Anybody on here make /an/-related OC? I do field recordings and there's been some interest so I decided to make a thread. Post your OC here!

Here's a nice easy one of a spring evening. Birds, frogs, crickets, breeze.

The Spring Peepers were intense this year (as always). My recording rig is really expensive but made up of many components, so I spent a little money at a time to build it up. This recording was done when I didn't have my amazing preamps yet and I hadn't built the Jecklin disk either - SO the quality isn't as beautiful as the first post. Shame too, because the peepers are a pretty impressive wall of noise. Next spring I'll get'm properly.

Hey /an/.

I still live at home, and I have a cat. When my mom got him for me she said "don't keep your eyes off him".

A few months go by and my mom decides my cat doesn't like her, so she went out yesterday and got a kitten without telling anyone. My cat hates the new one. Following the new one 3 inches behind and taking any chance to smack the little guy. My mom says he'll get used to him eventually, keeping the kitten in the bathroom at night.

So this morning, my mom had to go to work. Kitten goes in bathroom. Then my dad leaves, then I leave. She comes back because she has a break until 3pm, and lets her kitten out to explore.

My mom is one of those people who has a laptop open while watching TV. She has a macbook and plays fucking bejeweled or some point and click shovelware shitfest instead of talk to people. When you go to ask her something or tell her something it takes her tens of seconds to eventually go "huh?". She is also semi-hoarder, there is a lot of stuff around the house. Unused gadgets and new pans or tupperware scattered everywhere. Garbage imo but she freaks out when you toss it out.

So 3pm rolls around and she has to go to work. Kitten is gone. Old cat is waking up from a nap. She can't find this unnamed kitten. She looks everywhere, and can't find him. Meanwhile my cat is acting normal like the kitten never existed.

Did my cat eat the kitten, bone and all? I have no idea how I'm going to find this kitten. For all I know, one of her piles of shit has already fallen on the poor thing.

What do? Pic semi-related, it's my cat.

It's probably trapped somewhere. Kittens aren't very smart and your mom needs to fucking clean to prevent getting it killed until it actually learns not to be an idiot and get stuck in stuff.

But sometimes adult cats are fucking stupid too. A few months ago my roommate brought in his friend's cat without telling me. I wasn't around for awhile and by the time I came home he told me he escaped about a week ago. Almost a week later I found him stuck behind a shelf-dresser thing we have(he could move around behind it but couldn't jump back over it).
We are clean people and this fuckin' cat is so quiet it didn't even meow fucking once even when we were in the same goddamn room. He wasn't hurt but he was practically a skeleton with fur at that point.

I've looked everywhere, I can't find it. I've even checked my sump pump and inside of sofas and beds. It hasn't turned up. I've checked outside too, nothing.

Maybe eventually it will mew? I don't know. I'm sweating and just scared for this thing.

It might start making noise once it gets hungry or whatever, if you're lucky and it's not retarded. Even so, it will be fine for a few days if it's stuck as long as it isn't hurt.

Really you're just going to have to toss the house. Pull out furniture, look under it, shove piles around, etc. If there is enough junk to fall over and hurt it, then well. Good luck. Pic related. I've cleaned out hoarder houses before, and yes, we've found dead cats before that the owners never knew was there.

Hey /an/,

I'm thinking about adopting my first dog pretty soon, and I'd really like an adult dog that's out of it's puppy stage. There's a 7 year old lab and an 8 year old cattle dog mix that I'm interested in. However, everyone is telling me that it's more cost effective to get a younger (3-5 years) dog because all of the money for a senior dog will be spend on vet bills due to increased visits. Is there any truth in this?

old dogs are less healthy but young dogs get old later. it'd be cheapest to get one that's already dead.

Adopt a greyhound
>>
eh, I'd personally go with the cattle dog mix if they didn't have known hip issues cause I adore them and older ones aren't so.. well, neurotic

but regardless I think adopting a slightly older dog is great, especially if you don't have a ton of experience in training. the medical costs can be more, but even in older pets it's not likely they're going to get a really expensive drawn out condition. people dont seem to get that most dogs act quite a bit like puppies until they're 3 or 4

Novato Couple Recount Terrifying Squirrel Attack
December 4, 2015

NOVATO (CBS-SF) - The last thing Richard Williams expected when he started doing chores in the garage of his Novato home the day after Thanksgiving was that he would soon be in a life-and-death battle with a crazed squirrel.

The 87-year-old Williams said the squirrel that has been terrorizing the neighborhood slipped into the garage through an open door.

"He charged me and jumped, and from then on, the battle started," he told KPIX CBS 5.

The squirrel turned Williams' head, arm and legs bloody. It also smashed his glasses.

"He was really vicious. He was clawing and scratching," he said. "I was trying to get him off. Every time I'd get him off, he'd jump back up again."

His 83-year-old wife, Norma, heard his screams and raced to his aid. When she saw her bloodied husband, she picked up a broom and joined the battle.

"I grabbed the broom, picked it up," she said. "I guess I hit the squirrel with it."

Still the attack continued.

"And then he jumped her," Richard Williams said. "I was able to grab him by the tail, threw him on the garage floor and he seemed stunned."

The squirrel then raced off and a neighbor came to the couple's aid, bringing them to a hospital for treatment of their wounds.

Both were bandaged up and given dozens of shots including vaccines for rabies and tetanus.

The same squirrel is suspected of attacking five others in the last two weeks in the surrounding neighborhood including a teacher and student at Pleasant Valley Elementary.

Animal control officers have been patrolling the area, searching for the squirrel. Warning flyers have also been posted.

Any Anon's got experience with stocking a lake with bass or catfish? I have 20 acres of wetlands and am interested in stocking it with fish. There are already some fish but not many I gather. Notice a few storks hunting there for fish and have heard them when they come up for air.

>>
Don't bother with catfish, they'll just dominate the lake.

If there isn't a lot of fish, you'll probably want to stock it with smaller fish first so it can support larger species like bass.

How about brim?

If you do, please use native species

My cat appeared with pic related inside my house I managed to pull it out of it's mouth.
It's a baby bird pretty much like the pic. It was yesterday I didn't know what to do so I left it in my kitchen thinking it would live for so long.

But just now I suddenly start hearing it's tweets the bird is fucking still alive. I have no idea where is the nest or else I would try to place it back there.

What the fuck I should do? Please no killing I want it to leave but no idea how should I feed it.

ground up bait bugs and worms or meat baby food ir cat food (blended) in an eye dropper or feeding syringe every 20 minutes or so for 6 weeks or until you get someone from a wildlife place to take care of it, overfilling its crop will kill it be careful and warch videos on handfeeding birds it likely will never be able to live outside

Hey /an/

First year wildlife student here. Already loving my this major and I couldn't imagine myself studying anything. Already getting involved and getting experience as well

<me with tranquilized deer

My wildlife school is fairly small though and in the rural south, so most professors and students are interested in feral pigs and deer, which isn't really my thing.
So my question is for the wildlife biologists, as well as the students, on this board. What do you guys do? What are you studying and where? I'd like to get a better idea of what all is out there.

My pug has been dragging her ass against the carpet for a while now and keeps scratching herself non stop.

Vet said it wasn't fleas or anything serious. He prescribed my dog a lotion for dermatitis, pills, and gave her a shot.

Hasn't worked and it's been a month

Any home remedies or something that works?

What kind of food are you feeding her? Sounds like a food allergy. Also, it might help if you bathe her in oatmeal-based shampoo
