That fish
>One of the greatest rarities ever feen.
you got it OP
Hello /an/. google isn't really helping in this situation, and just shows me advertisements for expensive anxiety chew tablets and gimmicky looking sprays.
So, my newly adopted female cat is probably incredibly retarded, and I'd like to help her? As funny as that is, she really isn't smart and doesn't comprehend when things/ other cats are there or not? If she smells a cat, she acts as if it's there in front of her, for example.
Anyway, the real issue is her anxiety, which her absolute stupidity probably doesn't help. She appears to be afraid of everything? When I pick her up, little cat yells and meows of protest, if I pet her, loud meows, walking past her, meows, attempt to cuddle her, freaks out. I've had her for about 8 months now, she has periods of calm, where I can hug her, hold her, and she just purrs and is very sweet. But 80% of the time her poor little mind is scared as hell. She isn't bullied or afraid of my cats, but she lives in this anxious state and I have no idea where to start. When she was calm I did a little pressure test on parts of her body to make sure she wasn't in acute pain somewhere, but she didn't react and seems fine physically, just not mentally. I'd like the opinion of fellow cat owners before a vet tries to sell me something, or I buy into gimmicks.
Thanks, I just want to help her.

Wow, I'm on mobile and this didn't format as I expected it to at all. Sorry for this god damn wall.
Some cats are just was more skittish and fearful than others; no cat is the same. if she has been like this her entire life, then it's probably just part of her make up. Try to give her more places to hide just to make her feel more secure.
Try Feliway. Absolutely not a gimmick, clinically proven to reduce stress.
>newly adopted
Cats can take a long time to really settle into new environments if they weren't well-socialized as kittens. Like, months. Be patient.
This started up about two days ago and has become increasingly worrisome. He just sits in this one corner and snarls at the wall. Suggestions on how to assure him that he's not in danger?
>a new episode of chihuahua anon
He really has it in for this wall
Calm him with this type of setup.
SLAMMED vs LONG
which is objectively better and why
>>2453099
long has less health problems i believe and is better because i don't like seeing creatures slowly suffocate on their own stunted genetics
>>2453099
Long is better in health, function, temperament, and aesthetics. Not even a contest.
Who's better as a deterrent?

Google is your friend.
Feel free to ask questions but know that there are a lot of resources out there that could answer your question a lot faster and accurately than /an/.
Make sure to include these things in your post before asking because we can't help you if we don't have the full picture:
-tank size (include dimensions, not just volume)
-parameters (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, pH, GH, KH)
-any and all inhabitants + how long you've had them

So, it turns out they're seemingly as intelligent as primates:

Yeah, brilliant animal
>>2451358
And?
Humans do similarly idiotic things and yet we're unquestionably intelligent by the traditional metric.
The same for chimps, or any other intelligent species for that matter.
Nice cherry-picking though.
>>2451355
Are they intelligent enough to know how gross it is that their females have fake penises?
Alright /an/, I've got a puppy. 9 times out of 10, she's really awesome and relaxed and is fine with being handled, picked up, touched, etc etc. However, today, she snapped at my girlfriend and bit her in the face- it wasn't a mouthing thing, it did not sound playful, and it definitely felt aggressive. To be fair, she was tired from being out and about all day, had just met my GF's parents dog which seemed to stress her out, and she seemed to be getting frustrated. Later today, she also tried to do the same to me as I was carrying her up stairs to my apartment, but with much less force.
She's about 9 weeks old and is typically very playful and happy. Is this typical of young puppies- to have small "temper tantrums", or to try to start asserting themselves a bit more with people and dogs? I'm going to consult a professional about this as well, but I just wanted to know if this sometimes happens during a certain period of development for puppies.
What's the breed of your puppy?
>>2455385
Belgian shepherd. I know they're more aloof of people and strangers, and can develop fear aggression if not closely monitored so I'm hoping it's just something like that as she goes through her "fear period" or whatever it's called. I wonder if it's typical of the breed to try and assert themselves more when they're young as well. Either way, I'm going to be consulting a behaviorist and will be closely monitoring and correcting her until I figure it out. Is it typical of dogs with more of a herding/protection lineage to act out in this way when they're young? I wonder if she's not just trying to figure out where she lies in the pecking order and testing boundaries.
>>2455393
also, for what it's worth, both time she's tried it with me, I corrected it very quickly and then ignored her for about 15-20 minutes afterwards. It seems like when she gets over-stimulated or frustrated, she freaks out
Is there a more JUST fossil than the trilobite?
These guys were everywhere during the paleozoic but then they all disappeared without leaving any modern relative.
It really must have sucked being a trilobite in the late permian. It's probably only comparable to being a white male in the USA.

