Any of you guys have hamsters?

Do you train them?

I had a dwarf hamster when I was a kid but it didn't live long. I don't think I had any idea how to properly take care of it to be honest.

I have one.
well, my kid has one, but that's the same thing.

he doesn't train it. It bites, he's never really done much with it except let it out in its ball.

>he's never really done much with it except let it out in its ball.

That's probably why he bites. Or your kid has food on his hands or something tasty. Get him to wash his hands before handling it. And you should wear a glove and handle it more. Since he bites, don't pick him up yet.

Do a thorough clean of its cage and reintroduce yourself and your kid slowly. Do not touch the hamster for two weeks. Take some toilet paper tissue and rub it on your skin. Hamsters love toilet paper and will bring it to their beds. It will have your smell on it. While your waiting the two weeks to handle him, give him treats. I usually give mine yogurt drops or let them lick peanut butter off my finger.

Associate hands with good things. I've raised my girls and they've never bit me because I respect them and they totally trust me. I even put my kitten in their cage (a kitten that's laid back) just to smell and see a new creature and its weird how they had no fear of her even though they had never met a cat. She was gentle, so nobody friggen try this shit OK? Just saying.

Can you give me some hamster tips? I'm thinking about getting one.

Do they cost a lot in vet care or whatever?

Any diseases they're prone to or spread?

what's the mechanism behind "cuteness"? Why we see stuff like pic related we suddenly feel warm and fuzzy, and we want to cuddle and protect them? Is it some sort of defense? Are we the only specie that feels like this?

Seems like a basic social creature thing, like I'm assuming it's similar to feeling things like empathy, pity, for something, and so on.

I'm not quite sure why it is especially for males so difficult a concept to deal with. Also there are things in the animal kingdom like a male lion that kills cubs of another lion, but may play with cubs of his own (I'm making the assumption that adult animal engaging in play is somewhat close to the "human finding something cute"). I guess most of us come around at least once we have a child of our own, no matter how masculine men we were.

I don't know if this makes any sense, I just wanted to say something a bit more than just saying it's parental instinct.

Dogs evolved to be cute so humans would take care of them more :3

Humans are engineered since childhood that outer beauty doesnt matter, what matters most is how kind a person is..

when it comes to dogs its quite the opposite, people care about how their dog looks, does it look like a wolf? instant purchase. is it cute like a lion? boom, get me that shit. does it look like a dog? pound.

but the one thing to blame is patriarchy

I recently put my cat on a wet food diet after realizing she was pretty fat from dry food free feeding.

Now I'm worried she is losing too much weight. I read something before that an owner should be concerned if there is a loss of weight near the neck/back area. She looks very odd proportionally right now. Does anybody have any clue what I'm referring to?

Pic is said cat. Her name is shakey.

Are you feeding her enough? What brand?

Why aren't you asking the vet if you notice a sudden drop in weight? Too much weight loss is grounds for going to he vet.

What about her litter box behavior? If she has diarrhea that could also contribute.

Also, stop bumping. /an/ is slow, very slow.

Guys i really need somebody to comfort me right now.
I feel so fucking horrible with the way this planet is at the moment. I have so much to complain about that it's not even worth it to write all down. People are so fucking selfish and it's killing me.
I just watched a video on the truth about egg production and as you probably expect it's more than disgusting.

Convince me not to kill as many human beings as i can

So, i'm looking after a friend's cat, i've never met it before because I haven't been around to his place since he got with his new girlfriend (actually her cat). It's incredibly friendly and smoochy with humans, however it's an absolute cunt to my dogs.

Basically, I have 2 Australian Shepherds, and they are super friendly. The first couple of days I let the cat do it's own thing and left it without introducing the dogs for more than a few seconds. It hisses and my dogs know it doesn't want to be disturbed and they keep their distance/leave.

but after a couple more days, this cat has realised that my dogs will not hurt it or anything, so it just attacks them from hiding spots whenever it can. And even chases them down hallways and etc.. whenever they come near it.

