Ticks. I would go in the woods WAY more if it weren't for these nasty fuckers. I'm completely paranoid about them.
>>
>>2073107
Fucking things. Had my pit bulldog in the kennel a few years ago. He starts screeching I run out and it's just a small opossum in his kennel. I told him it was ok to get it and he crunched it. I had to kill 2 others that were trying to eat all of my tomatoes. Couldn't let the pit in the patch because that idiot would rather eat the tomatoes than kill the vermin. I need a good terrier.
>>
>>2073197
Dont like ticks or rabies but I do like having lizards and snakes around. The only good thing opossums do is eat rodents. I'll stick with my skinks and garters.
>>
>>2073174
Why do people do this shit? We already have english bulldogs why try to make even more unsound versions of bulldogs?
>>
>>2073215
They also are efficient tick killers, and are scavengers, so they clean up your yard a good deal. They're actually pretty good to have around.
>>

Do you have a vegetable garden? They can be as bad as rabbits.
The only regret I have for killing the opossums I did was not eating them after I killed them. I left them for the crows.
>>
>>2073260
I do have a vegetable garden, mostly tomatoes and cucumbers. They barely touch it. The groundhogs leave it be, too. And I don't see many rabbits these days, but they were more inclined to eat my crocus. Maybe I'm just lucky.
>>
>>2073264
Everything in my yard wants to eat my veggies. I kill everything I can catch in my veggie patch but I am lenient with my strawberries.
Cabbage moths were my biggest problem last year. They didn't touch my cukes. Rabbits and slugs tried. Haven't seen any possums recently.
>>
>>2073248
Samefagging
>>
>>2073264
I forgot I also grew broccoli for the 1st time cabbage moths loved that more than the actual cabbages. I let the surviving broccoli flower and the honeybees and flies that look like bees loved it. I hope it was good for them.
>>
>>2073107
Why is it called an opossum?
Every time I see or hear it, it just sounds like a shitty sitcom.
Possum shits out some dumb ass meme one-liner
Possum's wife turns to the camera with a grin that looks like she's sucked one too many lemons and says "opossum!"
It's fucking stupid, what is wrong with America?
>>
>>2073275
I don't kill anything in my garden, not even the bugs. But I only grow the veggies for fun, it's not like they're one of my main sources of food. I actually ended up with more than I can eat last year. So I figure that if an animal wants to eat some of my produce, they can have a little.

The only thing that really bothers me are the feral cats. They shit in my garden. I don't want cat shit on my produce.
>>
mosquitoes. that's it. every other creature on this planet is a-ok in my books.

I have a mild fear of slugs
I just absolutely cannot bring myself to touch one with my bare skin if it's bigger than say, the last segment of my pinkie

I've never had a serious beef with them, I just find them literally repulsive, to the point where it's impeded my work once before.
>Winter
>Opening a cable pit for a telecomms company
>One of the sides is slightly caved in due to the pit being just dug straight into dirt since it was in a rural area
>About 15 slugs the size of snooker balls all hibernating stuck around the watertight housing where the terminations are made

I had to make up some bullshit and just left, I'm sorry mr man for delaying your new telephone line for a few days.
Most days I was picking spiders, ladybugs, aphids and flies in various parts of their life or death cycle out of my pockets and hair since they like to nest in with the wires and I could deal with that. Slugs on the other hand, I just cannot cope with. Snails too, but to a slightly lesser extent. At least I can relocate them via their shell if need be.

I let my cat out; so what of it.
He usually just stays in my yard and always comes in too shit and piss. Thanks to him repeatedly beating up and chasing off all the other neighborhood cats they no longer use my yard as a litter box.

He does sometimes kill and eat wildlife but I don't think it's a big deal. It's usually just lizards brown anoles to be exact(I very little sympathy for an invasive species that killed off are more beautiful green anoles), fruit rats(they kinda deserve it for destroying half my lemons and oranges every year), insects(no comment), and rarely birds(they have wings why didn't they use them to fly away; removing the weaklings from the gene pool actually helps the species advance).

If god forbid some sick fuck ever intentionally harmed and/or killed my kitty; I'm glad that I live in a part of the world were all I have to do is none aggressively bait them into trying to assault me and I can legally shoot them.

I'm guessing wild but in some national park where they're conditioned to human contact.

Horses aren't aggressive by nature, but they're notoriously skittish animals because they're lower on the food chain. A horse can still really fuck your day up. If you browse here a lot you'll often here about the horse that nearly killed his rider by crushing him when the horse was scared, reared, broke it's neck and died, nearly drowning it's owner in a creek because a frog lept from the water.

If you ever stay in any hotel, as soon as you enter the room, pull back the head of the mattress and check around it and the headboard. That's where they like to hide most often.
At one point recently, we had 7 fucking rooms out of order with them, because my manager is a filthy shitskin who won't pay for a goddamned exterminator. He just sprays a little Raid or something in the room and calls it good.

Oppossums are forestbros. They really don't do too much because of low body temps. They might get into your trash now and then but they wander when they look for food so they usually don't stick around unless they nest nearby. Other than that they tend to mind their own business.

It's those fucking raccoons that I don't like. They're meaner than hell, completely trash whatever they get into, wake you up in the middle of the night with their wicked banshee hellpig screams when they fight, carry disease, shit everywhere, and kill chickens and cats.

Cats is like, okay, keep your cat indoors if you have one, but chickens are an outside animal and raccoons can slip through a fucking hole the size a dime (it seems) and will eat your birds alive. They can also cockthrottle an animal twice their size, so if your dog corners one, he'll likely get fucked up.

