures. (i.e. cats, dogs, babies, hamsters, etc)

It wasn't the dog's fault but I really should have known better. I think about this moment a lot too. I wish I could have stopped it from happening. Now, I tend to tense up around bigger dogs, especially when they're near my little pup. I never want that to happen again. ;_;

When I was like 8-10 my hamster died of dehydration because of my negligence and his cage being on the windowsill. I'm 21 but get extremely upset if I think about it still, it's one of my biggest regrets. I have a hamster now who I treat like a fucking king, dwarf with a 40 gallon aquarium, structures and levels and tubes, varied diet, handle him almost erryday and he still bites the shit out of me.

I was at a boat launch once and a guy had a kitten in his wheel well, I didn't see the cat and we figured if he drove slowly it would leave, he drove slowly didn't hear anything then started to pull out the cat fell out from underneath the car it rolled around for a bit crying, I took it and tossed it in the bush.

That same day I caught a seagull while fishing, luckily I was able to get it unhooked and it flew away. that was one of the worst long weekends ever.

Just recently I've been watching my cousins betas I didn't check on them and one died the filter stopped working and the food thing didn't dissolve, other two are doing good though.

I was growing a garden years ago and two neighborhood cats would always run through it and shit/piss all over the garden. Killed my chili pepper plants. Couldn't let them kill my guava plant so I left cat food out with anti freeze and didn't see them ever again after the 3rd day. I finally grew my Thai pepper plant!

I used to work in a pet shop
One night the gorgeous parakeets got out and I only noticed after the vents had been opened (since it was a greenhouse). Got the manager to close them... and one of them got crushed.
