Hey /an/,

About two weeks ago I created this aquatic ecosystem a few weeks ago and have loved watching it slowly develop.

Recently though this white slimy stuff as seen in the picture has formed and i am unsure what it is or what could've created it. Any ideas?
Here is what I have in my container.
>10 Aquatic snails
>Duckweed
>Eurasion Milfoil
>1 Zebra Mussel
>algae, but I am unsure what kind
>various waterlogged sticks and a walnut.
>riverbed soil and rocks so whatever baggage comes with that
>>

i've got limited knowledge about water, but isn't most living stuff gonna die once all oxygen is used up? like dead lakes u know?
>>
Freshwater mussels are a meme.
>>
>>2119983
>white slimy stuff
White algae, not harmful, snails will eat it.
>>
>>2120015
>plants don't create oxygen
>>
>>2120025
not algea, but bacteria
None the lesse, snails will eat it
>>
>>2120026
Not to put a downer on things but I'm not sure a few plants will add much oxygen. Flowing water, ripples and bubbles and shit usually mix a lot of air into water in a normal ecosystem
>>

It's a bacteria bloom. They're usually not harmful and go away after a while. My friend got one in her tank once and it was actually really cool imo. Like having a nebula in your fish tank.

Plants play a large part in oxygenating water. Floating plants like duckweed are especially efficient at it. The aquatic snails OP has are probably bladder snails, which actually breathe from the air, and invertebrates in general don't use very much oxygen to begin with.

Then don't say shit.

If the plants fail, the algar will take over.

No oxygen simply means instant algae, just add normal wastes.

Algae makes oxygen.
>>
>>2120218
Isn't algal bloom an issue for aquariums?
>>
>>2120235
Unless it's really extreme, it's just ugly, not bad for the tank. There's a lot of algae in nature.
>>
if you put more gravel in the bottom it'll collect the bacteria in the gravel bed and be a more balanced ecosystem.

and you can throw a few little fish or bugs in there to introduce ammonia
>>
>>2120235
you are thinking of aerobic bacteria
>>
>Plants make oxygen
They also use oxygen when it's night and the dead plant matter they shed promotes aerobic bacteria.
Aquarium plants are useless when it comes to oxygenating a tank.
>>
>>2120331
honestly the ammonia amount would be little if you were keeping little critters, but a silent cycle could work with just biological filtration
>>2120421
>Aquarium plants are useless when it comes to oxygenating a tank.
i'm not sure if this is bait or not, but plants use oxygen to make CO2(which promotes their plant growth once morning hits), the amount is small so it can't suffocate a fish or any being living in there
>dead plant matter they shed promotes aerobic bacteria
>he doesn't do daily tank maintenance
>his plants shed

Alright! New /nowires/ thread!

HEIL HYDRA!

You ask for help then get defensive when someone offers what is obviously the correct advice. Grow up. You need more oxygen either by more plants or an air stone and pump.