I feel sorry for possums. They're born. They've had kids before their 2nd birthday. They're dead of old age before their 3rd. What kind of a life is that? It's like giving a being self awareness and then snuffing it out before a century's passed.

I hate these fuckers. They have our intelligence and almost no awareness of their own mortality. They just swim around eating and fucking without a care in the world. We might be just as lucky if we sank out of sight when our time came, leaving everyone to wonder for a moment what happened to Bob before some fish or some pussy distracted them.

Interestingly enough, they found crying babies elicit an almost universal reaction of repulsion in adults EXCEPT for the crying of your own baby. It activates the "drive reward" pathway in your brain, driving you to stop the crying and rewarding you for doing so. So if you ever have your own baby, you'll probably be drawn to the crying instead of repulsed.
>>
>>2077002
clearly "they" aren't parents.

the only reward you get from shutting your own babby up is some peace and quiet and maybe 10 minutes of sleep.

there are a lot of things about being a parent that are actually rewarding. This isn't one of them.

9% of cases in the US are congenital.
most cases are caused by food, either undercooked meat or unwashed fruits and vegetables.

Owning cats isn't a good predictor of infection in the US where about 1/4 of the population has it. It's an even worse predictor in other countries where 80-90% of people are infected.

High velocity cartridges like .22-250 or .223 with varmint bullet are recommended for dispatching feral cats. Do not use rimfire calibers like .22lr or .22wmr because they have high change of non lethal wounding.

If rifle calibers are out of question for safety reasons then #4 buckshot with tight shoke or broadhead from 40lb+ bow should do the trick fast and humanely.

When a chimp murders one of its peers, it can't be explained as "aggressive behaviour". Instead, the murder is the culmination of a longer personal conflict. Social complexity is the root of all violence in chimp society, just as in the human one.

Sometimes my carnivorous plants catch adults but there's so many of them it doesn't make any difference. Also if you have dogs you have to be really careful with them, they are known to destroy the tongues of any animal that tries to eat them.

nvm, I found it:
"Any mammal can get rabies. However, the chance of rabies in an opossum is EXTREMELY RARE. This may have something to do with the opossum's low body temperature (94-97º F) making it difficult for the virus to survive in an opossum's body."

I think people who let their cats roam are being a bit irresponsible, but I also think the anti-outdoor cat people are generally pretty extremist. For a lot of them it has little to do with their actual experiences and is more of a political belief or even religion. It's just another strain of ardent environmentalism.

I mean they talk about sound birds and biodiversity... biodiversity in WHAT environment though? The biodivisity in a suburb at least 50 miles from the nearest area that could loosely be considered "wilderness"?

I can understand it better in a place like Australia or Hawaii, but in most other places the concern about song birds is pure bull shit.

Cats have been roaming free in civilized areas since there were any civilized areas.

He's had one cat get mauled by some other animal; it lived, but racked up a huge vet bill.
Then last summer, he had one of his cats come home with NO FUCKING BACK LEGS! The general consensus is that it must have gotten caught under a tractor mower. He had to have it put down, but he still lets the rest of his cats run everywhere...
There are coyotes everywhere around us too.
He's tried several times (when we were on speaking terms) to let my cat roam around outside. I politely declined.
>>
>>2080407
The instances in which either of these things happen are far rarer than people like to think. There is a lot of hyperbole surrounding coyotes. There's not nearly as much livestock loss caused by coyotes as people like to think. And coyotes actually bothering people instead of staying out of their way is very uncommon as well.

I don't like outdoor cats.
They always kill european grass snakes, blindworms and smooth snakes around here, which are very endagered where I live.

a quick story
>Last summer
>see the neighbour's cat in my garden with a relatively big snake
>trowing the snake around
>"not this time, you cunt"
>go outside and hide until she drops the snake
>send dog to chase the fucker away (if I would have gone, the cat would have taken the snake again, before running)
>while the cat sits on a small tree, I get the snake
>oh shit, an aesculapian snake, CRITICALLY endangered
>luckily, the snake wasn't hurt too badly, so after a while I was able to release it again

They also killed a few fish from the pond in my garden. The snakes at my pond are not safe either, i often find snakes and lizards with their heads bitten off in my garden (not to mention birds etc.)
And that's why I hate outdoor cats

any idea how to keep the fuckers out of my garden?

Would it seriously effect the ecosystem if we killed all mosquitoes? Because I'm starting to think that we don't need the motherfuckers...
>>
>>2083748
Some ecologists have argued that it very well could be possible, but we don't know for sure.
>>
>>2083748
Mosquitos serve as the primary food source for a lot of insectivores, birds, bats, fish, etc.
Mostly because they exist in such huge numbers.

people say they're unimportant because they don't inhabit any ecological niches that other insect species don't also inhabit, but these other insects don't have the same numbers and reproductive rate. Getting rid of mosquitos would effectively cut the food supply of many species in half.

noone says anything about native predators.
The whole ecosystem evolved around the animals that live in that place
if you think, bringing another apex predator into the game is no problem, there is something seriously wrong with you

Fuck you cicadas are chill as fuck. They don't even have a mouth to bite you with, just a proboscis that they only ever use on trees.

You can just pick them up off the ground, they don't even care.

>>2084150
That's why we don't leave our pets outside unattended. It's irrational to hate coyotes for eating your cats when you're the one putting the cat in danger.