My male dog doesn't really care, he seems to be handling it better, sort of standing off sometimes when he doesn't want to move, or really wants to get from downstairs to my room upstairs and the cat is up the top, he'll slowly make his way past it and it won't hiss and slap at him for being cautious. (i've never seen him so tense in my life when he does this)
However my female dog (who ironically is usually the most ready for a confrontation outside of this situation) is just uttely terrified of it, and here's the kicker, she grew up with a cat, the male didn't.
I can see the utter fear in her face when I hear her whinging and come downstairs where she's hiding under a table, and looks at me with pitiful eyes of abandonment.

So basically I am forced to lock either the cat away in a room by itself, or the dogs in my room with me.

I don't want to risk sleeping again and letting them loose to sort their shit, because that just resulted in an escalation of this cat's shitty beheaviour the last time I did it. (no scratch marks on noses or anything yet, but if this cat causes my dogs any injury with his shitty attacks, i'll be locking it in a room for the entire month it's staying here)

Another issue is that it's unpredictable as fuck, one moment my boy will actually lay down next to it in my room, and it'll look at him, then lay back down to sleep, and the next minute it will get up, he'll move his head to see what's going on (hearing that the cat moved) and it'll hiss and slap/scratch him. One minute it'll walk past them and they it without a problem, the next it'll get near em, haunch it's back, hiss and slap/chase them.

I get that the cat is new to the house and will be anxious, so i'm basically keeping the dogs with me and letting the cat wander around and get more confident/comfortable before I make any major decisions regarding what I do next.

But any tips on handling this terrorist cunt of a cat? I'm not letting my dogs develop some anxiety problem or unnecessary fear of cats just to give this cat a nice month of staying here.

TLDR : What kind of Kong does/did your puppy have? Any particular advice on Kong toys?

Hey /an/ I just got an 8 weeks lab puppy

Thinking about getting him a Kong toy for crate training (the ones you stuff food in) to keep puppy busy and happy

There's a bunch of kinds and sizes, and I'm wondering which one should I get?

Would a red one do or do I really need a puppy-specific one?

I'm worried about the size : I want it to keep Lascaux busy for more than 5 minutes, but I've read about some puppies getting their jaw stuck in the hole

Don't spend too much money on toys, you're going to need it later for trainers and vet bills. Adult dogs from BYBs are generally a mess.

trolling aside I agree. it's either niggers who buy them becuase they look tough and don't train them, or annoying pitbull apologist women who keep sharing vids of pitbulls with kittens or some shit and writing "careful, that pit might viciously attack you with kisses!"

So lately I've been trying to figure out what some of the plants/trees around me are. I've managed to find out what most of them are, not I haven't had any luck with this one. It's like a small bushy tree, small start shaped yellow flowers. Does anyone know what plant this is? I live in the Sydney area of Australia, so that should rule of some stuff. I'll post the few pictures I took.

I reckon life begins at conception, not at birth.

Hi /an/ in need of advice.

My gf has a mini rex, she got a month or so ago. We took it for a health check when we got it and the vet said everything was fine.

A couple of days later we noticed the rabbit was drooling so it went to the vet who said it was an abscess which could be drained for £150 plus 50 for anti-biotics/painkiller etc.

The vet then suggested after a follow up check that she see a teeth specialist. The specialist quoted £750 and said that included draining the abscess which, apparently, hasn't been drained.

He then said that after this there was a strong chance of ongoing dental work and it might be better to put the rabbit down (after spending another 150 on a blood test and some cream).

We're not sure what to do and what to do given the vets' conflicting stories (fine/abscess/terminal). The rabbit is starting to eat whole foods again using her teeth and is generally bearing up. I've no experience of rabbits but looking at the rabbit now I can't help think it's unethical to put it to sleep. Is there something that can be done or are we just delaying the inevitable?

feed it with stuff that makes it grind it's teeth and you shouldn't put it down unless you can't control the bunnies teeth growth which you can by feeding it the right things
like
spinach
selleri
broccoli
cabbage (only like a leaf or two a day)
carrots (only in small amounts)
cauliflower

always give it at least three of the things each day!
