Do you guys ever heard about "beetle breeding" ?
What do you think ?
Here is a link to a channel that regularly post's videos on this ordinary subject:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9D0c5aHaK_jrBiLliNVv7w
Comfy channel though I want to start doing it myself.
Can you breed specific markings though?
The beetle you see in the picture belongs to the subfamily of Cetoniidae, the so called "flower beetles".
This beetle is called goliathus orientalis. The biggest flower beetle in the world. The markings are absolutely random, but it's possible to breed specific markings with the use of selection breeding.
Here is a picture of the longest beetle in the world, Dynastes hercules hercules, the "Hercules beetle":
For anyone interested in this topic, a brief overview about this exciting hobby:
Breeding beetles is a popular hobby, especially in Asian countries.
The common breed beetles are Cetoniidae ( flower beetles ), Lucanidae ( stag beetles ) and the most popular subfamily Dynastinae ( rhino or giant beetle ).
The biggest "producer" of beetles is Japan. They offer everything you need in normal shops, so you just have to buy it. Japan holds also the most record's of biggest beetles in the world, just a few days ago there was another record for the longest Dynastes hercules hercules ( hercules beetle ), it was measured 174mm.
In other countries ( like here where I live, in Germany ) there are only a few enthusiasts that breed beetles. So you have to produce your own material to breed them.
The material for rearing and breeding beetles is called "substrate". There are many different substrates for all the different kinds of beetles.
The most common substrate is called "Flake Soil" and it consists purely of fermented sawdust.

Something i forget to mention is that, there was no river or any water source near.
what are some good animals other than dogs or cats that have emotions and like to be with you
Hand raised/bred rats, ferrets, rabbits, certain birds, fish to an extent(many of them are almost as smart as dogs), horses, chickens, sone goats and sheep, donkeys.
>>2148262
kimd of meant small animals but thanks tho
8 year old with Stockholm Syndrome.
OP, why not a cat or dog? Most animals will not appreciate your presence. Even cats have like a 30% chance of wanting you there all the time. It's a tall order, really.

What is the best way to treat fleas in a cat?
My family cat has had them on and off since I was a little kid, so long that my family pretty much gave up after years of failure a long while ago. We've tried pills, drops. powder, flea collars, flea shampoo. He never sleps on old furniture or any infestation hotspots. We just cant figure it out what we're doing wrong.
Will I ever see him flea free in his lifetime?
Help me out, /an/
Are you religiously vacuuming your house, regularly washing bedding, clothing, and rugs with boiling water?
Are you letting him outside? If so, he is just picking up more fleas
>>2147841
How often is religiously?
We've only had carpet for the past six months or so, and since then, we haven't noticed any increases in flea numbers, or even seen them in the vaccum bag at all. I guess we could all wash our bedding more frequently if it'll help.
>>2147868
He is almost always outside. Rarely sleeps indoors unless it's raining, and is usually hiding somewhere in the backyard. He begs to go outside if we keep him in for more than a few hours.
Hey /an/
thinking about getting a dog in a couple months, but myself and gf (16/f/cali) work regular 9 to 5's.
We're trying to find something that can be chill
at home while we're at work, but still can be
active like on the weekends and stuff. Just looking
for suggestions.
Get a rescue from the pound that's pasted it's puppy stage and chilled out (like around 3-4 years old). Ask the rescue about dogs that are being fostered out in homes because you'll be able to get a better grip on the dogs personality in a home setting versus the high stress kennel environment.
If you get a dog, make plans BEFOREHAND as to what would hypothetically happen to if the relationship were to go sour. A relationship with a 16-year-old is not likely to last and too many animals end up in shelters because people can't work their shit out during divorces/breakups.
>>2147569
Me and my gf adopted an 8 y.o. American Bulldog/Staffordshire Terrier from our local shelter and it's the greatest decision we made. The dog is very relaxed in the house, was already trained, long walks aren't mandatory which is good considering our work schedules.
Also Spaniels aren't the best dogs to have in your situation, they require a lot of attention and love. I would stick with an older bully, terrier, or hound.
fucking shit shiT SHIT
i was trying to move my chicken into its enclosure, and it kept trying to get away from me. so with the wooden pole i was using to direct it, I tried to move, i accidentally hit it and now it is limping and can barely walk. fuck FUCK FUCK WHAT DO I DO

