As you've probably heard, Popocatepetl erupted with Pavlof in Alaska erupting right afterwards. Do you know what this means? It's stress building up and down this stupid side of the hemisphere. Think about it, we've had really large earthquakes in Alaska and Chile for a while now. It's just a matter of time before we get the Big-fucking-One earthquake in California.
Sayonara, /an/als. It's been nice knowing you.
they've been talking about this for 20-25 years now. at this point lets just get it over with
I live in the middle of no where and nothing can fall on me so idc. Feel bad for the suckers in LA and SF. Imagine being in a skyscraper when it hits. That would blow.

Can i teach my dog to fart on my command. He is pretty obedient dog
No point in not trying.
1. Keep treats on hand
2. Wait for fart
3. Dog farts
4. Praise with fart command word
5. Give treat
6. Repeat
Taught my dog to scoot his butt on command like this.

My rose molted while I was away on spring break... I came back to top off her water before the molt happened, but I am worried the humidity wasn't high enough for her.
Part of her old exoskeleton is still attached to her. It has been there for a few days. I havent done anything to take it off because it doesnt interfere with her movement.
Should I try to take it off? Should I let her deal with it?

Okay I need help. The short story is my cat was getting lethargic and thin so I took her to the vet on Saturday; unknown liver problems and daily IVs were the result. A few days later after no improvement I brought her in again, got an ultrasound and the tldr is I had to put her down as there were no options other than to let her die in misery.
This cat was everything to me, I had her since I was 8 and have never cared so much about another living being nor has one given me so much unconditional love, I'm just lost. I feel physically sick when I think about the fact she actually died and that I'll never see or hold her again (had to walk out before putting her down, hate me all you want but I couldn't do it) while occasionally breaking down and crying when thinking about her at all, normally when I felt horrible she'd be around to comfort me but I don't even have this.
Even through my own selfish desires to keep her alive, there was no reason to; the cat I knew was already gone and the one that laid before me was a lifeless husk lying in pain with her internal organs going full retard. Making the decision to euthanize her wasn't the hard part, forcing myself to walk out of the room and never see her again was, and at that that was hardest thing I've ever done in my life. I had the option to take her home for a day but what good would that have done for anyone? I'd just be more depressed, have to make another goodbye and she'd suffer longer. Between the crying and nausea I'm not sure if my numbness is from already mentally letting her go (let's face it, even on Saturday I was already starting to lose it and knew this wasn't going to end well) and accepting it or if I'm still in shock and denial. I don't feel guilty, there's nothing I could have done, I had no way to prevent this but I just feel terrible.
I don't even know what the point of this blog was but if anybody can help me feel less like shit I'd appreciate it.

It disgusts me to even think about this but I was planning to after a while.
Hey /an/,
I need some advice. I've been slaving away at an office job for the last 5 years and I want to make a change. I've thought about going to school to pursue something in the veterinarian field.
Anyone have any insight into the pros/cons of the job? (ie, vet tech, vet technologist, veterinarian)
Vet is least money of all med shit
>>2090405
Vet student here. Also britfag, so some of this might not be relevant.
I decided to go back to Uni after being a carer. Vet school is bloody competitive, everyone has the grades, I believe you need a 3.8+ GPA as an american, they wanted AAA at A-level for us brits (chem, bio, another science.) You're also expected to have shed loads of work experience, everything from farms to shadowing vets. We had 2500 applicants for 125 places the year I was accepted if that gives you any idea of how competitive it is: everyone has the grades, so they tend to separate people by work experience.
However, that said, if you really do think vet is your cup of tea, I would STRONGLY suggest you go shadow an actual vet. Go do your work experience, go work at a rescue center, go spend time working your ass off at a farm, shadow a vet for as much time as possible and then if it's still your dream then I say go for it. I bloody love my degree, I spend my entire time doing what I love.
The job at the end is stressful, you don't get paid enough, and the debt (esp for americans) is unreal but in my mind it's the best job in the entire world.
Do you have any more specific questions? Happy to answer any you have!
On a side note, don't be a vet if you "just" love animals, you need to love science, not animals. You need to love the problem solving of client's pets and love learning (lifelong learning and all that jazz in our oath). Veterinary is not fluffy, we do not get to cuddle puppies all day.

