Is your cat an outside cat? Probably picked it up from crawling through the bushes. Then felt it crawling through it's ass hairs and freaked out.

Don't know if it's the right place (there's no gardening board), but maybe some /an/on has greener thumbs than I.

I was given a very large branch of a lovely jasmine shrub from a relative, and I've placed short sections of it (~25cm) in water, hoping they'd send out roots from between the segments so I can later plant them in soil; but (while still alive and green) they don't take out roots, as other segmented plants have for me.

I've very little experience, is there a way to encourage it to grow, like adding certain nutrients to the water? Or is this method not even feasible with jasmine? It worked for me with others.

They sell root hormones. You dip a cut end into the powder and then let it sit in water or something.

I don't know.
>>
>>2034049
Usually you're supposed to take cuttings in the spring or summer when the plant is actively growing. Sticking the cuttings in as well draining potting mix and keeping it moist is usually enough to get it rooted.

There's a gardening thread on /out/ that may be able to help you more than /an/.

>you're supposed to take cuttings in the spring or summer
It was given to me, and I wouldn't have had the opportunity to take it later this year unfortunately.

So my dumbass had impulse bought two "terrarium kits" from Lowes of bug eating plants. Probably not a wise idea. Comes with a dormant venus fly trap and a pitcher plant each, as well as a baggie of soil and sphagnum moss.

I just want to know what you guys think of this buy and how I can properly care for these little guys, or at least to give me some idea of what to do before I do more research. You guys (at least most of you) are awesome and really know your shit. I am a complete noob for the most part. All I've ever done was plant a few flowers and throw some water on their asses every so often. And I really do not trust the shit they have in the instructions for these guys. I've heard of so much misinformation about my pets in the past and see no reason why they would be accurate in this case.

So /an/ how many of you either work in /an/ careers or do wildlife photography or breed? I know we have a fair amount of people that work in research and breeders but I never see any photographers. Anything related to the hobby of animals and nature besides owning a pet.

I got this picture from google, there isn't any blood but the same seems to be happening to my parents' dog and he's also acting somewhat weird, not as happy as he usually is.
I'm worried about it but they don't want to bring him to the vet, could it be anything serious? He's 8 years old

I know this is probably not the place for this but I've gradually been shifting away from feeding my dog bagged processed pebbles of food to a more wholesome diet. I know most of you don't care about this kind of stuff.

I actually care about my dog and love to know that he's being fed real food with real ingredients that I cook instead of mystery pebbles that supposedly have good ingredients.

For example, I just fed him dried beef jerky with butternutsquash soup drizzled on top and then anchovies on top. Anyone else do this?

Lately I've been hearing a pretty big pack of coyotes less than 50 yards away in the woods behind my house.

It's hard to tell how many there are and I can't find on google how large a pack can be. Does anyone know? If I had to guess by their howls, maybe a couple dozen but probably way off.

They never got this close to until a couple years ago, and I'm not sure why. I always thought they only lost their shyness around hiking trails and public parks, but I live in rural Mississippi. I can't imagine there were any more pets, chicken, etc left outside at night 5 years ago than there are now.

Used to, I could barely hear them but now I hear them clearly over my TV or music.

Normal coyotes (most of the US and Canada) are solitary animals. They don't hunt in packs but a fair number can live in the same general area. These aren't dangerous bar rabies and as far as I now have never killed a human directly.

The eastern coyote, also called tweed wolves or the annoying "coywolf", in the Northeastern US and Canada they are actually hybrids of coyotes, eastern wolves, and domestic dogs. They can form hunting pairs or even small family based packs and grow about twice the size of a normal coyote but are no where near wolf sized. Still not very dangerous to people but have managed to kill a few people.
>>
>>2032370
It's probably not as many as you think. Coyote family groups make a ton of noise, especially when the older ones head out and come back from hunting. Since you're in rural Mississippi, think of it as like when rednecks go to visit relatives--they see cousin Jimmy Joe's truck coming up the drive and all spill out of the trailer, hootin' and a' hollerin'.

The groups are usually a breeding pair, maybe 1 or 2 offspring from the previous year, and the current year's pups. They're not as cohesive or stable as wolf packs and tend to disperse into solo animals when there aren't any pups.

Since they're more noticeable now they may have dug out a den and had pups somewhere behind your house. Or (since I don't know you) maybe you've gotten more observant over the years and are now picking up on things you missed before. Who knows?

It's a nice sound though. I grew up in rural Texas and it always reminds me of summer evenings as a kid.

Could I please get an ID on this vine?

Do dogs really eat their owner after he's dead?
32 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
Some do, some don't. If your dog stares at you frequently, it's probably one of the ones that does.
>>
>>2031426
it's only to preserve the owner's soul, so they could be together forever
>>
I work at a shelter, and we got in two pomeranians that were owned by an elderly man before he died. he fell and couldn't get up, and no one came for him so he died

no one found his body until two weeks later, and the dogs were loose in the house with no access to food aside from, well, him.. you can imagine how that went

they got adopted out to a nice family though. we weren't legally obligated to tell them, so we didn't. always felt weird about it.

Hey i want to learn more about prehistoric mammals. Specifically the ones that came after dinosaurs and before human Beings took over the world. It saddens me how little stuff there is on them compared to the dinosaurs.just any documentaries, websites or videos that would teach me a lot about the amazing animals during those times. thank you for your help. Also another small question. i was obsessed with "Walking with Prehistoric beasts" when i was younger and i just recently rewatched it but how accurate is it. because i heard that walking with dinosaurs and other prehistoric shows or movies often have a lot of problems.

walking with prehistoric beasts but a lot of smaller details are incorrect or new evidence has invalidated it like for example Gastornis was most likely a herbivore rather a then carnivore
>>
there isn't much on them because they're extremely boring.
>>
>>2030147
bugguy's right.
the public doesn't have much interest in Cenozoic mammals, so there isn't much out there in the form of videos aimed at adults.

Scientists are the opposite, they're way more interested in mammals than in dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. There's probably 20 times more scientific articles on extinct mammals than there are on any other group of animals.

It doesn't get much more boring than reading scientific papers though. It's like drowning slowly in lukewarm vanilla pudding while listening to news about british golfing tournaments.

And what ever else relates.

>have six-month old high-energy puppy
>mostly she chases the kitten around the house
>take her out for walks and to the small dog park several times a day
>she's still got energy, but the kitten helps

>energy sometimes leads her to forget her training and jump up out of excitement
>she's a puppy, it takes time
>have friend over
>he doesn't like animals in general
>my puppy knows him from almost the beginning of her life here, so she's bonded with him regardless
>I have a small spray bottle that I will use to help deter her when positive reinforcement isn't enough
>never really have to spray her, she will stop once she sees me go for it

>friend was over for a few days recently
>go to grab the spray bottle and my dog starts crying and hiding
>wtfisgoingon.omg
>dump out water in the bottle
>looks like diluted blood
>the smell instantly clears my sinuses and I gag
>he at some point put a massive amount of hot sauce in the bottle and had been aiming for her eyes
>yell at him for being a fucking massive dick
>he's still wondering why I'm mad

She would not enter any room where the spray bottle was. I threw it out.

This literally just happened.
