How do I get my puppy to calm down around my cat? She always follows the cat around very nervously and shakes like a vibrater with epilepsy. Then proceeds to get frustrated with kitty cause he won't play with her, and gets hissed/swatted by cat. Kitty is a bro so I'm not worried about him, he doesn't give a fuck unless the puppy really messes with him. Is this normal? Can they become best buds eventually? I'm sure some anons here have experience with this

Keep introducing them casually, and keep on doing your daily routine, showing that the cat is a friend by showing affection, etc.
Like with most things involving pups, its all about repetition.

I wouldn't go out of your way to get them friendly with eachother, it kinda just happens naturally from my experience.

Alright folks, I have a problem

I'm not familiar with /an/ so I'm sorry if I'm waltzing over board rules or something, but I need help

My 8 year old poodle, pic related, recently had to go through surgery to remove a fuckload of stones from his urethra and bladder. Baiscally he had to get his urethra turned around to make a bigger opening for his piss (and remaining stones + future stones) to come out

So now he's using that collar. Since his neck is pretty short he's having trouble drinking water, eating, etc. I need some tips both on how to regularly clear his "new hole" until it's properly healed and functional AND how to give him water with that bloody collar on. He can eat food just fine from shallow bowls, but drinking is a problem. What do?

so... the vet put a cone on your dog and didnt go over this stuff with you?
>>

I wasn't present when they did explain how to take care of things since I was at work. I was told how I should clean him up, but I'd like to know stuff like "how to properly hold him while cleaning to ease the pain" and such

Also I know nothing about how to deal with the cone

I'm no vet and I haven't had to deal with a dog martini in a long time, but couldn't you take the cone off for supervised feeding/drinking time?

A quick image search makes me think that you found a Giant Grey Moth friend if you're in the UK.

The bit dragging behind its abdomen is confusing because the picture is hella blurry. My guess is that it could be one of two things.

1. Moths of that size and type make cigar butt-looking cocoons. Maybe it's quite young and has some material scraps still stuck to it?

2. Maybe it's dying and some asshole bird or bat caused damage to its tiny intestines without properly being able to eat it so those are just kind of dangling there.

I'm not there in person, but if the texture is dry and paper-like, I'd guess the first. Damp and squishy would make the second, sadder one more likely.

The prairie dogs are the animals who have the most complex verbal languages next to humans.

Those squeaks aren't just "sounds"--they're words, with abstract meanings.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1kXCh496U0 [Embed]

Evidence indicates that the different species of prairie dogs speak different languages, and that prairie dogs of one species in different areas speak different dialects of the same language.

This is not mere "communication". They are speaking real languages, with nouns and adjectives.

So far, it's mainly the "alarm calls" that have been studied. These are how one prairie dog tells the others, "A yellow rectangular dog is coming".

There appear to be many other types of prairie dog speech which scientists have yet to be able to discern the meaning of.

when i worked at a ski resort during summer (it as still open for tourists to ride the gondola) there was one spot on the road that they prairie doggies liked to line up along and play suicide games. Every single time a car drove past, they would run across the road all at once. I am convinced they were doing it deliberately for the thrill of seeing how close they could get to the car without going under the wheels. They didn't do this when there were no cars. Only when a car came.

Just think - we might have human to prairie dog translation devices within our lifetime. We have so much to learn from then, and we have so much to teach. If his research is completed then he is opening to door for human-nonhuman communication in general! That's really exciting!

In aq thread I got ignored so

I'm having trouble rising my tank salinity to brackish levels. Trying to treat my guppies for ick. So far I've raised the temperature to 88 degrees and they like it. But some of my fry and two of my adult females are showing signs of severe stress and just sitting on the bottom or near the bottom

I've Raised the salinity to 3 ppt. II've used grocery store sea salt and can't raise it past 3 in the tank despite adding like 25 tablespoons of salt. How much should I put into my 10 gallon tank?
65 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>2055072
Add an aerotor to your tank. If you havent already done that then your just asking to kill off all your fish. 85 degrees is all you need, I would not go higher than that. The higher the temperature, the less oxygen is available to the fish, and Ich stops reproducing at 85 degrees, with one rare strain able to reproduce up to 92 degrees, but you almost definitely dont have that. The best way that I've found to treat ich is;
1. Raise temp to 85 (in your case lower)
2. Add SOME salt to the tank, definitely does not need to be brackish.
3. Feed often, and with good food, preferably using blood worms or baby brine shrimp more often along with dried food.
4. Wait. It takes 3-5 days for all the Ich to mature and die, and raising to 85 only keeps them from reproducing, it doesn't kill them. So you still have to wait for them (the ich) to fully mature and die.

Mucho gracias seƱor
>>
>>2055077
Also forgot to add.. water changes. Do them often. Like 10% a day. This is really to help counteract the amount of food you should be feeding them. The feeding is crucial, as a healthy, happy animal should naturally be more resistant to disease. That means not only feeding dried food, but foods that are 'treats' and the fish go crazy for like mysis, or blood worms.

Because they grew up with the alternative. They don't appreciate their giant, killing machine fantasy lizards being turned upside down on them.
If they don't like them thats fine. I love birds, and I'd be happy if every single 'dinosaur' had feathers but I appreciate the old school raptors too in the same way I do dragons and unicorns. Not just talking about scales vs feathers either but dexterity, almost prehensile tails, wrong posture but it still looks cool, etc.

