Unnecessary and not particularly helpful. Professional steam cleaning is great but not necessary either.

OP, the first step is buying something called an IGR. It isn't a pesticide. It prevents the flea eggs and larvae in your carpets, couch, etc. from continuing their life cycle. Vacuum the shit out of your whole house, wash linens, wash couch cushion covers if possible, anything the animal rests on. If you can't wash them, vacuum thoroughly with an attachment. Then spray down with the IGR. Spray carpets with IGR too. Treat your pet. Finopril won't hurt it. Baths won't cut it. If you have a yard, and the animal in question is a dog, you can use pyrethrin to treat the yard. Don't use it if you have a cat as they're very sensitive to it. Try to eliminate shady areas in the yard as well.

I assume you're the type of people too inbred and ignorant to properly microchip your dog, but if you have, put a call out to every vet in the state that your dog has been stolen and give them your information. If your dog is ever scanned at a vet, they can hold it and call you.

Of course, it's also possible the people who took your dog are people who saw a free-running dog and thought "I'd better pick this guy up and find his owner". Call shelters

if you're getting kittens, two are better than one. they need to be at least 8 weeks, closer to 12 is better.

-feed wet food only. it'll help cut down on health issues later in life.
-get a cat tree, they need a high vantage point and something to scratch.
-clean the litterbox daily, full clean weekly
-handle the cat frequently to make them easier to pick up and at the vet. don't set them down until they stop squirming
-you can clicker train your cat
-handle and mess with their paws to train them to get used to it so you can trim their nails
-don't declaw
-keep them indoors unless you harness train them