>being a white male in the USA.
Half way to your post I was thinking (hahah just like white people) and was going to post that.

such a shame. they were a pretty rad animal too.
here's to you, trilobite.
I have a dilemma.
I adopted a puppy 4 months ago (dog is 11 months old now). She's been a brilliant dog but yesterday I discovered she's aggressive towards young kids.
I walk her past a school everyday and she's fine with school aged kids, but yesterday was her first time meeting kids under the age of 5 and it didn't go well. I took her to a coworkers house who had two kids aged 4 and 1. As soon as she saw them, my dog tensed up and started growling. Every time she made eye contact with one of the kids she'd lift her lips and show her teeth. I got her out of there quickly as I was afraid the toddler would try to touch her and get bitten.
She's a border collie mix if that matters.
So the real problem is, my wife and I will very likely be having kids during her lifetime. I hadn't considered that she would be a problem since she's great with older kids.
I don't have any close friends with young kids to try to get her used to them.
Am I too optimistic thinking this can be trained out of her or would it be better to rehome her now while she's young rather than 5 years down the road when she takes a snap at my kid?
>>2455000
just give a her a good smack when she gets like that and smack your future kids when they start messing with her just give them all a good smack theres nothing a good smack cant solve
Kids are shit.
I never correct my dogs behavior if the dog growls/barks at kids.
So now I have dogs that don't like kids, like me, and I'm fine with that.
Because children are disgusting and I'd punch a baby in the face.
>>2455000
Honestly, OP, the answers you've already gotten are a pretty good indicator of what a shithole /an/ is.
Try calling some local dog trainers or even your vet and see what they say about it.
What do you guys think of George Carlins take on the environment?

He seems more naive than arrogant. What's his view on invasive species or the current rate of species loss due to climate change and human interference?
Some of his points on the indetity politics aspects are very valid though. The environmetnal movement needs to separate itself from mainstream politics and stop these stupid stereotypes for those who support it.
>>2455346
Well I think that was his whole point-human interference isn't really 'interference'. We haven't been here long enough to be out of the norm of this planet.
wtf is their problem?

Hi guys. So I found a dead bird out near my house and it's been there for awhile. It's skull just kinda popped out when I flipped it over to see what it looked like.
How would I go about cleaning off all the feathers and what might be flesh, to use as decoration? I have a thing for this kind of stuff.
There was also what appears to be a dead mouse farther out, albeit without a head. Kinda leather, rib cage sticking out. Wanting that too.
Picture somewhat related.
>>2454103
you could just put it in a place outside where you won't lose it and let some bugs and shit take care of the flesh, then wash off the rest
>>2454103
I know for mammals some people boil the corpse and clean the flesh off the bones as it falls apart, but I dunno if thats a viable option for a bird, its got more frail bones
>>2454105
An anthill would be a great option for this. You'll have to keep a constant eye on it and be patient though.

Any tips on getting a hairless cat and breeding them?
Don't breed them. If you were truly serious and cared enough to breed them properly, you wouldn't be asking on here
>>2453806
I was wanting to breed them to maincoons, not to make purebreds