Hey /an/

I'm in the process of being kicked out because I'm gay by my mother. I have a large apple snail and a hoplo (10cm long) in a 54 liter (14 gallon) tank. I'd hate to leave them behind because I'm sure she wouldn't take care of them and she'd let them die. My plans currently are to move in with my faternal aunt, but the tank is too heavy to move, obviously, even drained, and I'm not even sure she'll even take me, let alone me and a fucking aquarium. So yeah...

Anyway, what's the bare minimum a hoplo and an apple snail needs in order to survive? I can probably get a large bucket maybe a plastic basin, and I'll take the heater and internal filter with me, but i'm worried it's just not enough. Can anyone give me some advice? How long would they be able to survive in a place like that?

Why is a drained 14 gallon too heavy to move? I moved a 20 gal when I was a 100 lbs pregnant bitch. If I could do it, any healthy adult with working limbs can.

Her letting you take it is an issue, but c'mon, you can move that tank.

>Why is a drained 14 gallon too heavy to move?
this one is. I don't have a car or anything to move with anon. it's just me, one or two luggages, a backpack, and a laptop. She'll be home by 10-11AM, I will barely have time to pack my shit up and gtfo before then. And like I mentioned, I'm not even sure my aunt will take me. I'll just show up at her door tomorow unannounced, it's entirely possible she'll say she won't take me in.

Hello /an/
I am scared of spiders.
I want to beat this fear I'm thinking of getting a tarantula like pic related, obviously only after doing proper research and getting a proper set up going.
I did the same with snakes since i was afraid as well and got a corn snake now i have 3 snakes i absolutely love and aren't afraid of at all.
Do you think this is a good idea?
How good of a pet will a spider make?
Take into account I really don't like dogs or cats or affection seeking pets.

I'm the guy who advises the clueless dude in this thread >>2052476

I have been keeping tarantulas for a year, there's been a lot of trial and error involved. Google is **not** your friend. But I think they make great pets if you like spiders. They are basically pet rocks except for feeding time, you can catch them webbing, grooming, or drinking, but only if you're pretty much constantly watching. The hardest thing about owning them is you need to make sure the place you're living has no active pesticides. No spraying raid with tarantulas in the house either, it carries through the air. If you have a female terrestrial, she can easily live 20+ years. So this is a commitment. They are easy enough to sell to someone else if your life changes in that time, just make sure the buyer knows what they're doing.

You basically want the opposite of what the person I linked in the thread has. He has a fast-moving, defensive, highly venomous tarantula with higher humidity requirements than what I would call "bone dry" tarantulas which do just fine with a water dish and no extra humidity. There are like 100 species that fit my criteria for beginner tarantulas. However, since you're scared of spiders, I'd also suggest you get something generally slow moving (some people label them as "docile" but these people have no idea what they're talking about, it's usually justification for handling them, which is bad). Some bone dry, terrestrial, slower moving tarantula genuses include Brachypelma, Grammostola, Aphonopelma. Pretty much just pick whatever you think looks prettiest, because any individual you pick could be more skittish than you expect, or just not give any fucks. Pic is my Aphonopelma chalcodes demonstrating a good height for a terrestrial tarantula enclosure. They are very vulnerable to sheer falls.

If you have questions do ask. Substrate can be something simple like coco peat/fiber since you dont need to care about it holding humidity. No sand.

I'm really liking the overall looks of these Grammostola Rosea I'm seeing at the store I usually buy stuff at.
Thing is I'm not sure if i'd be able to handle them as they creep me out a fair bit, but maybe a welding glove would solve that to an extent no?
Do you have any care tips toward the species i mentioned?
And honestly I'm completle ok with pet rock, its better like that so i can get used to it. Took me 2 months to be able to handle my snake.

Also white spider is way creepier than the spiders i've been looking at

Why is my cat suddenly Fucking fat? Her diet hasn't changed recently and her brother always fucks with her and loses wrestling matches so she's active af.

Should I put her on the treadmill?

What's a reasonably priced, nutritious dry food for adult cats?
44 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>>2051537
Dry food is quite unhealthy for cats, if you can't afford a meat-based canned food then don't get a cat
>>
>>2051537
No such thing, dry foods are horrible for cats and dogs.

Go with wet food. Or, if all else fails, just pick a dry kibble that has as little fillers and plant ingredients as possible. Then every morning fill the bowl up with a healthy amount, add just enough water to get it moist, then crack a raw egg over it and stir it up. Let it sit long enough for the dry kibble to soak up the moisture and raw egg.

This isn't as good as a high quality wet food, but it will still help to prevent everything from gum disease, to kidney failure, to cat shit that reeks to high heaven.
>>
>>2051556
Ummm wet food is terrible for cats and dogs. Purina is a good, reasonably priced ,easy to find food brand.

I found this cat on the road. It was hit and can't walk. Right now I have it in a box in a dark, closed room. What do? I was going to go to the vet tomorrow. I asked two homes if he was theirs but he's not so no idea if he's stray or not. This is in the country btw.

vid(dot)me(slash)AN3g
It was meowing like that all the time I was bringing it home and while I was holding him. He hasn't showed any signs of aggression but he definitely is scared. He hissed once when I checked on him in his box and got a bit close. The meowing in that video is from me touching him and waking him up, although his eyes were wide open before I bothered him. I think he had his eyes closed when I checked on him earlier though. I haven't given it food or water, should I do that? It doesn't look skinny at all.

Thanks
