Good morning /an/

I'm getting a pupper in a month and I would like to train him properly.

What book would you recommend for that?

Shameless self bump.
>>
Get a newspaper and roll it up. Then tape it with a colorful duct tape. Use this to discipline your new pupper. Soon enough you wont even have to boop him on his snoot. Just brandish the colorful wrapped paper and it will know to stop or have its boop snooted.
>>
You heard him, the title of the book is "the business section".

Within the next ten years Id like to be selling goldfish. The target coloration: albino body with crimson head and body stripes.

Any goldfish breeders out there with genetics advice? I've been to three stores in three towns of find two goldfish with red and white. They seem rare.

Gif related, also features an aerrator hack.

A cross between your pic and this one is my goal. The deep red on light pink is somehow soothing to me.

I've looked at hundreds of carp, but I'm trying to keep the brood as strong swimmers so all the fantails and fancy goldfish are no-goes.

Breeding goldfish is like breeding chihuahuas imo.

How do you figure out what a dog likes to do for fun?

I have two rescues. One is a medium sized staffie mix and loves everything. The second is a small spaniel mix and I cannot figure out what she had fun doing. She doesn't like walks. She doesn't like toys. She doesn't like games nor training. She doesn't like cuddles.

All she does besides sleep is play with the other dog, but he really has to coax her into playing. She has a lot of energy, so I really want to find her thing.

Keep trying things until she takes to something. How long have you had them?
>>

I've had the staffie for almost 6 months now. The girlie for about 1. I'm just not sure what else there is to try with her.

She's kind of aloof, almost cat-like in her own little way.

Not long at all, but like pretty much all bugs you can display them long after they've died (these are a little harder to preserve though)

How do you preserve them?

>pic not mine
To start off let me explain that a snake has gotta eat too. I have two corns snakes and breed mice for their food. I take care of my mice. I've named them. Hold them everyday. Provide quality food, toys, fresh water and wheels for exercise. Before I bought my snakes I kept hamsters as pets, so maybe that's why. But anyway..

Today I euthanized 4 baby mice for freezing using Co2. I feel that it's the most humane besides cervical dislocation which you can't do on such small babies. I waited for about 5-7 min with them in a zip lock bag connected to another via tubing. Everything was air tight and I've done this so many times, I don't know if it's something I did wrong or what.

I took the mice out, checking for gasps or movement. I deemed it safe to go ahead and freeze them. At an impulse, I left out two for my snakes since it was feeding day. Froze the other two.

So I get everything ready. Get their feeding tank, take out my smaller corn and place him in. Pick up a limp baby mouse to place inside and notice it suddenly take a big gasp of air. I waited, thinking this over in my head as my snake discovers that his food is moving and shies away from it as the baby mouse revives itself, gasping and wriggling.

Well, my snake has never eaten live that I know of and he's a scared little shit so I take the mouse out and hold it. It was cold and struggling to survive. I look at its sibling and it's dead as a doornail so I go ahead and feed it to my snake.

Cupped my hands over the one who miraculously did not want to die this day, giving him warmth and a gentle massage. After awhile, he regained his strength and I am pretty much amazed at the little guy. I got him warm, put him in with his mother and older sisters. They groomed him up and down and as of now, after an hour, hes still alive.

So I have a few questions, /an/.

How do you think he survived? The bag was full of Co2 and I waited up to 7 min.

Will he grow to be a healthy mouse after almost dying?

(Continued, post limit)

Has this ever happened to any of you?

I intend on keeping him. (I believe it's a boy since no nipples). Recommendations on a name please. :)
>>
What?

I don't know about mice. But as far as rats go, co2 doesn't work at such a young age and you must use cervical dislocation.
You can do it on tiny pups by simply placing a chopstick over the neck and pulling the hind legs up swiftly.

It's 50/50 whether he'll be totally fine or a little, uh, retarded, but physically he should be fine.

Oh... I didn't know you could do that. I don't know with mice, their so tiny. I'd be afraid of squishing their skulls in which I don't want since the thawing process would be a mess but I guess next time I should maybe think on doing this.

I suppose the main purpose for parasites is to keep populations manageable, nature didn't always have responsible humans around to control the population of animals that could have gotten too big for their limited space

More of a balance thing, without something to "cull the herd" populations would likely spike into extreme highs and lows rather than keep at a steady medium

There's gotta be SOMETHING that eats these things too, don't monkeys pick fleas and ticks off other monkeys and eat them?
>>
Some animals eat them.
>>
>>2178109>>2178109
Things don't evolve to full some pre-determined roll, they evolve to exploit a resource that was previously unfilled or evolve to be better than the organism that currently fills that roll. And to answer your other question, populations of animals and plants are kept in check by both predators and parasites. We see the evidence that they're necessary because they've coexisted alongside us forever. If they were removed completely, a link in the food chain would be removed as well.

In this thread we discuss superior dog breeds.
No pit bull entries, they are the niggers of the animal world.
I'll start with the Australian cattle dog (Blue Heeler)
Highly intelligent, loyal, protective and fit.
MUST be given work to do or can become depressed.
Average life span of 15 years, with most common medical issue being deafness.
Short to medium hair that requires not a lot of maintenance.
Great family dog, patient with children and always willing to play, extremely loyal to the their one chosen owner til the day they die.
I'll never own another breed of dog.

What work do you give your cattle dogs to do?
>>
>>2178117
I live on a 150 acre piece of land with cattle and sheep occupying most of the space.
When it's time to round up the animals to place them in another paddock the dogs begin the movement and then eventually stays out on the flanks of the herd.
That and general exercise (being allowed freely to roam over the farm)

I love the look and personalities of Heelers and Border Collies but I'm in Canberra and there's no space for them to do anything. I run fuck loads but that wasn't enough for my old StaffyxKelpie so it'd be even worse for them.

I know that but it's more of just curiosity at this point, it looks something out of a Dr. Seuss book.