Time to put it down
Sounds like dinner
I'm such a stupid person I should kill myself she's gonna die and it's all my fault
She was perfectly healthy like a month ago 5 years old really big and had a fat tail and then I mated her and she was doing fine eggs we're developing nicely she stopped eating but I read that can happen when they're about to lay
Last night she was sitting upright in the laying box she looked fine this morning she was all limp and weak and I took her to the vet emergency clinic
Oh god /an/ what did I do she's gonna die and it's all my fault
>>2147091
chill senpai. as long as she's at the vet she'll probably be fine.
>>2147099
She looked so weak and helpless they said they have her in the incubator for emergency respiratory and she's alive for now I just can't imagine life without her
>>2147107
Its gonna be okay anon. Breathe. Even if she does pass, sounds like she's had a pretty dope little life. Not many geckos have good owners sadly. Impulse pets...
I have heard nothing but good things about owning greyhounds and am thinking of getting one. Why shouldn't I? what are the downsides?
Heart melts and you die of love
>>2146620
They're awesome. Only slight downside is that their skin is a bit on the thin-ish side and rowdy playing with other dogs can occasionally result in minor cuts. This is why when you see race dogs at the track running around in their play/exercise area, they still have the muzzles on. Not because they're bitey (they aren't), just to avoid that complication. Also related, because of the thin skin and low body fat percentage, they are more sensitive to temperature than your average doggo.
Both of these things are easily addressed anyway and I hardly consider them downsides. Just things to be aware of.
I just got this thing from Hobby Lobby for like $3.25 and it says it's guaranteed to grow but I'm terrible with plants. Does anyone have any tips on growing it? The botanical name for it is Lemaireocereus Thurberii.
On a side note, does anyone know what plants I can grow in an office with 100% fluorescent lighting?
Try water
Sweet, I hadn't thought of that one
>>2146034
It's a cactus, you need a freaking nuclear warhead to kill that thing, you can't be lazy or bad enough with plants for it to die.

Soon enough we're going to have to have 20 foot tall electric fences, moats, and stone walls between us and the animals.
>>2145603
how are these kids getting in? are the barricades meant for people that shitty?
>>2145603
>Are zoos doomed?
I hope so. Zoos are an abomination
>>2145603
that wasn't a zoo.
that's just florida. they have gators. a lot of gators.
If cats can't taste sweet things then why do they like ice cream so much? It doesn't even have to be cold, they'll still suck down melted ice cream.
It's creamy
>>2145423
Same reason why goats like beer so much.

Sorry if I lumped you in with the rest. Like I said, I've seen that anon post before, and he seems to genuinely care about his fish, and is seeking solid advice. But (before now) every time he has posted he just gets shit on.
It's not like he went out and impulse bought a shit ton of fish. He simply had a kneejerk reaction to seeing a fish about to get flushed down the toilet. Would any of us have responded differently if we were in his shoes?
Considering how he randomly ended up with several pets that he had no clue how to take care of when he saved them, he has actually done a pretty decent job. He even bought live plants for them.
>>2145091
The best advice he can get is the advice he's been getting: remove the goldfish. Some are ruder than others, sure, but it comes from a good-ish place. No one wants to see his fish suffer, ir disappear as the goldfish grow.
He could probably get a cheap 30-50 gal on Craigslist for the goldfish.
Removed flag fish as soon as I saw my badis had a nipped fin
I've decided to restock the tank at this point. I'll only keep the badis.
Any ideas for suitable fish? 6 gallon spec
