I just got back from a bike walking with my dog.
She's a pitbull like dog, but she's pretty much a mix of husky, german shepard and somekind of bull terrier.
She's extremely sweet, but she gets a little to excited when she sees another dog.
Some people see that and think she is going to hurt the dog for some fucking reason, but if they're caught by surprise they don't get scared because she's automaticaly licking and playing with the other dog.
Now, as i said i just got back from a bike walking with her, and she got explosive when we got close of a dog.
As i didn't see the dog at time i couldn't prepare myself to keep my dog in the leash, and she runned for the licking job.
I falled of my bike, and she scaped.
Now, until now it looks like it's an accident.
The problem is the guy literally got agressive at the second he saw my dog, and when she scapped he attacked her withouth even thinking about it.
She runned away before he could do any harm.
In a normal situation, where my dog was close from me, i would have that guy sodomized, but she runned so in the second i was able to get back at my bike i just ran away too.
She is a very smart dog and, after a couple of walks she already knew her way home and didn't have a problem getting back to our house.
She doesn't look injuried in any way, but i kinda fell like this guy assaulted us.
I don't know if i can do something agains't him because this is the first time something like this happens, most of the times when she scapes or a dog runs for us she's very friendly and people quickly notice it.

Your dog was "off leash" because her leash wasn't in your hand, so you can't really do anything about it. Just try to avoid the asshole, and keep her leash tied to your bike so she can't get away so easily.

Sometimes, I come to the conclusion that - if I ever manage to have my own house (lol, fat chance) - it would be good for me to get a dog, so that at least I can have someone to keep me company and who can miss me, but who will also make me have to be responsible, so that I don't get too detached from reality.
I think I want a rottweiler, or a labrador.
My only question is: how do so many normalfags have dogs? Housebreaking and general training seem to be pretty time-intensive, and I'd probably only be able to do it if I were a NEET, because there's no way I could do it with an 8-hour job.
Also, I keep hearing about how shit dog food from the stores is, so would it be a good idea to feed it scraps from the table? I mean as in: bits of chicken or beef or lamb that I discard and don't cook, some eggs every so often, stuff like that (I know they aren't supposed to eat chocolate and avocados and a whole bunch of other vegetables onions).
This is all hypothetical, since I'm about as far off from purchasing my own home as humanity is from colonizing the galaxy.
P.S. Why is it most dog-owners on the internet are total assholes? I've seen a bunch of forums with well-meaning people asking legitimate questions like "Why is my puppy acting this way? Did I do something wrong?", and so many people who are currently dog-owners reply with the most condescending shit like "WOW, maybe it's YOU who's acting wrong" or "LOL, it's so obvious that puppy is more intelligent and assertive than YOU," or "HAHA, YOUR PUPPY WON'T EVEN LISTEN TO YOU? YOU'RE OBVIOUSLY NOT MEANT TO OWN ONE, GET A CAT"

Labs are super high energy puppies, but easier to train than a rottie. I've had 2 labs and a rottie when I was a wee lad.
A lot of normal people don't train their dogs more than sit and shake, maybe lie down. Which doesn't take much time at all.
Housebreaking really doesn't take too long of actual effort. Just get a bell and hang it on your door handle, that speeds up the process.

I would say no, because it will expect more, and be nosy while you are cooking, and pissed when you don't give them any.

So I adopted a pitbull about 8 months ago. She a year and 2 months now. She is such a sweet, beautiful dog, but she is aggressive towards other dog (normal for a pit) and aggressive towards humans she doesn't know (not normal for a pit). Does anybody know a way to make her less aggressive? I'm scared she'll bite somebody and the state will have her euthanized. All help is appreciated! Pic related, it's my pupper.

I want to get another animal... either a kitten or a dog. But I already have two cats, and two cats that don't get along well at all. They mostly tolerate each other, but still. I feel bringing in another animal would just disrupt the tense harmony my house has.
So how do I stop wanting more animals? Like I know it's a bad idea, but I can't stop wanting to adopt another. How can I finally just convince myself to not to?

I have pic related in a corner of my living room by some windows. My cat absolutely loves it and spends most of the time he isn't sleeping playing around in that corner. I'd like to get him something else to add to that corner of the room to make it "his" a little bit more. He already has a cat bed, a condo, some tunnels, and cardboard scratchers elsewhere in the house. Any idea for what I could add that I'm missing?

Hi /an/! Anyone here have experience with medical alert dogs? I really want to get a puppy and train it to alert me of impending migraines, (Which have become debilitating over the past few years) but since I live in an apartment and probably will for the next 10 years, I need a small dog, preferably 30 pounds or less. I'd also like for it to be able to do /out stuff with me like hiking, etc.
Any breed suggestions? It seems like most medical alert dogs or service dogs are the size of golden retrievers or larger.

Yeah, they go through the same training as diabetic shock alert dogs. I've heard of all kinds of dogs being able to detect whatever "migraine scent" is, so I guess I'm looking for trainability.

I have to say, I do feel it. I am pretty normal and all, and I would of course never actually do any of it, but I do get that feeling sometimes. Like I will pet my dog and hold his paw, and then suddenly I will get this urge to squeeze his paw. Some time during the Spring, right around April I think, my friend got two pet ducks out of nowhere. Her dad bought them from a local animal feed store. One died (thank god) and one continues to live in her garage. He sleeps on some kind of bed comforter, which mind you, is covered in duck shit and duck feathers and God knows what else. The entire garage floor is caked in layers of duck shit and duck disease. I don't know for a fat whether it's diseased but I'm sure it can't be good for you.
Would someone care to weigh in on this? Is this animal abuse? We live in Chicago, so he has to be freezing his duck balls off. I've hinted to my friend how much I hate the duck and how disgusting her garage is because of him but I don't think she gets the picture.
What can I do, /an/? Is it animal abuse? Is the garage now a bio-hazard? Can someone weigh in on this? I don't have any photos of the garage unfortunately, I haven't been in there recently (you can imagine why)

I think you're overreacting. As far as the duck goes it doesn't get that much better than this for domestic fowl. And temperature, it's fine if it's in shelter.
For your friends sake that is gross but catching some weird duck disease is incredibly unlikely. Concerns of mice may be slightly more likely but you could just buy her a lidded canister for the food and fix that much.
Imagining you contact authorities then nothing better will happen. If it is an area where livestock animals aren't allowed they'll fine her, seize it, and kill it. If it is allowed there then they almost certainly won't care because she isn't starving or torturing it and they have better stuff to do.

Found this whilst taking the pooch down to the creek as usual. Started looking closely and there were plenty of them of all sizes. Neighbor says it's coal or graphite, I looked online and I think it's jet? Was wondering if there was someone here that paid attention to the gem & stone portion in middle school science class. Sounds good in theory, but I work for a microchip company and I can tell you that 8/10 calls to the lost pet department are people reporting that they've found a cat. If people called in every cat they saw it would make it really difficult for people who are actually missing their pets to get a hold of us. Plus owners who are already aware that their cat was outside are likely going to be annoyed that A) someone scooped their cat off the street B)the fact that we called at all.

Having kids around when a pet is euthanized.
One of our cats has been sick on and off for awhile now. We just got a call from our vet saying that he's almost certainly in or about to go into renal failure. His recommendation was euthanasia. My wife and I are talking about whether to have our 5 year there when it happens. Growing up I was there for my pets, but my wife wasn't. I think he's old enough to understand what's going on but my wife disagrees and thinks he's still too young and it would just upset him. We had another cat die of old age three years ago, and we're always careful to say the cat died (not he went away or things like that). Has anyone had to deal with this?
