are they good pets
>>2447775
>weeee weeeee weeee weeee weeeee
It depends on what you're looking for.
They eat and shit constantly.
From my experience, they don't seem to really get attached to you or like you all that much (but they are totally comfortable screaming at you when they want something)
Good with kids though. They don't really bite and don't seem to care how you pet them.
The work involved is almost the same as that required for rabbits so you may want to consider a couple bunny buns instead if you have the space.
What is it? And whats going on here?
two different fly species mating to make a new super fly
Do rabbits really smell like shit all the time?

don't get your bunny wet, fix them, and clean their anal glands.
Which animal has the most awesome cry?
My cat wont let anybody pat or pick it up. It hates everybody. It only lets me pat it because I feed it the most I tried renaming it and it only sometimes comes to its new name. It comes in my bed but at my feet when nobody else is home. Any tips on how i can get it to like me more or any other family.
Some cats just don't care much for people.
First cat I had liked being picked up, petted, held on my shoulder like a baby, it would walk up to complete strangers for affection.
I got two cats that seem to have Maine Coon parentage and they do like being pet (at their own discretion), but don't like being picked up at all, and run and hide in their cat tree if the UPS man drops off a package at the front door and run for their lives if someone other than me is in the house.
I think some cats just be that way.
If there's any chance to change it, it's probably when they're kittens.
I need help people.
My 3 month kitten has diarrhea for 4 days now.
5 days ago my mother gave it half a slice of cheese to eat, and the next day it had diarrhea. She also stepped on it and made a mess on the floor.
I initially thought it was because of the cheese, but it continued a second day and I called the vet. He told me it's probably food related, and to give her very small portions of food until she is ok again. It's 4 days now, my vet is on vacation, and the kitten still has diarrhea. I have to be checking her sand constantly in order to instantly clean it up when she poops.
What do I do?
>>2447652
Find a better vet that still gives a shit about his patients even on vocation. Those are rare but they exist (i was lucky to find one). The kitten might have intestinal parasites. Examine his poo.
That said wtf was your mother thinking giving a 3 month old kitty human food?
>>2447652
take it to another vet if you're that concerned. baby animals get diarrhea often. don't know what to tell you. maybe feed it quality food instead of w/e is cheap at walmart if you aren't already
>>2447673
She has been dewormed and de-fleaed for at least 1.5 month now, ever since I got her off the street.
>That said wtf was your mother thinking giving a 3 month old kitty human food
I know, I even told her specifically not to give her dairy products
>>2447675
>maybe feed it quality food instead of w/e is cheap at walmart if you aren't already
I am feeding her Purina dry food, for kittens up to 1 y.o. I switched the specific type, about 3 days now, but it's still Purina. I don't think it has to do with her diarrhea though, since she had it 1 day before I switched dry food
I found what I'm pretty sure to be a brown recluse walking up my wall. I can't find it now though, which likely means it's planning to kill me in my sleep.
Tell me everything I can do in order to ensure it never appears again.
look up if you even live in their range

Hi /an/, I come to you for advice.
I'm babysitting a friend's cat while he's between houses for a few days, so the cat is staying at my apartment. The cat in question is a 10 year old male and he's pretty cantankerous. He hisses when people get close and has been hiding in a closet basically since the moment he got here 24 hours ago.
What worries me, though, is the fact that I don't think he's touched his water or food bowl since he got here. He just started wandering around the apartment, outside the closet, about half an hour ago. I went to find him and nudged his food and water bowls to him, but he just hissed at me and ignored the food/water. Now the hissing doesn't bother me but I would feel pretty bad if this cat just starved to death on my watch.
Is he just nervous because of the unfamiliar environment? Any advice on how I can get him to actually eat and drink? Pic unrelated, different cat.
>>2447607
Yes, cats often refuse food and drink when they are stressed. In my experience you just have to leave him alone, give him space and he'll start eating on his own eventually. Put the bowls in the closet
I need some advice about my cat.... He has bald patches on the back of his neck and he keeps ripping it open. It won't heal BC he won't leave it alone. Any advice????
ANYONE???

I have... I went to 3 theory gave me cream and wished me the best of luck.
Sup /an/, I posted a thread about two weeks ago about finding a fish on the side of the road. I kept him and named him doublemint dave. He now lives in a ten gallon aquarium with a bunch of plants and a hideout, but the problem is, i just found out about cycling your tank. I need tips on how to do a fish-in cycle. I've heard a lot of people saying that instead of doing extensive water changes that you should just add Tetra Safe Start (which is the bacteria), instead of waiting for the bacteria to establish. Need halp. Pic related is Doublemint Dave
self bump
Oh good job. I don't know how to cycle a tank after you've got the fish, but in a ten with just the one fish I bet you'll be ok regardless of what you do
>>2447486
Just do the water changes. It doesn't need to be as extensive as your guides say because you've got one fish in a 10 gallon.
Basically, without the bacteria to break down wastes, the waste builds up and kills your fish, but you've only got one small fish making waste in 10 gallons of water. Something like 20% every day or two should be more than enough for your situation.
Is the meaning of life to donate $300 every month and support 200 homeless cats, as well as keep 6 cats in my house? Or is it all about humans, like getting a job at PDG Rehab and helping overly sensitive aspie low IQ people attain jobs they feel comfortable with doing?

Cats destroy the ecosystem.
If you love nature, you will not help cats.
There is no cat shortage. Donate to something important.
Anyone know what these are?
They came out of the moss balls I have in my fish tank. Pen in picture is for size reference. They are very hard and smooth. Only fish in the tank is a male Betta whom I have had for about a year.
My filter uses activated carbon but the pieces are much larger and irregular in shape.
you touched shit
Seeds?
do you think fish can feel pain?

Can someone help me identify this plant and give some pointers for taking care of it so it grows to be longer? All I know is that it's a vine and extends about 4 feet up. It doesn't stick to the wall on its own so I pinned it
I live in western colorado and have a north facing window.
I can answer questions or post more pictures
>>2447387
It's a philodendron. You cannot kill it. Trim off the dead leaves when necessary., and if you have a 4' long trailer, trim it to 2.5' and the short trailer will be more vigorous.
IIRC, you can push a node from the cutting into the soil and it will root in a couple months.
Thanks! I can trim it but I don't really understand the second half of what you said.

I recently inherited a fair bit of property with a house and am looking for a guard dog. Any breed suggestions?
>>2447383
Depends on your climate. Area that stays mild to hot, Doberman. Area that gets between mild and cold Huskie or Shepard. Goes between hot and cold, get any dog and adequate housing for it.
>>2447383
I'm not going to put he energy in to fully formulate a post so here are the basics:
>many dogs, even from working line guarding breeds, are not naturally protective
>guard dogs are NOT aggressive; they must be raised lovingly and exposed to many different people and situations so they can better discern normalcy from threat
>protection training is very expensive but you could probably get by on sports with a protection element like Schutzhund or French Ring and even then it's still hard to find a dog temperamentally suited to this
>a dog that is guarding-capable is going to be a very challenging dog to own; they are confident, strong-willed, and seek challenge; they require a firm, experienced owner and lots of mental and physical stimulation
>these dogs are few in numbers and high in demand, so you may spend months on a waiting list to get a good dog, or even longer
With that:
Where is the property (climate will suffice)?
How many dogs do you want?
How much time and experience do you have?
How much money are you willing to spend per dog (includes initial price and shipping, possibly from Europe)?