This, >>2090412 if you're looking at DVM.
If you're thinking about a technician position, check to see what kind of laws and regulations are involved in your area.
I applied for an accredited tech program in my area and they required you to shadow a vet for a certain number of hours before they'd even admit you. I'm fucking glad, because it turns out that I live in a region that doesn't require techs (who are essentially nurses, and do everything we expect human nurses to actually be trained and certified for) to have any formal training or certification. The DVM I shadowed- and it took me far too goddamn long to find one who cared enough to let me- was amazing, but I was the laughing stock of the office while I was there. All the techs around here started off as kennel grunts and were trained on site. No vet's office in my area wants to pay extra for a "know it all" (in the words of one of the DVMs) upstart with actual education in the field. That office didn't even accept my application for kennel work after I'd been there several months helping out in that capacity for free.
I ended up dropping the program even though they accepted me after that. It might be better in places where certification is a requirement, or if you go into it realizing that you're going to start as a minimum wage, poop-mopping, disposable set of hands and will maybe luck out and move to a slightly more respected position after a couple years.
TL;DR- This field isn't going to be as happy and rewarding as you probably think it is.
Serious question. Are any places in the world still domesticating cheetahs?
Domesticated and tamed are not the same thing.
>>2090388
I am perfectly aware anon. But considering the Egyptians had them domesticated, I am wondering if anyone still does this. As in, has been breeding them in captivity for some generations and not just catching them wild, or having cubs that are only one generation raised in captivity.
>>2090392
They weren't domesticated. They were tamed. If I breed 10 generations of lions, it doesn't make them domesticated. The Middle East and Asia also had cheetahs and some middle eastern countries still have pet cheetahs as a status symbol.
And no, no one is 'trying' to actually domesticate cheetahs. In North America alone there is only a little over 200 in zoos. They are much more expensive than other big cats. They aren't readily bred, there's a whole mess with how shitty their genes are due to the lack of genetic diversity and have tight import/export laws so its a big, difficult deal to get wild caught cheetahs to try and improve the gene pool(which is also horrible in the wild - cheetahs are pretty fucked in general).
What are your thoughts on keeping small monkeys as pets?
I had a small pet grivet monkey when I was younger and lived in africa, but I moved when me and the monkey were really little and we had to leave the little girl behind so I don't remember much other than it growing really affectionate really fast.
I've been researching and apparently its illegal to get them here in Canada, and many people say its cruel or inhumane since monkeys are very social animals and need to be with their kind. However anecdotes from people who have owned monkeys say that as long is its not a horny as fuck male, they are well behaved animals.
I'm not actually thinking of importing a fucking monkey that would be a ridiculous hassle, but sometimes I wonder what it'd be like if I kept my grivet. You can't have a dog or a cat climb your shoulder and just chill there while you walk around the house and hand them shit to play with or eat like you can with a grivetbro.

>What are your thoughts on keeping small monkeys as pets?
No. Not against keeping rescues but just the stress of ripping their babies away from the mothers alone bothers the shit out of me. Monkeys are dumb little, basic humans to me in that while a kitten can be well off without a mother, primates need that nurturing and learning they would get from their family.
>However anecdotes from people who have owned monkeys say that as long is its not a horny as fuck male, they are well behaved animals.
Tell that to all the people who are attacked by primates. They are unpredictable and at the same time people forget that they AREN'T just little humans. Just google 'pet monkey attack' and its flooded with people who never thought their precious baby could do such a thing. No 'reputable' place or primate expert would condone a pet monkey.
I'm not against exotic animals but I rather someone own a tiger than a monkey.
Naw senpai, monkeys are just above the nig nogs, except there cool human-kin. That is if they are trained.
I've recently purchased two marimo moss balls ( one approximately 1.5 inches and the other no more that 0.5 inches) and a 20cm fish bowl for my desk.
I was wondering if there was anything else I could put in the fresh water that wouldn't require a pump- with the water being changed weekly.
I'm open to any suggestions!
Other plants, shrimp etc.
Thank you /an/!
There really isn't any thing you could do to change the water other than pour it out of the bowl or pump it out due to the shape it cannot have a filter in there.
I'm aware of this- I mean is there any other creature I could put in there that's small enough and wouldn't require a pump
Sorry for the confusion
Not sure if this is really related to this board but today on a walk I found two dead squirrels. No signs of trauma, no blood, just them laying splayed out on the sidewalk within some feet of one another. I've never seen a dead mammal that hadn't obviously been hit by a car or sometime, or was an aged pet, let alone two of them, so I'm wondering if I should be worrying about plague or something.

Maybe a seizure? Most regular vets are closed, but I'm sure there is an animal hospital around that you can take your dog to that will be open today.

There's this plant in my backyard that I can't identify. I can't even categorize it as a monocot or dicot plant. I literally have nowhere to begin with, and since it just started growing out of nowhere from store-bought soil, there's not much other information I have to offer. Can anyone help me identify it?
Sorry that it's rotated. This always seems to be a problem when uploading from mobile.
Some sort of Bryophyllum?

So I found a tiny baby mouse during an egg hunt and I want to keep him. Can /an/ tell me how to care for this particular species? I found him shivering and he won't move unless I touch him.
>>2089924
The kind known to almost always carry from birth tapeworms, roundworms and hookworms...
Well I'd like to keep him if he doesn't have all that.
Get rid of him before you get the plauge m8
If you want a mouse just go to a pet store
My snake has had a bump near its tail for the past year. She seems happy and otherwise healthy but I am concerned because the end of her tail is much thinner than the rest of her body. Does anyone recognize this?
A picture from the underside
Better focus
It's a little garden snake I found in the backyard so I don't want to take it for a 60 dollar vet visit just to find out its normal.
