Hey guys - I have a terrarium that I originally wanted to put dart frogs in. Turns out that it just gets too hot inside for frogs to thrive.
What other kind of animals/insects could I put in a rainforest-like, humid terrarium?
I was thinking about mantids, but want to know other suggestions.
THANKS!
How does it get too hot? Is your heat source not on a thermostat or is your location too hot to maintain mid to high 70's reliably

The weather makes it really hot in my apartment. I could keep the AC on, but that would be too expensive.

Im having a hard time thinking of anything that could live in something that size and wont cook in >80 temps besides maybe something like a fire skink

Saw a raccoon laying in the parking lot when I got home tonight, wasn't sure if it was rabid or just sick. It was pretty small, like adult cat sized and just laying out in the open behind (not under) a car. I went up to it to see if it was dead and talked at it but it was unresponsive for a while.
When I finally did get a reaction it kept opening and closing it's mouth. Couldn't exactly tell what it was doing since it was dark and I was a good distance away but there was a lot of mouth movement but I couldn't hear anything. It got on it's hind legs and continued to lift it's head higher while opening & closing it's mouth until it's head tipped back and it fell over. At this point I just left.
Why would a raccoon do this? Was it rabid?
poor raccoon friend

>Was it rabid?
yeah, probably.
Could be distemper which has similar symptoms to rabies in raccoons.
Hey dudes
Any ID on this spider? I found a couple and some eggs in my car.

it's a brown recluse. rip op, you're probably already dead.

I see why you'd say that, but it's not the same color as they usually are, right?
Plus I'm not sure it's native to my area. I live in southeast ga, United States
So,my dog has been aggressive towards other dogs for a very long time,it might me be my fault because he only socialized with other dogs when I walked him.He keeps his tail down around dogs, but he only does it around the house and not anywhere else,he barks at other dogs with the intention of biting, also he likes to hide from my other dog.I have tried to make them get along by putting them face to face, but the same thing happens,he barks. Please,I need some sort of help on this or I'll have to get rid of my newest dog.

Ez, when he starts acting like a little bitch, just smack the shit out of him. He'll learn. Bark shit get hit.

Take your dog, take a sack of potatoes, empty it of potatoes, grab your dog by the paw and yank it up to your face (if his leg falls off that's epic) and drop him onto the bag, take a brick and drop it into the back, then tie it up, drown the dog for 5 seconds, and then let him loose in your house, if he tries to bite set him on fire briefly and then douse him with your piss, doesn't matter which dog btw, if you brickdrownburn your old dog it will teach the new one to fear you.

New bad taxidermy thread: Soft mount addition
Soft mounts or 'plushidermy' are when those kids obsessed with wolves get a hold of money, stuffing, glue and $400 pelts.

Is it worth criticizing adolescents who're into adolescent hobbies, while also learning a skill that they could later turn into a career?

There's already an active bad taxidermy thread.

hey guys, ive been thinking about getting some gainsbirds for unlimited eggs and making my own chicken coop for them, but im worried about the winter. Where i live (atlantic canada) it gets really cold in the winter (sometimes -40º C). Ive done some research and it says they deal well with the cold and not to insulate the coop due to moisture, but im a bit sceptical, i dont want them to freeze to death. what do?
My guess would be that you can insulate a coop if you add a vent and something to heat it, but I'm no handyman.
The Homegrowmen threads on /out/ could help you, and /diy/ will likely be the best board to ask.
Does anyone here know anything about crabs? Are those eggs? If they are, how do I make sure they survive?
>>2444222
They don't. The eggs hatch and the young are planktonic.

so they protect the eggs by themself?

Hey guys. I've been taking my dog daily to the dog pound in an attempt to red pill her on the mass incarceration of her species. What do you think will come of this?

Do any of you own a hound dog?
This is my 10 month old Basset Hound. He likes to counter surf, drink out of the toilet and sneak under my fence to play with his female doggo friend. I haven't got him neutered yet and I"m thinking about breeding him in the future since he's pure blood basset hound. I love the saggy skin, the long ears and the way they howl.
Does anyone have experience breeding these types of dogs and what kind of advice could you give a beginner if I decide to get a female basset hound and breed them.
>>2444027
The saggy skin creeps me out, it looks unhealthy.
You don't necessarily have to buy a female, you could look into breeders who want a sire. There are situations where the owner of the female seeks a male for their dog to mate with, so they sign a stud contract to pay a fee to the owner of the male.
You'll need to extensively research the genetics of your dog and the breed in general. You'll also need to health-test your dog to make sure he would make a good stud in the first place. And if he doesn't, you shouldn't breed him. But the way you describe it, it sounds you're looking to become something that's called "backyard breeder". That means someone who's just breeding dogs out of the simple wish to have puppies and possibly profit off of them. In contrast, reputable breeders are familiar with the breed's bloodlines, genetics and working purposes.
It's possible that I'm wrong and just assuming things, but that's the impression I get from your question. If you want to be a reputable breeder rather than a backyard breeder, you should start doing a lot of research. I don't know if there are any good books on this topic but the internet has material that can be found pretty easily, like for example here:
